A GP referral and then assessment and diagnosis by psychiatrist. A psychiatrist needs to diagnose an adult and can prescribe medication, a psychologist can not diagnose adults or prescribe medication (they can diagnose children but still not prescribe).Wow, this all sounds like me… so informative! What’s the first step to get a diagnosis? GP referral to a specialist? Xx

also maybe join an ADHD women Facebook group to find out more and connect with others, and look at resources online. ABC iview has a great video up with Em Rusciano speaking to the press club about her own experience with late diagnosis I’d recommend.
I’m sure it’s Googleable, but they did a great ADHD live blog that day where they answered a heap of questions too.also maybe join an ADHD women Facebook group to find out more and connect with others, and look at resources online. Came to say the same. She’s filled it with chocolates because it’s easier and hasn’t put in any real effort. She also said the activities included going to the park or for a swim (no doubt at the neighbours) because they’re achievable. Those activities are basic activities for kids, they shouldn’t have to wait for an advent countdown to go to the park! She goes out and gets coffee and a treat every day, but now will only do it the day it pops up in the calendar, ok Jessi. tit parenting! Why coffee? Wouldn’t you write ‘milkshake’ or ‘hot chocolate’ or whatever the kids drink?
this kind of just shows that she’s thinking about what she wants to do with these tasks, not from the perspective of the child reading it. View attachment 1771490
Perhaps it varies by state. Which is good though, opens up more options if you can be diagnosed by a psychologist in your state. Although perhaps a more expensive route if hoping for medication to assist in managing symptoms as you’d then have to pay to see the psychiatrist too. Jessi - are you taking note?Psychologists can diagnose adults

Yeah that was really sad. Christmas is meant to be special, not basic everyday things like the park and a swim may as well had one that said "brush teeth"Came to say the same. Hi, just on psychologists- they can diagnose ADHD if it’s in conjunction with Autism assessment, as the 2 disorders crossover so much. But i had to also see a psychiatrist (who also diagnosed me with ADHD) to get access to prescription meds for ADHDA GP referral and then assessment and diagnosis by psychiatrist. A psychiatrist needs to diagnose an adult and can prescribe medication, a psychologist can not diagnose adults or prescribe medication (they can diagnose children but still not prescribe).

Good on you! It’s a hard process and for those of us with ADHD or suspected ADHD, it involves executive function, which none of us with ADHD have - making & attending multiple appointments (on-time), filling in assessments, potentially trying to find school reports (to show evidence ADHD was present as a child) & waiting! Lots of waiting & patience required. None of this is easy and you will want to give up multiple times (ADHD related task avoidance is real!). But if you can stick with it, it’s honestly worthwhile! Best of luckI’m a long time lurker “hi!” but I just wanted to say thank you for sharing about the ADHD. I’ve been seeing a psychologist again for anxiety, and she recently brought up the possibility of having ADHD. I’ve gone to my gp for a referral to the psychiatrist but I’ve been sitting on it. Mainly because I looked up the clinic where I was referred to and there were reviews saying it was hard to get through and then it became a too daunting task so I’ve been avoiding it.
But you may have motivated me to get it done as all I want for myself is to feel like a somewhat effective human as I currently do not feel like that.

The fact they even started painting the fence when they still had a pile of albums waiting to go out was shocking to me.So bleeping busy, “working, working all week”… yet the fence painting still isn’t finished and your albums still aren’t all out. It’s Thursday. What the duck else have you been doing??
If you’re going to be that tit, don’t post it up for your customers to see?!?The fact they even started painting the fence when they still had a pile of albums waiting to go out was shocking to me.
