Like promethazine is an antihistamine that is prescribed to help with sleep (does fuck all for me aside from give me kicky sleep legs!)
Quoting myself like a ninny to correct the above!

Yep. No offense to Jack but when it comes to psychotropics, she's a fucking lightweight. At least one of the canal is on a heavier regimen. Ahem.
lol yes! Ditto - I feel seen, thank you thank you. It’s mega toxic to compare meds as we all take what we take to help whatever we need help with - there’s no olympics to be won here. It’s just another thing for her to weaponise, as we’ve seen her do loads of times i.e the unpackaged tupperware of tramadol or wtf they were? Take your dodgy pills and fuck off m8 LJC (I say dodgy only because the way she shared them made it look like they weren’t exactly prescribed, which again I think was an entirely intentional teehee nudge nudge to her followers ‘in the know’ to which I again reply FUCK OFF JACK NOBODY CARES)

I have been idly wondering about the social media age and the types of people who are attracted to self-promotion for the sake of social media fame. And what the impacts on society will be (are already!) of having what’s basically random people’s narcissistic tendencies shoved in our faces and essentially promoted all the time. I don’t like it.
omg yes! The timing of this is v apt as I’ve been thinking a lot about how narcissism has been passed down, and in some cases either watered down or somehow intervened, from wartime generations. I see it so much with those close to me where you have, to put it bluntly, a v narcissistic/nasty/unfeeling grandmother or great-grandmother who is no doubt heavily traumatised by whatever she had to live through but existed in a time where we could barely recognise the impact of PTSD on front-line soldiers, let alone their wives, mothers and children carrying the burden of it all in the shadows. Add to that an equally traumatised and emotionally incompetent husband - there’s a lot of room for abuse and neglect of the needs of the children who then grow up mirroring the same behaviours.

Also the adage of “a son is a son until he meets a wife, a daughter is daughter you have for life” - we’re still in the throws of a generation of mothers and grandmothers who have been emotionally and coercively controlled by their mothers to serve their needs only, whilst the fathers are raised to be emotionally constipated and coddled so have no ability to intervene and protect their kids from the continuing cycle of coercive and controlling behaviour and so it goes on and on (of course it works the same the other way too, with the cycle of abuse from men feeling v difficult to escape from as it can feel so entrenched in some family systems).

I say all of this with so much love and compassion for those impacted by these kind of family systems - I very much was, and I’m not trying to assign blame. My grandparents are honestly so emotionally inept but when you trace it all back it makes so much sense - my nan’s mum made it no secret how much she hated my Nan, but it was still nan above and beyond all the other siblings who cared for her at the end. The abuse she suffered had a devastating impact on her ability to parent her own kids, especially my mum who suffered the double whammy of an extremely abusive father, which then impacted her ability to parent me.

I was eventually handed over to the care of my grandparents which must have done a real number on my mum - I’m sure I’m not the only Frau here who has experienced social services intervention and ‘keeping it in the family’ without the support that is needed to properly deal with the deep rooted problems at hand.

Thankfully my Nan had remarried a couple of times since having my mum so my ‘grandad’ isn’t my biological grandad and it was he and his family who were finally able to lift my Nan out poverty and give her some stability with a deposit on a house for her and my grandad to live and eventually raise me in - it’s a huge tragedy and an irreversible consequence of the intergenerational trauma experienced by all the women in my family that nobody was able to help my mum benefit from all of this in the ways that I have.

I know this is a lot but I’m in a place where I really need to talk about my mum and have everything she experienced properly seen and acknowledged because nobody was able to do that for her when she was alive and I can’t help but feel that happens so often to women like y mum. They’re the real ‘working class women’ society can’t help but either fetishise or ignore because their stories are either too hard or inconvenient for us to look at. Jack will never, ever, ever get it which is why - owning my truth for all the other site onlookers - I find her so fucking triggering

My story of “I didn’t realise it was illegal until I was a grown up” was that every week a man would pull up and in his boot he’d have loads of VHS tapes with badly photocopied covers and we’d “rent” them for a couple of quid 🤣

she really doesn’t have actual pov stories does she. She’d have been better off actually talking to wc people from the late 1900s instead of Dickensian London , hearing about their shared experiences (as we’ve all just done) and crafted her fake narrative from that. But that would’ve taken effort and..well.. SHAN’T
I'm embarrassed to reveal I am today years old when I realise that our hatdhback video guy, who went around our estate, was also doing it on the side.

See Jack, I am nowadays to all intents and purposes middle class. My kids have a middle class upbringing. However my childhood was most definitely not middle class. No range rovers or ballet lessons or karate lessons or indeed any lessons outside school. As @MancBee expressed so well earlier, I was raised in an environment where people looked out for each other, but not in an in your face way. A 'have your tea here tonight', etc. I frankly survived off other people's generosity. Even if it was being given a stack of old Beanos to read, or a country walk with that family.

I sometimes, when I'm morose (now)) feel I'm cosplaying my own life because it's so very far removed from my own formative years experience and I don't feel I'm equipped with the skills to know how to live it.

Kind of the opposite of Jackie.

(I'm usually a lurker, but I see mithering about the memoir and have Perspective)

The memoir is almost certainly not getting published in September and most likely never has been. Publishers provide catalogues of their forthcoming books - Pan Macmillan's current one (which include the Bluebird imprint) runs to the end of the year and doesn't include anything from JM. Bluebird's Q1 2023 catalogue (which included Grifty Kitchen and was published in Nov 22) mentions a Jack Monroe book coming in 2024, which would be an appropriate length of time between contract signing and publication (typically 18 months - 2 years). There's a listing because somebody set one up. This happens all the time, it doesn't mean anything (and certainly doesn't mean she's behind on edits, although it doesn't mean she's not), it's just a placeholder.

