You have put it far better than I did. That is exactly what I meant. The way I interpret the "it's OK to be not OK" is there should be no stigma to MH conditions. It is OK to be ill, OK to speak about MH conditions, and OK to not be ashamed of having a MH illness. However it is not saying that it is OK to just suffer, lie in bed and spiral into a deep depression. it is implying that you should get help and not be embarrassed. My 2 penneth would be that no, it isn't ok for people with a clinical illness to start showing signs that they are becoming more poorly and are struggling. It shouldn't be just a shoulder shrug and accepted as fine to be that way.
It is ok to to accept that these things are happening because you're unwell, and not to beat yourself up with guilt, harsh self criticism etc, as that can make things worse and also lead to very dark places.
But the message should be, that it's ok to feel what you are feeling, but let's try and see what will fix it?
Just what I think anyway
Does anyone know, are these her words? Has she written them before or something? They're very familiar to me, down to the banana bread comment. Can't think where I've read it though
Her interpretation of the slogan is to suggestion that the way to deal with poor MH is allowing yourself to stay in bed, not wash and eat crap and that is just dangerous.
