I love London & I’d love to live there. I’ll never be able to afford it like but a girl can dream. I’m from Leeds so I’m born & bred in a city.

I’ve been twice this week (three day break with a friend and a two day solo break). I love it when i’m there, but I don’t think I could live there.

I love it. I know it‘s not perfect, and I can understand why people don’t like it, but the buzz of it gives me life.

I very nearly decided to go to university in London (Queen Mary University of London) but decided on Birmingham in the end.
I love London, my younger sister moved to London, as did a lot of my friends after uni.

Lived in South West London for 12 years and left in 2008 … never been back since as I bloody hate the place. My husband was born and bred in South East London and he much prefers the quiet life over here.

I'm a Brummie who loves London and pre Covid would have a weekend away there at least once a year. I haven't been for over two years and have missed it so much. I couldn't live there, but love staying somewhere different and plan to do something different everytime I go. I must say though, my American cousin came over five years ago and I first took her to London to see the usual tourist sights, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, etc. She was bored to death 😂 she was happier when we got to Camden Market though, and even more so when she experienced her first proper pub crawl.

It's the complete opposite of where I live. The culture shock would probably kill me 😬
I'd like to do the big tourist attractions but probably never will.

Love it when I'm there and lived there for a bit but think I appreciate it more now I live outside the city!

We try and go for a few days every year and do all the touristy bits. I love it, always find new things to see - whenever we go there’s always places we’ve run out of time to see! I do like the hustle & bustle of it all as it’s so different to where I’m from but I agree don’t think I could move there permanently. It’s expensive, everyone seems to be in a rush & buried into their phones! I live in North Wales so only an hour away from Manchester & Liverpool, my roots are from the North West so I feel more an affinity to them - it’s like I’m home

I love cities and love London, but I couldn’t live there. I sometimes wish I’d lived there when I was younger. I love the vibe, the cultures, the history, even the tube and it’s station names interest me!
We recently visited Birmingham and stayed in the city centre, we loved it there too! We live in Lancashire but near Manchester and it’s a fab place. I like that we can visit when we want but go back to a quieter life down the road.

I am from there but its a real love/hate relationship.

Id never live there again but i loved the hustle and bustle of my 20s there, going for dinner and drinks after work. It did just feel really cool to dart about with a social calendar!

I like it but as a place to visit, greater manchester for me is a much nicer friendlier place and better to bring up a family.
London the prices of everything are like 4x up north whereas the wages aren't 4x the amount, feel sorry for londoners paying them all the time

I prefer towns or smaller cities and honestly the size of London just seems scary and slightly inconvenient with all the dependency on public transport (wouldn't want to drive in London tbh)

Seems like it would also have too many people + the tourists probably get a bit annoying

Expensive

I love London and it’s definitely my favourite place to visit for a couple of days, however I do get more scared when I’m there. For instance if I’m walking down a street and it’s just me and a stranger (a man usually) then I do find I get more worried than I would at home … though I still worry at home tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do like aspects of London. There’s one off shops I liked to visit and I love the V&A and the national gallery. I can’t get over how they’re 99% free (there’s sometimes charges for additional exhibitions but the core collection is free) and I do weirdly enjoy the tube but I’m a seaside northerner so a day or two maximum at a time and I’m done tbh. I’ve never found it an unfriendly place tbh it’s not like the north but it’s not as bad in my experience as what people make it out to be.

Positives:

I LOVE the diversity of it. I come from a small village in the countryside where everyone is white (literally, not a single person in my school was not white) and English - which is not inherently bad, but from my experience, can become a breeding ground for racism, xenophobia, and insular thinking (all of which I detest). I also love how many great places there are there, in terms of businesses, museums, coffee shops, attractions, etc. It has a really exciting "buzz" about it. There's nothing more magical than London at Christmas!

Negatives:

It feels dirty, especially compared to some other European capitals (e.g. Vienna, Stockholm). People can feel quite cold, quite busy, quite stressed. It is absurdly expensive. It can feel quite "scary" - this might just be me coming from a village, but even in other major cities I don't feel quite as fearful of being mugged/sexually harassed or assaulted/a terror attack as I do in London!

In all, I love to visit London but I would never live there. If I wanted to live in a major city, which tend to benefit from being diverse, I would definitely either live in Manchester or Edinburgh - the former of which is slightly better connected but much less pretty, the latter of which is beautiful but also expensive, though no where near as much as London.

I do live in London, but on the outskirts and I travel in for work. I used to drive to work but they've shut so many roads off now that it takes me almost two hours to drive around 10 miles home, so I get the train instead.

I don't like being here, although where I live is quiet and we have a lot of green space. I've never liked socialising in central London, everywhere is so crowded and expensive. I've been to London nightclubs, and I was always surprised that they're as seedy and tatty as our local clubs, I honestly can't see the attraction. I've done the "tourist" stuff with my family when I was a kid, and later with my own son, we used to go to the fabulous museums during the winter when the tourists were thin on the ground. The Tate Modern is our absolute favourite, and I love the V&A and the Natural History museum too.

One thing I do love is the variety of food available, both to buy and to eat out. I shop in ethnic supermarkets for cooking ingredients (rice, oils, spices etc are so much cheaper than in Sainsburys!) And living in a multi-cultural environment is just normal for us, my son has friends from almost every continent on Earth, his girlfriend is Chinese/Caribbean, our friends and neighbours are Londoners of every colour and ethnicity, it's nice to shout out " Ramadan Mubarak" to my neighbour across the street, and she shouts out "Happy Christmas" to us 😊

It's dirty, it's polluted, it's a dreadful place to be during a heatwave, but it's home for now, I guess. As my Cornish friends tell me, you can take the girl out of London, but you can't take London out of the girl!

I like it a lot to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there. I’d imagine it’s a very lonely place if you don’t know anyone.

Manchester is very overrated IMO. Dirty and very rough in places. Liverpool is a much nicer, friendlier city and the waterfront is breath taking (I know saying that will REALLY offend people from Manchester as well but meh, it’s true 😶🤭😛)
