I did prefer Sophie's, but can see why they chose Lia on the overall look. Neither were anything special. Hopefully some changes will be made next series!

After a knackering day traipsing round with the kids Sophies' would give me a headache, although Lias' bedrooms were boring and a bit generic. Agree it's been a bit lack lustre this year but has managed it's usual trick of getting me all fired up with some paint stripper and a nail gun!

I preferred Sophie’s too but absolutely no one was worthy of ‘master’ It’s becoming laughable now

I wouldn't mind having a JAZZY holiday let because it would be very memorable - and it's not your home so I feel you can go more OTT with it like Sophie did. I really did think Sophie would win before the final episode because her ideas probably translate better to a collection with Next. Where are all the dried flowers in your collection Lia, I thought that was your signature :ROFLMAO:

I like the tomato thing. Lol and the striped light. Irrelevant though as I'm not UK based. I don't believe for a second she designed any of it though. It's typical fast fashion homeware trends they've slapped her name on. Stripes and foody themed. Not ground breaking is it. They probably had a cheetah print group of stuff ready to go if Sophie won. These ladies are not product designers so it seems like a random prize for people who say they want to get into interior design.

The previous guy who won solely on his Portmerion design in the final had an instantly forgettable range for John Lewis that can't have shifted many units

I wish LLB was the host and judge. He'd be amazing.

His series on historical interior design styles in the UK is still available on iPlayer, called "Taste".

I feel like the final episode was lacking? Previous finales you’ve seen more of the designer and their chosen friend to help them but this one there wasn’t much of that.

Yeah he would have to be host as well as judge I think. In Northern Ireland Home of the Year he's the host and then they have three local judges though he's always making jokes about how wonderful he is which wears thin.

Clearly John Lewis didn’t want another collab. The Next range is just ticking all the current interior trends (gingham, scalloped edges, ruffles, stripes and kooky side plates). It’s a rubbish prize for the poor contestants.

It felt like an evenly matched final (even if I felt the helpers who came back should have been the actual finalists).

Lia - Not sure the arch added much. The dining room was lovely and also the bedroom with the tapestry effect wall.
The cocktail nook area felt a bit niche for a family holiday home. The lounge was dreadful. Far too busy and full of clashing colours and a competing mix of interior design periods). The hall and landing were dull and the second stripey bedroom unremarkable.

Sophie - Hall more suitable for a bar or club and I hate that colour blue. Her lounge was fantastic (the standout space of both cottages).
The dining room was lacking as LLB said but I loved her coral bedroom.

I love this show so much and really hope they rethink it massively for next year.

I disliked Sophie's design. If she really had to lean into the safari side of things then at least research what animals are present at the park, where they are from, what organisations the park works with and where. Draw inspiration from those animals and countries. But no just random "African countries" famous for "safaris" and any and all animal print. (I don't think Longleat even has any reptiles or insects for instance.) (Also cheetah print against snakes?!) It overall felt too much and rather tacky. (Thank goodness she removed the African countries though.) Her more muted master bedroom and dining room felt more sophisticated and more appropriate.

Ben seems frustrated with Sophie and I don't blame him.

I did like lia's upstairs rooms. They didn't feel too over the top and suitable for the location. In such a location, something calm like that would feel nice. The tapestry wallpaper is stunning.

Neither seemed very interested in the properties and their time periods / histories which seemed a missed opportunity.

I'm overall ambivalent about the results though as both seemed like someone next would like. I'm a bit surprised by lia's products, it's pretty generic but again,no doubt next heavily influenced it. I remember last year's winner didn't have a great or authentic feeling range either so it's to be expected.

I'm a little jealous of Alan interacting with all the animals haha 😆