Sorry to disappoint because I know I'm looking forward to the canal's take on it, but I'd hate to see this become evidence of something it isn't (like the cancer cosplay that wasn't).

Carry on, Canal. Thank(space)you for all you do.

There's something very fucking fishy going on with this Doctor. He's said he's joined her Patreon, he states very clearly he wants nothing in return. Then PayPal her some money, you simping arsehole. What he's doing is saying "I've signed up and want nothing in return, neither should you want anything in return. Be happy you're funding her GOOD WORK"

I honestly despair.

Still on Twitter liking shite about how great she was on QT. Petit Cochon needs to absolutely do one right now. As in fuck off, fuck off some more, do some refunding and then spend time making real life amends.

Liking shite on Twitter about great she was a) is not helping anyone b) is not real life c) looks tragic given the raging bin fire that surrounds her right now.

Jack, you weren’t excellent on QT. You sounded like someone who knew nothing about the topics being discussed. You added nothing to the discourse and showed yourself up. Anybody who thought you had anything useful to say has obviously been living in a cave for the last 13 years. Potentially living off puffball mushrooms.

There’s a reason why the only like on this post is yours.

Thread title by @stunrw pinched off the Hellsite, nominated by LOTS of people, but the one with the most votes was @Bellaboos - congratulations, your prize is two tickets to the Question Time recording when Fiona Bruce makes good on her promise to invite Jack back.

Jack initially rode the high of a not-catastrophic Question Time appearance, but then quickly sank back to her usual level by doxxing the squig who has obtained a CCJ against her.

Wiki is the pink button up top, thread title nominations after post 500 please - carry on, everyone!

This is one of my favourite thread titles ever ❤

My Dad got us our pirated VHSes from a bloke he worked with at the post office. The first time I saw Beauty and the Beast as it *should* look without dodgy drained colour and sound distortion at the start........it was like watching a completely different movie, albeit one I knew every single word of.

And the day I saved up enough money to take myself to Disneyland, aged 31, I cried.

But you know stuff like that is just normal growing up isn't it. Our mattresses came off the back of a van because getting them from a shop was too expensive etc. My parents told me they almost lost our house so there's a certain amount of just not asking questions about where people got stuff, you're just trying to survive.

Oh, and to save anyone looking, the Dr (bearded obviously) currently white knighting for the slop goblin is a paid contributor to the New Statesman.

And for someone who is qualified to rummage around inside people, he conveniently ignores the crowdfund for Sue Lee. He also states she's "caught up with her Patreon". Do we think he had a DM 🧐

Apparently she "bloody well deserves" the cash she has grifted for fuck all!

I believe the median salary for NHS consultants is around £100k 😂😂😂

So err,,,,,probably best to keep it shut on the pov front old bean

Edit: "There is no doubt in my mind that Jack Monroe is a force for good"

In which case I wouldnt trust him to cut the bollocks off a dead Gremlin let alione anything else! Even if his PhD is real 😂

Edit 2: Quel surprise he has a fucking Patreon. A person on a Consultant Doctors salary (and probably doing lecturing and private work on the side) sticking up for somone gifting on Patreon. I'm going to eat my fucking bier glass

Edit 3: He teaches you how to be an activist on twitter and lists "dealing with trolls" as a speciality.

I smell something fishy........

My suspicion is that guest's 'professional' income has cratered over the past year.
The recent speaking gigs are not well paying - a few hundred, maybe £1-1.5k max for clitfest and Stroud, Hay pays bobbins, I also believe she's also being honest about Question Time paying £150. Local telly and radio might not even pay at all, or maybe £100-200. She'll have had her travel expenses covered, but the actual fees won't cover many months rent. So, what else is she doing? There's the publication payment on Grifty Kitchen that would have come in at the start of the year, but she won't be getting any royalties on that one lol. She probably gets a trickle of royalties from the others, which will pay out twice a year. There is also PLR (library lending) and a copyright thing that pays out for articles and books you've published, but I don't think it's thousands (assuming she's managed to register). No big corporate sponcon, no big corporate events (unless she's keeping them VERY quiet), no articles, no me-moir to be seen. There are many more people All Up In Her Niche, doing budget cookery and tips much better than she does (and also being nice to work with, professional etc etc etc), her activism is so behind-the-scenes that it goes to a different theatre. There is a reason she's clinging on to that patreon for dear life.

Which begs the question, did she get so much that she didn't notice yours or was she used to so much that she didn't think it was worth saying thank you. Baffling either way.

Can you tell us how much it was roughly? Was it more like a tenner or more like 100?
I also donated to the tip jar and was surprised not to get an automated thanks - was the beginning of the scales falling from my eyes. It was only £5. But the point with automated thanks is that they’re really easy to set up so there’s no excuse even if it’s a 1p donation. Then you could always send a personal thanks for the higher amounts if you could be bothered (oh, wait…)

She did the whole "second dinner" thing a couple of years ago (most notably when the second one gave her the raging shits and she live-tweeted it).

Give us some new material Jack 😴

I used to do speed , being working class cocaine was well out of my reach.
Ashamed to say I had it all around my flat. I had some next to my kettle and would have it whilst making my morning cup of tea.

It was the worst year of my life that at the time I thought was my best. I felt great, was the skinniest I had ever been but my lips were just dry skin , I had spots all over my face and body and I lost friends I should have had for life. This still 28 years later makes me feel pathetic.

She has by all accounts lost her son to a degree. I can't imagine how she will feel if she ever gains that clarity.
