Has anyone read the story about the autistic 7 year old that drowned while in the care of her childminder? A gofundme was set up for help with funeral costs and now they’re selling T-shirts with the poor girls face on

I didn't like to mention this on another thread where the poor girl's death was being discussed but, why do the family need money exactly? They haven't lost any.

I know that sounds callous, but money can't replace what they've lost and they'll be suffering immensely in the emotional sense but not financially.

Unless the family have no knowledge of this even and it's pure grift. That's happened before.

I am lucky enough not to be cash strapped but I was when son was that age. Even though it would have probably been financially crippling if I’d been in that position, I can’t imagine setting up a gofundme on the day he was killed.

There is something icky about the way he says "my little family" over and over.

But you know what, I really want a bedroom make over. I want new fitted wardrobes. Maybe I should forget everything I was taught about saving my own money and just beg for it, seems to be the way of the world now.

GoFundMe should have some sort of vetting process and disallow the silly crap like this, it makes a mockery of the site.

Maybe they are all short arses and really are a little family

I thought I should put this on a new thread as the last one was full. This is a bit of a weird one

Local woman put up fundraiser for her mum who died suddenly in her early 50s. Following hot on the heels of granny dying. Wants £5k for the funeral because her mum loved horses so thinks she’d like a horse drawn funeral carriage

A few days later, her 4 year old cousin was sadly killed by a bus on hospital grounds when he was there visiting his gran. His mum put up a £15k gofundme within hours of his death. Which includes facetuned photos where she’s made him look like an avatar

The second gofundme has had a lot of publicity. And a lot of negative comments understandably. She‘s still made nearly £10k in a matter of days.

Just to update on this one. The mum of the little boy who was run over has opened a 2nd gofundme (after making nearly £12k on the funeral one) to crowdfund her … to buy her own house with a garden so she can bury him there

In the article I read, it says she currently has to travel an hour to visit his grave. I’m not sure why that is as she lives in Margate and there is a cemetery there which has plots available. There’s also another one in Ramsgate. Both are a short walk from a bus stop.

Theres a couple of legitimate needs that comes to mind...funding time off work for grieving parents who can't afford to not be working e.g. if self employed, or only receiving SSP, or to pay for bereavement counselling (I dread to think what an NHS waiting time is) etc

I'm sure the majority of GFMs are grifting, but there are definitley some real costs to bereaved families

Surely there's a million bloody pizza places anyway,it's hardly a groundbreaking idea. I am all for being a entrepreneur,but come on,he's got the funds available. He's basically grifting but trying to spin it as he doesn't want to rely on family wealth

I bet he gets a monthly allowance......

He just wants to keep it seperate to his business and scrounge off people that don't get their lifestyle funded each month

You're probably right, I think too many chancers has made me overly cynical.

I'm primarily suspicious of the people who have these set up sometimes within hours of a person's passing, rather than the families they're allegedly to benefit.

Just read the GFM again and the first paragraph has been changed since 6:30am this morning. When I looked this morning it said she had paid for the items but now it says “accused of something that I immediately tried to rectify”. Wish I had taken a screenshot.

This is often the case with medical repatriation. Cabin pressure, altitude, affects our bodies, and particularly our organs. If theres any possibility that she would not survive a flight, they will not put her on one as they would be liable.

It could be months before she's cleared for flight.

It also could be that she didn't declare the Illness so they didn't cover it, but the premium suggests that she had one or more health conditions that have cover. Alternatively she could have been told that her policy would cover everything except a brain condition if she had prior brain issues.

So was on TT earlier and came across someone's live. They look like they stuck in Dubai, flight has been cancelled a few times. Someone who had joined there live said they should start a GFM up to try and pay for flights or even use the money to pay for bills etc as they not working as stuck there so won't get paid. I'm sorry but just No!

Yeh I’ve read the GFM again and I think this is the case. Think I would’ve done a UK holiday before the brain op then when fully recovered go on a big family abroad trip. Surprised she got a fit to fly certificate.

That's the other problem with GFM......there is no transparency when wording is changed. Once people start donating the wording should be fixed.

There is the option for updates to be added if needed, so that's enough, they shouldn't be able to change the main body of the request.

Totally agree,I am sorry he's died a early death of course,and left his wife and kids but it's really a absolute joke ones been set up. He's a millionaire however they try and pretend otherwise. Saying he didn't make much from Dawson's Creek lol so what ? He's had a life most people will never experience and now those people are donating to his family. It's absolutely crazy

Looks like the grifting plumber is finally getting his. The report says he bought a house and car with some of the money which makes me think CIC's should be banned as not regulated enough.

An article has just popped up on my FB about a GFM for the family of the little girl who was murdered by her dad. It says the family (mum & the 2 boys) have lost everything. What happened to the house?? I have so many questions about this. The dad lived a very flashy life

Totally agree.
Now it's becoming common to see them set up, usually after a tragic death, where it's unclear what the purpose of the fund is. 'To help the family...' fair enough if people want to help to pay for a funeral, as it's an unexpected cost.

They should be closed, imo, once the funeral is paid for, or like the example above the money given to help a specific cause.

People see it as an easy and quick route to get the money they need or to a family in need and what's worse is anyone can set it up so you don't actually know in the person in need is even getting it

Does anybody use the App Whatnot ?;There's a fair few dubious people on that lately, There was a women today selling things for her baby in ICU. People were literally spamming the auction thread to ask to donate to her go fund me. There's also quite a few that have been using the app for a while and I don't actually believe it's to help a family going through a "deviating" time...yes that's their own words lol. People paying well over the odds for that to support families they know nothing about. People are far to trusting and gullible. I get told "that's no way to live, thinking like that". Well no maybe not,but am mostly always right.

Ok so they only owned 1 multi million pound house. The link above shows a regular flow of work ie 56 movies/series after Dawson Creek and 2 movies still to come out this year. I’m gonna take it they did have medical insurance also by the comments posted above.
