I'm thinking about a house now." they probably were terrified that some other con, like that 'Michael,' who's smarter (although that's a low bar) and a better grifter than Kyle, would talk him into some 'deal' and they'd be on the hook for it. So, they figured they'd better hurry down before he signs something he can't get out of .
