Yep, surely councils are only bothered if you’re going to do something structural like knock down a wall (you’d definitely need permission for that) - I can’t see how they’d be bothered about a different colour paint.

I expect he was playing to his audience here.

You Tube videos of JA's lies are being set to private as the cat's out of the bag. This was in one of them and the claim JA made here was:

All of his schooling in a special needs school, alongside pupils with severe learning difficulties and physical disabilities, and no formal schooling in a mainstream school at any point.

But it was all mainstream in his book? Which is it?

PIp wasn't introduced until the mid 2010s, so it would have still been DLA, although I can't remember if that would have been reassessed at 16 or 18 or after a time interval.

JA does mention having an assistant/TA, so he would have had a Statement of Special Educational Needs (now EHCP) to get extra help.

To me this makes his wide eyed surprise at the availability of DSA and assessment for dyslexia (iirc to get funding a diagnosis has to be under 3 years old so there would be a reassessment). a little confusing. Especially as the amazing Sandro was there to mentor him. I really would have thought Sandro would have said something.

Although what is amusing me is the claim that he council wouldn't let him paint his bedroom walls in a colour he liked. He could have painted his bedroom with a montage of fluffy kittens or a life-size representation of Morrissey from The Smiths in his declining years, and the council wouldn't give a duck.
Well I bet his statemented brother had a TA. And I bet they weren’t sat with him at the back of the exam hall waiting for him to speak his answered wher everyone could hear.

I’ve seen a lot of bleeping council houses and they were all decorated in a range of ways identical to your non-council houses.
I think he got mixed up with landlords. They guys won’t let you so much as stick up a poster thesedays.

*He’s claimed both all special needs schools and all mainstream schools in multiple other places, but in the book he splits the difference and claims special needs with one day a week in mainstream until seven.

Also as a completely throwaway comment, perpetuating the Jack Monroe-esque egregious myth re: the danger Jack/Giff’s children would be “taken away”.

One thing I’ve been thinking about is the GDD diagnosis. This bothers me more than the autism one (in part because I can imagine him recovering an ASD diagnosis but not in the way or time he described). This isn’t just something people throw out when a kid is a bit behind. It’s for kids with real issues: Down syndrome, microcephaly, genetic issues etc. It’s a quantifiable thing - you have to be seen to be really on a slower developmental journey.

in fact, it’s so unlikely that I’m doubting myself that I’ve read it.

They are not. They don't care, as long as the house/garden is kept in reasonable condition and you do minor repairs they don't give a duck. And even if they did care it isn't like they come round to do bedroom inspections.

The only person who had GDD diagnosis I’ve seen anything of is Trewley Precious. And to be fair I reckon she could write a thesis of a similar quality as Arday’s.

This is a ridiculous interview on the today programme with Alexandra Pringle a former publisher at Bloomsbury, apparently we shouldn't expect memoirs to be true but we should expect biographies to be true. So you can just make up whatever lies you want about yourself and publish it.

Also we should have had drastically lower expectations for Arday to be truthful because was autistic, I have never before heard autistic=fantasist

My sister is currently awaiting her autism diagnosis long awaited confirmation (she's late 30s and I've known since we were kids). Now she's ridiculously honest and has been pulled up about it before many times because she's not dressed up facts in the flouncy ways her bosses have expected.

I'd love to see her take on autism = fantasist. Fairly sure she'd give me short shrift and then explain, in long details, how very wrong I am.

Funnily enough, anytime JA got questioned, it was batted back with his autism statement - which is unverified - and that's that. For someone whose own brother has it, very little seemed to have got through to him about the way it works.

Thanks all for the info about the council houses and the book extract! I have family and friends in council houses, but I think maybe most of them did 'right to buy'. Not exactly something that was a topic of conversation when I was a kid lol, but I think I would have assumed it would be similar to a landlord situation.

Also, this whole saga has made me realise - I think I might have got into uni as a DEI, before it was a 'thing'. Would've been nice to have had anywhere near the same level of support as Arday... 😆

Yep, telling the truth when most people would fudge or tell a little white lie is usual. The suggestion by Alexandra Pringle that genuinely autistic people are actually less truthful is pretty offensive, TBH. We tend to go hard on fairness and justice as well, which makes all the wrong 'uns blaming their bad behaviour on 'autism' doubly offensive.

Personally, I think Arday is as 'autistic' as Gregggggg, just with different reasons behind it. He's like an extreme example of Middle Child Syndrome.

The whole shove them into a special school and ignore them,is a crock too. They are made to help kids advance better than mainstream, as evidenced himself leaving without being able to read or write and not that long verbal. 🤨

The brothers seem to have good careers of their own. I can understand wanting to protect that, especially if they have their own families as well.

JA is so similar to Jack Monroe. I can imagine her family having given up on trying to get her on better speaking terms with the truth, and just letting her get on with it.
Plus in Jack Monroe's case it must be hard to know how to deal with somebody who keeps threatening to unalive themselves. You must be walking on eggshells so much of the time. Scared to upset them.
It's so manipulative.

“My view is that the essence of the book is the essence of the book. I haven’t read it, but I know people who have that have found it incredibly moving and very inspiring.”

Wow. Profound. The essence of the book is the essence of the book. I can see how Pringle was a luminary in the publishing world 😂

So, if we are to believe this, makes you wonder how he got through his viva and all those intense academic interviews. Or any face to face interaction with students. View attachment 4103363Did they just ask him a load of questions and then let him come back ‘about two days later’ to answer them, once he’d understood what it was they were saying (by which time he’d lost the context)?View attachment 4103373
*Tho I fully believe that at least 90% of the time (plus 20%, to plagiarise some of his invented research data that added up to errr…110%) he had no bleeping clue what was going on/was incapable of doing what his job required.
This sorry saga isn't making me think any more kindly of the field of sociology, which is highly susceptible to bull, nonsense and the bleeding obvious being dressed up in impenetrable verbiage. Nobody wants to put their hand up and question wtf it means in case they seem stupid. Also Arday's approach of "autoethnography" is a narc's dream: just talk about yourself all the time and call it research! If Guest Monroe had figured that out she could have been a professor by now, not just a Dr Dr.
