I think Johns colour palette had a more holiday vibe and matched the exterior - like if I'd stayed there my Instagram photos would have all matched. Rita's kitchen was very bland looking. I really liked Johns idea of painting the window frames. His John Lewis range is nothing like his final design though!!
I suppose it made for more exciting tv if anyone can win because I really thought Rita would based on her overall performance.
I also follow Siobhan she really stood out in her series and had a defined style. She's done some really cool things since.
I think.it was on here someone recommended The Block on c5 well I'm addicted! Love seeing so much cash get splashed. I'd love to take part in something like that.

The basket lampshade annoyed me too.

I’m surprised John got away with the tile stickers. They looked good but don’t seem durable enough for a holiday let.

I agree with what everyone said above about white. My house is completely white and if you choose the right paint (Dulux trade diamond matt 😂) it is durable AF. Not everyone needs to be inundated with 1000s of prints and panelling even though that seems to be the in thing.

The basket bedside tables will accumulate dust horrifically and ime velvet sofas (unless they are scotch guarded) tend to look shabby quite quickly.

Don’t get me started on the gloss wall paint, the thought of getting rid of that has kept me up at night.

The right person won in the end but I agree the JL range is tit. The chair has been in stock for ages, they’ve just recovered it. Do better JL, you need to grab the Marks and Spencer iron while it’s hot.

John's design was fantastic, so much better than anything he's ever done before, it almost seems like someone helped him. He deserved to win based on this design but his journey to the final was shocking and he didn't deserve to win overall. Rita's design wasn't very good, the orange hallway was a huge mistake, the kitchen was bad and I didn't really like the dull colours she used. I think she was scuppered by the small rooms, John's layout was easier to work with. It feels like it was fixed for him to win

I felt like this last year too - Matt was a much better designer overall than Roisin, but the prize for winning the series suited Roisin’s aesthetic better

I'll be watching it, there's something very joyful about Banjo - I like him on Scotland's Home of the Year. I take it this new show means he's finished his previous show designing for anyone that wanted it on a Scottish island then?
Banjos voice is so relaxing, he's just lovely. And Ro is a great guy too. I'll definitely be watching 🙂

I really liked John and was rooting for him so pleasantly surprised by the final win. From the start the judges seemed really biased towards Rita and I thought it was a done deal that she would win. I mean, they even liked the atrocious orange hallway. Craig got increasingly arrogant throughout the series so I am glad he got the boot after that awful bar, though Ritas didn't make sense to me-the judges said everyone would have the best seat but it looked to me that no one would be able to see the stage easily and the fixed chairs couldn't even be turned. The red seemed a bit seedy.

The contractors really are the stars of the show though. They get given rough sketches and vague ideas and yet they get it done. (I presume they are also the ones making sure that everything is up to code/standard cos none of the designers think about that)

It's interesting googling the places afterwards to see if they kept the designs. I always think about how the designs will wear over time and how easy they will be to clean, like the rugs on Ritas bar seemed they would get disgusting quite quickly and the beige painted floor in the shop seemed a terrible idea for longevity.

I feel for John with his JL collab- it's so clear that JL had a fixed range of products that he put his name to. I mean candles, really? It's a pity he couldn't do up another place. Hopefully it's still a good launchpad for him and his career. I really wonder what his pupils think of all this haha 😆

Yay

I did get excited when I went to Rye and found the shops they did last year (though one appears to have closed down).

I actually liked Teo’s hut - it was a bit minimal but some of the others were so full of clutter you wouldn’t be able to move without knocking something over.
