I understand that this is for a good cause and it’s great that this will get lots of donate but when your platform audience is mostly young girls where a large portion may be unemployed etc this isn’t a helpful way for them to help. 50 dollars is a lot of money and grace can certainly afford more than that. Don’t even get me started on the promise of free gifts if you donate. She should explain to her audience the true benefits of giving anything they can even when they won’t receive a reward for it.
she could only afford $50?? what happened to the #girlboss who apparently earns millions a year ?? desi perkins (queen) has donated $1.2k to a similar fund for george floyd

i’ve worked in the charity field in the past and my absolute pet peeve is charity with reward e.g. donate and you’ll be put into our prize draw of £1000! so awful and kinda defeats the purpose in a way

Edit - just to add tho I have a lot of respect for grace and how she’s been using her platform to bring awareness the last few days, thats a lot more than other influencers have done and at least she has donated a substantial sum
1) $50 isn't a substantial sum for someone who makes as much as she does. I also don't like the bit about throwing in Tala goodies for those who match the donation. Just donate and leave it at that.

2) She uses her platform to position herself as an ally of Black people, lefties etc. because it helps her personal brand to seem more relatable. She has a good relationship with a lot of Black people in the UK creative scene and she'd get dragged if she didn't post anything tbvh. Business aside, I really don't think she gives a crap

Grace loves to be woke and be seen as an ally to black people. However, she hasn’t hired one black person in her teams. She uses black models in her shoots but I’m sure it’s done for her to be seen as diverse, as told by her management or Genflow.
Shes a champagne socialist

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to the B_ND bands? I reallyyyyy don’t want to give grace the money but everywhere seems to have shot up in price at the minute because of home workouts becoming more popular and I need a short resistance band!

just had a quick look on eBay and there are some cheap offers on there

Given the amount of shite that comes out of her mouth why do you believe for one second that Mummy and Daddy didn't fund the whole thing?

I also wonder if they made a very generous bequest to her college, I don't see how else she'd get in with her grades.
In all fairness I think the system is quite different in the UK to the US (ie. you can’t pay your way in...unless you’re like Prince Charles)...nonetheless I do agree she needs to be more transparent and people would respect her so much more

I think that depends to an extent.. remember Toby young famously got into uni because his dad called in a favour..

There's masses of nepotism in the UK. For example, almost every young person who is currently famous in the arts has a famous parent.

I don't think her parents paid their way in for her to get to Oxford. I do, however, think that Oxford is built for people like Grace. She went to private school, she has well respected parents, she has the extra curricular activities that cost thousands of pounds. There are plenty of people at Oxford who aren't actually *that* bright, but get in because they're taught by their private school teachers (who also went to Oxford) how to get in.

What's telling about Grace's privilege is that she doesn't realise how unbelievably lucky she is to have gotten into Oxford with those grades. She doesn't address this at all in her YouTube video, and the top comments all reflect her lack of acknowledgment. Grace will always believe she's worked hard for what she had - and sure, I'm sure she does work hard. But what's frustrating is her lack of acknowledgment that her work will always be viewed as worth more than her less privileged peers, because ultimately she has been born into a lifestyle and class status that paves the way for people like her be successful, regardless of their intelligence.

What were her grades?

first time poster but i had to comment on this : good that shes sharing resources about George Flloyd for her audience, but $50?? come on. i know uni students who have donated $50. it just feels so performative, we all know she is wealthy and has the money to make a bigger donation, say $500 or even 1k. i've seen musicians / other influencers / normal people donate more. a big donation could help so many people right now.

I think it was an A*, an A and a B
if this is true, anyone I’ve seen in oxford with those grades got in by special treatment. I know friends that have been rejected because their AAA grades aren’t good enough. Obviously it’s on a case by case basis, but those grades aren’t even good enough to get into other top unis such as Durham, Edinburgh, Warwick etc

So what do we all think about her house. Does she really have a mortgage on it? Or did mummy and daddy buy her it cash?

Here's the video where she says her A Level grades:

She got an A* in Music, an A in Economics and a B in French.

Wow. The whole thing about exams working against native speakers is rubbish because I had people in my school do French and German that were native speakers and they always got a*s, just admit you’re not as good as you thought you were.

also don’t buy the always wanted to do a gap yah thing because if it was that important to you you wouldn’t have applied to Oxford when you just referred to yourself as being the most clever person in the world.

I don’t think she realises her privilege, the most clever people in my state school struggled to get into oxbridge even with 95+ average in their a level percentage grades. If she wasn’t white and went to St. Paul’s and had rich parents that were able to support her and let her live at home during her gap yah it wouldn't have been possible.

Edit: by the wouldn’t have applied to oxford part I meant that she only applied to go straight out of school despite wanting to do a gap year becusse she knew she was going to get rejected. But then later in the video said she thought she was the most clever person in the world after receiving her gcse grades. It would be worrying if you didn’t get those grades in gcse when you pay thousands for your education a year

Exactly this. Someone pulled something for her to get into Oxford with a B.
