I wonder when the wave of his little stans waking up (and by that I really mean turning 17/18/19) and realising he's really fucking cringey is going to happen.

I might be mistaken, but I feel like a lot of people in the studytuber threads used to (long long ago) watch and actually enjoy these youtubers. But I think there's always a turning point where the audience finally grows up and starts to experience life as an adult, and realises that this people are pretty awful role models to have.

His dipping into the booktube world and doing everything in this insincere gimmicky way (without even bothering to read the books) makes me think that yes, he may have renewed his channel with a little life and given it some more viewers, but I'm sure they'll start waking up to the fact that he's just another Peter Pan-esque studytuber who could never grow up.

Sorry only just seen this got fed up with Jack tbh so annoying! I can’t remember exactly what I said but was something along the lines of sadly like many others the prices of things were too expensive and it’s a shame that not all people who are fans could get involved

Why does every video I see of his just ooze try-hard energy? In what way is 'shot of espresso' comparable with the rather apt 'pretentious insufferable little cunt'? Literally just post the dm and get on with getting your sympathy, stop the try hard 'lol i get hate dms but i dont care' charade.

I find this with most YouTube personalities. I'll never understand what's wrong with being yourself and saying 'hey guys, here are some books and here's my thoughts.' Instead they all put on this fake quirky and 'chaotic' act. It's painful to sit through.

I couldn't even make it a minute into his latest video.

It's like a bunch of overused influencer clichés, personality traits, catchphrases and buzzwords were fed into an AI content generator, they cranked up the cringe filter and Jack Edwards is what got spat out by the algorithm.

I just bought a new book today, and managed to break the spine after only a few minutes of what I'd consider careful handling while reading. Jack's claim that he doesn't break the spine of any book he reads is such BS.

Eh, I don't break the spines of books I read. It's something I've never done and it's just in how I've always held books. It's not that weird if Jack doesn't break them imo.

Teach me your ways! Every time I try to avoid breaking the spine, I'm barely opening the pages apart so I can't read the opposite side of the pages.

In Jack's case, the unbroken spine thing really doesn't line up with his claim that he also happily dog-ears and annotates his books.

If someone cares enough about the physical condition of a book that they'll avoid opening the pages fully when reading each page (which is what you'd have to do to avoid spine creases), there's no way they'd be whipping out pen to scribble inside and folding over page corners all over the place.

I used to be extremely careful about not breaking my book spines and even then, some books you literally just can't help but break it. I find it hard to believe that someone who reads 150+ books in a year, where we're talking 1 every 2 days or so, is going to have the patience to be extra careful with every book. I stopped caring about book spines not breaking long ago, mass market paperbacks of today are literally just not built to last so why strain yourself...

But even if he does still seemingly care about book spines, that was never the reason why I ever thought that he doesn't read all the books he says he does. I think he's going to run with the spines thing because it's the most easily disputed.

It was always the surface level thoughts that seemed to be ripped right from goodreads reviews that makes him sus. It's the fact that his 'reading vlogs' consist of him saying 'okay I'm going to start this book now' and then two seconds later when the daylight outside hasn't changed one single bit (like???, it's winter in England, it must have gotten at least a little darker), he's seemingly done and is moving onto another.

Doesn’t he film on different days each time?
I have the same edition of Dune as him and it’s impossible to not break the spine on this one because you can’t even read half the page if you don’t I’m just surprised he chose to have an unpopular opinion

Had to come here because I put one of his book videos on in the background while I'm working.

"You're telling me that F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and none of us knew?" - some of us knew, Jack. How hard would it to be to say "I didn't know" and not assume that you're the smartest person in the room at all times

A lot of influencers make sweeping statements like how all their viewers like/hate the same things that they do, or know/don't know the same information. Jack does it so often it becomes a bit exhausting.

When he was still at Durham and posting videos about how clever he was I got into a beef with him because he went on and on about the fact he had never heard of Anita Brookner and James Kelman. He seemed to think both with obscure authors and didn't like me pointing out they had both won the Booker prize and were pretty much household names as a result. I then got all his tween fans accusing me of "gatekeeping" literature, and how dare I suggest that either Brookner or Kelman were worth the admission price if Jack hadn't heard of them.

...Despite both being in every bookstore I've ever had the pleasure of browsing.
