He just speaks in a very "media trained" way (that's the best definition I can give)
That is the perfect description, it just doesn't come across as sincere or authentic to him or any real human being. He is one of those students I think who swallows the theories and best practices etc but is unable to inject any personality or variation in them.

I was just watching an old collab video, and listen to what Ibz says at around the 14:55 mark:

Very relevant to Jack right now I feel.

Thing is a lot of youtubers think their audience is into them, whereas more often than not its their niche, and their take on that niche, that appeals. No real interest in them outside of that. Plus as people grow they grow out of things and people

YouTube isnt really forever unless you're very lucky.

It's a very fine balance - either people leave your audience if you stay the same for too long and therefore stagnate, or people leave when you change too much too soon or lose the niche you had which drew a certain audience in.

I guess Jack does want YouTube to be his job for the foreseeable, so he's continuing to upload, but it does feel like he's just biding his time until he becomes a student again and reengages with his niche.

I just don't understand how someone with first from a top university can think YouTube is a long term career solution and prioritise that over getting a job or getting on and getting a masters. If he isn't careful he will end up wasting his degree. It will become worthless after a while with no practical experience to back it up and fresh graduates coming up behind him with more current degrees.

Hell even mega youtube stars have had to diversify.

To be fair, I think he is just biding is time until he can do a masters but this year has made it impossible to do so.

I think if he continued down the niche kind of like the Harry Styles video that would fit with diversifying his content whilst keeping it tied to Studytube. I think he wants to be a proper YouTuber though, since he's been hanging out with Anastasia and co whenever he gets the chance.

I signed up to this forum to comment, because I find Jack's Oxford obsession interesting, and somewhat worrying.

I was rejected from 1 of Oxbridge (I won't say which one) at UG and at PG level. I took a year off, got an office job, and then I reapplied to a bunch of universities (got into 3/4), and ended up with a scholarship to the 'other' Oxbridge university. I'm now here and I genuinely don't understand the hype. It's all about the brand. The course doesn't feel particularly special, and there are a lot of pretentious people. I don't understand why he's essentially wasting a year of his life on the off chance that he might get into Oxford. I had absolutely stellar grades, topped my year, excellent work experience, and publications at UG, but I was still rejected from one of them. He doesn't seem to have relevant work experience or the absolute best grades. At least with Ibz Mo, his work (and YouTube channel) was incredibly relevant to his PG course.

Oh my god you guys! He strung a sheet up in his living room to use as a photography studio! What a genius! A master of invention! Such originality! No one has ever thought to do that before!

side note: does it drive anyone else crazy when these people say they’re “creating content”? To me it just makes it seem like they’re “creating” (and I use bag term very loosely) just for the sake of it, and not because they’re genuinely inspired to make something that people actually want to consume. Artists, writers, filmmakers etc make stuff because they’re passionate and have something worth sharing. I feel like people like Jack just “create content” to populate their Instagram feed and fulfill their ad obligations.

I think I've managed to work out what annoys me about Jack's videos: he can't say a single sentence without a stupid zoom-in halfway through it as he says a pun/joke in the most unsubtle intonation ever. It's not easy to watch or listen to, and makes me forget what he's actually talking about.

Ugh yes, this. It's become his thing but I don't know if he should be proud. It's irritating.

Hey guys it's Jack *zoom in* back at it again. *zoom out* I'm always saying such *zoom in* PUNNY things. *zoom out* I thought I'd show you some *zoom in* aDuLtInG today.

It's just so cringe that he puts pauses deliberately in his sentences to make it easier for himself to edit in the zooms. 😑

I don't get why people think Jack is LGBT. I can't really see any signs. His generation tend to have more varied personalities, I feel like some older generations mostly acted similar to 'fit in' which isn't really the case now.

It's wrong of him to be so clearly gay but hide behind the facade of being straight (or at least bi) by having a girlfriend and gain the privileges of both sides.
Ngl this is one of the biggest reaches I've ever read. I find Jack high irritating but come on. 1. He hasn't said anything about his sexuality so we have no idea if he's bi or straight, and it's none of our business anyway. 2. Even if he is bi, you know bi men are allowed to date women... that's literally how being bi works 🤦 Lets not get homophobic on this thread.

Yeah guys enough on Jacks sexuality please. You’re basing this all on him not being a stereotypical guy and it’s baseless. If he is LGBT, I’m sure we will know about it sooner or later

He moved back home for Christmas like he thinks he’s a student? I bet he didn’t go home in the student window or get tested, and he will probably go back to London without any care about testing or if he might have covid. He is obviously one of those people who fled London at the weekend, it’s totally irresponsible

In fairness he’s been living on his own for well over a month now? So technically he’s a single household so he can have a support bubble and go home? I don’t know if I’ve got that wrong but whilst he should have gone home much earlier I don’t know if he’s legally done anything wrong?

I guess that’s fair but if he travelled home after the latest tier 4 announcement for London isn’t that breaking the rules?
