I just read the whole thread and lowkey he's digging himself a hole, it doesn't sound any better with an explanation, the explanation really wasn't good. I know you're not going to connect with everyone you work with but in a normal work context it's like posting on your LinkedIn about a project you worked on and saying "but I didn't connect with one colleague in particular", singling someone out is just not a very nice thing to do. Plus no one is entitled to a follow back. Idk man, it's a bit of a misguided thing to say and he really should've taken the whole thing out of the video
Definitely! His Twitter thread didn't make it any better at all, and certainly wouldn't make Holly feel any better to read after seeing his video already. Your comparison to the real world of work is so true.

Just because people ask drama-inspiring questions on your Q&As, doesn't mean you have to answer them. Some things are worth being candid about, e.g. mental health, others it's perfectly fine & preferred to keep to yourself.

When I was their age I really don't think I was as know it all or arrogant as these study tubers and influencers in their early 20s are.

Having been a student and having worked at a university they make me laugh so much. They act like they're the first to ever experience anything when half the time. I really think some of them are in for a shock when they enter the real world.
It reminds me of when a celebrity will publish a guide on pregnancy when they've just had their first child. It's so naïve and self-involved.

I think it must be Student Vlogs - Dylan, don't know what video it was though.
I never really took to Dylan, I don't know why. I guess he gives off 'lad' vibes which generally puts me off. I think I only watched to find out who his dad is (as he had mentioned that his dad was an actor in a video).

The video Jack refers to is this one:

Some of the comments on Dylan's video (which was made more than a year ago) are recent because of Jack's video as well, and Dylan has responded to a few. Ironically, Dylan didn't actually say anything that bad, and the letter grades he gave to each influencer were pretty inconsistent. Jack is taking it way too personally.

Okay although this video is terrible and I lost brain cells watching the few minutes I tuned in for, I was expecting much worse. I mean he put himself in the F category so seemed pretty self-aware and like you said, didn't even say anything negative about Jack? I assumed he said something unpleasant for Jack to be so salty about this guy reaching out for a collab but this was really harmless.

I think it’s terrible he’s dragged holly Gabriel (is that here name?) she’s got a lot of mental health issues and doesn’t seem to have many if any friends, the fact he then drags her into his mess, just avoid the question, he’s more a wanna be social climber than he let’s on, the fact he can happily ag her off (that’s inadvertently what he’s done) but be friend with touchdalight tells you all you need to know about jack. And the fact he let slip that he’s got no friends left from 6th form too! twit

Oh he is completely a social climber. That sticks out a mile away. He can't hide it, but I think he does it unconsciously. He doesn't see that's what he is doing.

What I find most ridiculous about it, is that on Twitter he defended not explaining the name drop by saying he had cut out footage explaining why he didn't gel with her, apparently he felt it came off wrong... how about you edit out her name completely Jack?!

My cooking as a student :
1 spaghetti package (0.80€) = 3-4 meals
For 10 meals let’s say we need 4 packages —> 3.2€
Plus 2 napolitana sauce jars ~ 5€ at most (I don’t buy ready sauce but tomato pulp so actually ~1€ per can)

Sum : 8.2€ or £7.3

Of course this doesn't mean anything but to me £20 for 10 meals is somewhat expensive as a student with budget limitations.
Sure Jack is a social climber and a first gen uni student but I wonder if he comes from a well-off family, especially since it's his first time batch cooking, a practice very common among students

The average student's fridge is packed with precooked meals in my experience

I just watched the part of the Q&A where he explains his living situation. Some of the reasons seemed valid, like wanting to get out of his hometown and be independent. But he doesn't need London in order to accomplish that. There are other cities that offer the services he needs while also having a way lower cost of living.

Wow his new vlog was boring. For starters why does he have so many plants? And that “flat” is basically a house!

Also I thought he had a flat mate, so why is he living alone, the rent must be so expensive on his own. If he’s complaining about being on his own, why didn’t he move back in with his parents, or a friend.

And the endless complaints about the internet and not being able to get a job is getting really annoying now

He reminds me a lot of Sunbeamjess as she seems to have floundered since finishing uni. Not sure if she has a thread here. She finished uni in Edinburgh (don't know how long ago specifically but it seems like it's been a couple of years since I watched her, as once she left uni the videos got boring) and hasn't done anything since as far as I am aware. It must be so hard to go from being a Studytuber to nothing if you don't figure out your next niche after finishing uni.

Just like Jack to receive a qualification in sign language and yet not have subtitles in the same video. I honestly thought it was so hypocritical of him, and it seems as though he taught himself sign language purely because he thought it was a cool thing to do rather than out of genuine empathy for people with hearing loss.
Also, since he has very firmly established for the public record that he has absolutely NOTHING to fill his days with, surely he can take some time to work on subtitles?

One of these days, we'll have to come up with a new communication system for tone deaf people like him.

It never fails to amaze me how tone deaf so many virtue signalling influencers and celebs are
