“It is being enabled by the US government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes.”

I think it’s sort of silly to be expecting a band to provide the most reasonable and nuanced political commentary in general to be honest, that’s why we have politicians and the more boring activists

Honestly I see them more as people who care deeply about a couple of issues and incorporate them into their brand than I see them as activists pushing for serious change. I suspect it’s the same for many of their fans, their music sounds good and the guys are fun

I have let this topic simmer on the back burner of my mind this week. Yes, they have every right to call out Israel and they shouldn't be blacklisted/cancelled for it. Their comment "kill your local MP" is ignorant to put it mildly, considering 2 British MPs have been murdered. You expect it from a 14-year-old male edgelord on the Internet to spew that kind of crap, but these dudes are in their 20s and 30s, grow the fuck up. They have apparently apologized to the Cox and Arness familes; well the Cox family said it was a half apology. Kneecap said “We also reject any suggestion that we would seek to incite violence against any MP or individual. Ever." Why say it in the first place? If you want to portay yourselves as allies in any cause, you need to be mindful of what you say.

Rap as a genre lost me in the early 90s. I haven't seen the film or know much else about Kneecap, other than they are the agitators of the moment. I don't get where they are coming from. The eldest was what, 8 years old when the Irish Peace Accords were signed? They come across as IRA cosplayers wishing it was still the 1970s. Maybe they can do their own interpretation of The Poni-Tails "Born Too Late-2B a Provo." Going to suck on my Werther's and listen to Kool Moe Dee.

I get that it was apparently once the dead tory, kill your local MP was years ago. But isn't that how the internet and cancel culture works? Where one message from years ago comes back to bite.

I mean it was 2023, they were all adults. This isn't the same as something someone said when they were teenagers in a different social/political environment.

Also they seem like the types to wish cancellation on others for wrong speak and I have no sympathy for those who are cancelled who would gleefully cancel others in similar circumstances

It's also possible not to support the prevailing narrative that anti-genocide protesters are terrorists.
