Does anyone know what career he actually wants? I know he's mentioned a PhD before, but what does he want to do after that?
I mean, he'd be bonkers to get a PhD in English without plans to go into academia. Any other job would prefer either a more specialized degree (eg. law) or relevant work experience.Does anyone know what career he actually wants? It's super saturated here too, boomers and the older Gen Xs don't retire properly so younger academics struggle to get a foot in the door, and corona has caused massive layoffs and forced people to take "voluntary" severance.I mean, he'd be bonkers to get a PhD in English without plans to go into academia. In the US, academia is crazy saturated, with more PhD graduates than available tenure-track jobs. I'm not sure if the UK has the same problem, but if it does, he should take that into consideration.
I think Jack was misguided in thinking that studying at Durham was going to mean anything once he tried to get a job. Employers don't care for the most part. A first will mean next to nothing after a few years too. Work experience is what counts, which he has zero of, and didn't prioritise at all during his degree.I mean, he'd be bonkers to get a PhD in English without plans to go into academia. For some reason, I think he might want to do something in the... entertainment industry, maybe host tv programs or write for tv shows (more specifically for dramas, possibly screen write for the episodes)Does anyone know what career he actually wants? Too much success too young, in a way. He made a brand off the back of being a uni student... but the achievement is in the marketing, not in the English degree.I think Jack’s arrogance refuses to let him see that he isn’t actually anything special in terms of all the other grads looking for work. He comes across as being so entitled.
He definitely doesn't even need a master's degree for that, he shouldn't waste his time if that's what he wants unless it's a specific course that'll teach TV writing and media productionFor some reason, I think he might want to do something in the... entertainment industry, maybe host tv programs or write for tv shows (more specifically for dramas, possibly screen write for the episodes)
This!! Online uni is so hard and these influencers just go about doing whatever the duck they want without a care about the restrictions. No social distancing or masks and for what? It’s not even like he’s been to see family he hasnt been able to see, or gone abroad for a longer holiday. But going on loads of shorter holidays to different places, bleeping about for Instagram pictures and videos is disgusting when people are dying. I’ve been pretty much alone for weeks and I’ve caught covid from a flat mate, makes me so bleeping angry that influencers think they are above the lawi agree! For uni students like me it’s so irritating to be paying so much for online classes, but it’s to keep us safe, so we accept it. Not like the influencers that seem to put their social lives and videos above the safety of people
Coronavirus really made me change my mind on a lot of studytubers (and youtubers/celebrities in general), I lost my respect for many of them. Unjaded jade is one of the firsts on the list, but jack is quickly following. I just can't wrap my head around how privileged some people are and how badly they use this privilege. I'm jealous? Yes! How could I not be? I lost my part time job, I have to attend uiversity online and I lost countless experiences that I should have had between last year and this year. But jack can just travel and ignore social distancing, seems right. This!! Don't worry, we're all pretty frustrated in having to teach the online classes- it's a completely different way of working and we'd all much rather be doing in-person things, but we have to do it until the virus has gone.i agree!
