It should be a proper independent review, really, conducted by external experts, if they really want to get to the bottom of what went wrong. But I’m not sure they do TBH. They’ll want to whitewash it, label Arday as a one-off error, and move swiftly on.
I agree. I would say there are a lot of squeaky bums there now. And rightly so. Also it would make me question the integrity of those involved in appointments in general, not just in his case.

And if I was a student or a parent of a student who paid presumably high fees, I'd be raging to discover what had gone on. That this person was not actually suitable or sufficiently qualified to hold the position that he did.

People can be lefties or right wing in their outlook without being part of the dominant conversation that is currently taking place.

I don’t understand how we got to this point where you choose your team and then you personally are responsible for explaining any and all behaviour of the rest of that team.

Whats worse is the “gotcha” when someone finds a contradiction or some hypocrisy in the opposing team which then is used as evidence the entire philosophy is wrong.

It is everywhere.
Yeh it's worsened by things like X where there's no room for nuance is tiny short messages

My political views are very dependent on the particular issue on hand.
I’ve been called far left, far right and everything else in between, I gave up giving a duck what others think . I will not be forced to compromise on my beliefs just because some wanker thinks throwing a label at me is an insult.

I am always happy to discuss my views and change them if new evidence or information comes my way either via rational debate or a decent well informed article.
It’s just harder to fine those these days.
I’m exactly the same. I don’t feel compelled to put a label on it.

What I have observed, and I’m sure lots of us have observed, is people like you who say they are left leaning, that dare to question anything that aligns to far left ideology, MUST be far right, masquerading as a leftist.
The far left have wrestled left wing politics away from those who identify as left leaning, left of the middle, and demonised those people, simply for asking questions. Questioning authority is how it should be. There is nothing controversial about it. They are creating an ‘us and them’ landscape that is just not conducive to living in a civilised society.
This.
Very mainstream beliefs (for example, that people who have been through male puberty shouldn't play on women's sports teams or that people should be able to show they are qualified for the job they hold) are now tantamount to saying you're a Nazi who wants to murder every trans or black person or whatever, based on the social media responses from the terminally online bubble. So then society fractures further and the people at the centre of the issue get ducked over even more.

I was watching a video earlier with Camilla Tominey and Jacob Rees Mogg, which came out last week, where she told an anecdote about his time at Roehampton, I think, where he marked a students work at 70%, and this student approached him to say she was told she was averaging 75%, and his response was to say that was because of her white privilege. It’s little stories like this, that really make me realise that this guy was quite unpleasant. I feel if he’s doing that to students looking up to him, then he was misusing his power to undermine them and dare I say effectively to admonish white students.

The terminally online 'left' don't know the first thing about what left or right even means, they know duck all about political history and I sometimes wonder if they even understand the basics of democracy. They just think 'left' = nice, permissive (to people they deem deserving) and 'right' - the bad guys.

I'm left wing in the actual traditional meaning of the words, but structural class analysis is anathema to these people.

Yes. The same people fretting about extremism on the right, are creating more extremism, by shutting people and conversations down, acting with total intolerance whilst demanding tolerance. Inciting hatred themselves whist calling the police to insist they are a victim of a hate crime. The real threat to our society are far left extremists, and it has been thus for quite some time.

Yes, I had read about the way he treated that student. Absolutely disgraceful. And who knows if he treated others the same, for daring to even approach him politely about a grade. Shameful carryon. Not something that the university should stand over, either. Not for a millisecond.

The level of plagiarism, oops sorry, ‘inadvertently omitted overlap’ in this one of the two articles the journals allowed him to ‘amend’ in 2023 in light of Cambridge being contacted about the plagiarism is 😮 The entire article is only 19 1/2 pages long,

He had some brass balls on him tho 😮 2024: Injustice on the route to a full professorship/Chair. Well, indeed.

She’s lucky she was at Roehampton just down the road from his house. I doubt his students had much opportunity to approach him about their grades or anything else in most of the other institutions he ‘worked’ at. Eg: while a full-time full professor (teaching and research, he’s at pains to clarify) at Glasgow he rocked up in the morning straight off a flight for three days a week and had already ducked off again by mid-afternoon, early enough to get to the airport, through security etc etc etc and get on a 4pm flight back to London.

The problem is not necessarily the media bur the 24/7 online presence. Yes the media can be hard-core and intrusive into people's lives, but now people live most of their waking hours on sm and forums, the ye Olde street gossips, whereby a few people gathered and talked about people has exploded to 1000's of people talking about the same subject and voicing opinions ( both negatively and positively) on people, their lifestyles and their narratives. The problem isn't necessarily that people are being hounded more so that there is no escape when a negative or gossip is released. Years ago a famous person became subject of local gossip you heard the odd comment, rumor or puff piece in the paper. However it could be relatively ignored. Now it's all over the news 24/7 everything you go on social media there is 100s of variations of the same story with extra comments. There is literally no escape, unless you go off grid.

There's no bleeping way. I fly Manchester to Belfast Int. regularly, a shorter flight than London to Glasgow, but even then the times wouldn't really add up.

So you get up at 3am. Leave the house when, half 3? Travel to the airport, so get there when, maybe 4am (generous estimates here). Flight is presumably then around 6am. An hour and 20-30 minutes in the air, so we're at 7.30am and he's still on the plane. Then the plane does what it does (the last flight I got was taxiing from the runway to the terminal for 15 minutes then it took a bus ten minutes to get me to the actual door), then you have to get out of the airport and to work, it's rush hour by this point, so even if you're only going a few miles that takes time. You'd be lucky to get to work for 9. But you need to be back at the airport for 2pm if you're flying at 4pm.

Does anybody who believes this tit actually inhabit the real world?

Everyone feels that being terminally online and expressing their opinion without criticism is a human right and any impingement on that from the opinions or mere existence of other people is intolerable harassment.

Everyone on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram could be talking about me but I wouldn't know because I'm not on social media seeking out commentary about me. People seem to forget that participation isn't mandatory. Same with Dr Dr Jack Monroe and Dr Jess Taylor. Anything other than them being able to say and do whatever they like without any criticism or pushback is harassment/stalking.

It is...but someone said the auto increase had been turned off...clearly not!
I thought it must have been because it was so close to target. For a moment, I had a smidge of respect for Sir Patrick Vernon but this is gross.

And the hashtags #JasonArday #RestInPower #TrafalgarSquare #StandUpToRacism #BlackAcademics #Solidarity #BlackLivesMatter 🙄🙄

I really don’t get why any black academics are in his corner. Arday is just a racist’s dream.

I’m with this clinical psychologist

And on the point where some people on the left are calling for state control over the media, are they trying to turn us into China? I find the endless shrieking for more censorship and control absolutely chilling. It doesn’t seem to have occurred to thickos like Zack Polanski that you may not always have a government you approve of.

I believe that Arday lied so much, for so long, about so many things that he both believed his lies and became incapable of telling - or recognising - the truth.
Excellent post @Wu Tien - I nodded my head in agreement with every single word. Just quoting one line that sums up exactly what I have been thinking about him.

Surrounded by enablers, all his life, he obviously felt that he could say and do as he pleased. And for all his much touted resilience and all the things he claimed to have overcome, when the lies and deceptions caught up with him, there was nothing there. Just a fraud.

And while his death is undoubtedly a loss for his family, it's a shame to see how some are trying to sweep things under the rug and pretend that this was caused by well, pretty much everyone and anyone. Apart from himself and those who enabled him.
