Someone made a good point but can’t remember where I saw it. Jason says he was diagnosed with what was then called Asperger’s syndrome at the age of three in 1988 but it wasn’t a diagnosis that was available to clinicians as the term wasn’t used until 1994?

WOW! This is quite the impressive coincidence!:

"Arday claims, for instance, that when the kids who beat him up at the bus stop were arrested, he told the judge that they shouldn’t go to prison. Then, years later, when he took a brief teaching job at an unnamed London university, two of the muggers turned out to be his students. They’d been so moved by his act of mercy that they’d turned their lives around, and now they were coaching other at-risk youths. “Both of them gave me a huge hug, which I returned,” he writes. One asked Arday to be the godfather of his child."

[from The Atlantic article]
But did everybody clap?

Meh, with anyone else I'd accept that they're using a shorthand or something.

Regardless of the Asperger’s timeline. No professional would have told Arday’s parents he had Asperger’s when he was non verbal, had GDD and was smearing faeces on the walls.

One of the big differences between High Functioning Autism (HFA) and Asperger's is that with the former there is no language acquisition delay. Another big difference is that those who are diagnosed with HFA often have low to average intelligence while those with the latter have average to high intelligence. (The two terms were folded into a wider diagnosis of autism in the DSM V which is why they are no longer used in diagnoses.)

And it's pretty well accepted that if a non-verbal child does not speak by the age of eight, it is medically improbable that they ever will speak.

(Sorry to be prickly about this but I have autism, was diagnosed with Asperger's at the Autism Research Centre at Cambridge University and get tired of the term HFA being used to describe anyone on the spectrum who functions reasonably well.)

The vibes of him put me, and obviously others, in mind of the old tin rinser hence I'm here. I know there's another one around (some failed fanfic writer, I believe) but their rantings are far too much for me and my prescription drugged mind without causing conniptions and rage.
"The old tin rinser" has finished me off 😂.

None of them can just tell one good lie for the plot then leave it be. It always has to be them being a homeless, autistic, sex worker, victim of abuse of all varieties on multiple occasions, sufferer of several heart attacks, tumours, strokes, multiple chronic illnesses, broken bones, neurological disorders, robbed of opportunities despite being uniquely and exceptionally gifted, subject to relentless and unparalleled abuse and/or applause, victims of implausible and unverifiable gunmen and threats and kidnapping and murder plots and able to elevenerife the most extraordinary claims with a ready list of personal qualities or protected characteristics that elevate them above criticism.

At this point it doesn't bother me so much that demented, pathological, narcissistic cluster-B, nest-feathering crackpots exist, it's how keen every dumb fucker on earth is to believe and celebrate them. Willfully bleeping stupid.

Yeah some people have done amazing things, or overcome real adversity. The big give away with these bean-rinsing types is the volume of incidents, and the escalation of amazing feats. They always have to jump the shark, they can’t help themselves.
Another tell is a curious similarity between their tall tales and the background of someone close to them and/or the latest Netflix series/reddit trend. Fuge states all round, former brothel employees and sex workers!

Jack Monroe is a classic example of this. Always racking up the drama to a ridiculous degree. And it’s so transparent.
It tends to be particularly bad in spoken interviews too when I think they get carried away - Arday is the same, some of his more outlandish claims seem to have come from interviews and podcasts. (His “years” with Crystal Palace for example - and the Birkbeck masters). But the recordings survive of course.

Unfortunately for JA this blew up in silly season for the media - Parliament in recess and summer holiday frivolity.

The story has both fascinated & infuriated me although I've been getting increasing repulsed by the grey long fluff on his chin. It looks like an ancient schnauzer needing a groom. However I've now discovered something I didn't know before.

It's a soul patch.

It's the calling the police on a journalist for me...when apparently allegedy worse stuff happened to him that he didn't report. From the information I've seen/heard this week it sounds like he is a pathological liar whose 'achievements' were useful PR for Cambridge, etc. He's stolen a space from a person who could be a wonderful academic (of any race and background). He's committed fraud but I imagine he'll be allowed to hide and resign and let time make us forget, rather than be charged for lies and wasting police time. And I think he's probably such a fantacist that he won't understand what he's actually done wrong.
I don't think what he's done meets the legal definition of fraud as a crime, tbh.

Wasting police time, though. Although I can't believe they didn't just tell him to jog on to begin with.

Then again, given they never spoke to the journalist in question, nor apparently anyone who might have told him what was going on, I sort of wonder if they just sat on it for a bit before marking it NFA.

I know the term Asperger's syndrome had fallen out of favour with a lot of professionals, about ten years ago and had been replaced by ASD to acknowledge that autism is a spectrum.

One of my colleagues rejects the term because of Asperger's link with Nazism, although I know some people still use it.

Every time I see the book title 'Great and Unfortunate Things' I think of the title of Matthew Perry's book 'Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing' and wonder if this guy's has ever had an original idea in his life

the ‘prophecy’ about great and terrible things reminded me of Harry Potter in diagon alley buying his wand ”great things—terrible, yes, but great” or maybe A Series of Unfortunates Events. Not exactly highbrow but also for teenagers who were literate 🤷‍♀️

The more they get away with the more they carry on lying.

Social media makes it even worse as they get rewarded and boosted for more engagement the more extreme their claims are. Instagram stories expire or they can delete tweets but the screen shots remain on tattle. And that's the reason they hate this site, nothing to do with whatever BS they make up such as Caroline Hirons saying the whole site is about death threats despite there has never been one death threat.

Ofcom don't even investigate people like her going on Lorraine to tell lies like that and she takes to her social media to wish death on people. Someone like her is too stupid to even understand how hypocritical she is.

I know it's totally petty and also not the point ... but his entire appearance bugs the he'll out of me 😆

His dreds/braids are way too long, and somehow just look "rubbish" ... his bulbous face is weird and shiny ... if he does wear eye makeup he does it badly... and if he doesn't, he should to cover it up ...

He looks like Dave Lister, as viewed through the hateful eyes of Arnold Rimmer.

Also if he was supposedly non verbal for so many childhood years surely 1) his vocal chords and speech mechanisms in his throat and mouth wouldn't be up to much at a later point because not used, and 2) if this went on so long would he have even been in a mainstream school?

Yet also while being in comas and saving the world?

We need to hear from his schoolteachers.

Yes, why is his face soooo shiny?! Is he wearing one of those beauty 'glass skin' masks all day?!

Hes constantly sweating from fear, the panic of being caught out.

I also wondered about mainstream schools and his GCSEs; im the same age and i remember certain children being put in for exams or not being put forward as they knew they wouldn't pass - we were at a Forces school so we weren't included in the tables for best performing schools AFAIAA - the kids were excluded (my friend was one of them, for....French i wanna say?) to remove the pressure so they could concentrate on their other exams and pass the 'Key Three'. Anyway, knowing this, I struggle to believe that someone who read at the level of an under 3 year old was at mainstream secondary school AND being put forward for GCSE exams.

The non verbal thing is a lie. I can guarantee it. Or wildly exaggerated. You don't go from non verbal to conversational at 11. They would've written studies on him.
