Oh look a free stay at the Montonotte in Cork city.🙄🙄Because why would so much content be showing their suite and the jacks, etc. It’s not just Jess but these influencers are really boiling my piss lately accepting loads of freebies and influencing us normal Joes to pay up. Well breaking news but it influences me not to buy anything from these companies when I see their sales pitches!!!😂😂

"Nice to do something different" she says! Something different would be staying at home for once! I would love to borrow an Instagrammers phone to book a hotel for myself and see how different the experience would be compared to booking it for myself!

I agree it’s so sickening to see. The price of the Monetenotte is eye-watering and that’s for a hotel room never mind a suite and hard enough to get booked in at the moment as there’s such a post Covid surge. Not if you’re an instahun though and willing to do a few stories and posts in exchange for the red carpet being rolled out and all expenses paid. I don’t think it’s good marketing, it just pisses the masses of ordinary customers off and makes Jess look like a head

I've started specifically messaging hotels and businesses that I have previously given money to that giving influencers freebies puts me off and I won't be giving them any further money in future. If no one speaks up, they'll keep doing this tax deductible marketing and think it's highly effective for getting Joe Soap in the door.

It's time to actually give some verbal backlash against influencers or nothing will change.

Do you mind telling us the context of the messaging to the hotels because I’d definitely start doing this too. I really want to start pulling them up on this

Yup! I specifically tell them that I'm a previous guest/customer and very disappointed and annoyed to see influencers getting a freebie. I make the point that I stayed for X occasion, I work hard for my money and I remember my stay. The influencer in question will be staying in another hotel in a few weeks and won't remember their stay, but I'll remember that they were given it and specifically won't stay there again on the back of it. And that this is poor marketing.

I talked about this with my friend group recently and some of them have started doing it too. I'm so sick of handing over hundreds of euro - literally hours of my life and labour to stay in a very expensive hotel, when they're experiencing a huge demand for bookings. I'm pissed off with Irish hospitality for the price gouging after Covid tbh

Well done! I think leaving publicly viewable Google reviews is a good idea too, it's there for the world to see and these places absolutely HATE anything negative being written. I can understand if it's over something unavoidable for e.g. "it rained the whole time so we were stuck inside and didn't get to enjoy the gardens" or what not, but gifting of freebies to these Instahuns now that's a different matter. Especially the likes of Jess who was brought up staying in five star hotels and is now married to a wealthy retired rugby player, now businessman.
