what a load of pseudoscientific horseshit. And also, again, what gives Gizzi the right to diagnose people she’s never met en masse? And calling people lazy in the process. Absolute twat

Who’s to say if she “did the work” to make a few lifestyle changes she might not actually have ADHD or depression either…

I’m not doing a Gizzi and diagnosing her. Just using her and the responders logic here.

I hope no one reads that and feels guilty that they are on a waiting list

The role of dopamine in the body is so complicated it is pathetic that people think they can reduce it to the pleasure chemical.

Piss off Gizzi. Go get yourself a neuropsychology degree and come back with your reductive comments.

She’s a complete dickhead who has actually tripped herself up. She said ‘we are neurodiverse’ - it’s actually ‘neurodivergent’ in this context. Coming from someone who has read up on this for the last 3 years and is currently putting off sending my referral form because of attitudes like this and really struggling. I feel like messaging her to correct her and tell her what a privileged moron she is.

Same. So according to her I have to be suicidal to be deserving of help? The woman is as thick as mince and her management really need to take away her social media passwords.

Omg. It’s getting insane. I take the point she’s trying to make about (mostly) young people self diagnosing because of TikTok trends. But they’re getting it so wrong. Someone she’s just reposted has said that everyone is entitled to assessment. That’s the key - people can think all they like but it’s having resources to assess and diagnose them that are the issue, NOT people being more awake to their mental health/neurodivergency. It just smacks of a toddler saying “I did this before you, don’t copy me”.

Also irritating she’s reposted a message from a man talking about ADHD. Men display such different symptoms and are diagnosed far more… if she wants to get on any high horse it could be about how hard it is as a woman to be heard.

That’s *exactly* what it’s intended to do. What a waste of air.

Yes! Absolutely what I was trying to say earlier. What an absolute self indulgent wankstain this woman is. She’d gone quiet lately and I started to think maybe I’d been too harsh, but how is her own diagnosis so legit and no one else’s?

The decision about whether you actually have it or not should be made by a medical assessment, not the judgement of other unqualified people who just got there first. You could argue that the TikTok’s and memes have raised awareness rather than caused harm. I do get the point that some people might think they have it when they do not, but I would say many people who have suffered all their lives can now finally get the help they need because they know what is ‘wrong’ with them. My partner is one of those people and has been on meds for a couple of years now. It’s helped him massively.

Why are her friends more important than anyone else on the waitlist who is struggling and waiting for a medical assessment?
We know so little about the brain that it is no wonder that as people become slightly more aware of neurodivergence (whether it's a TikTok trend or something else that is raising awareness) that more people will feel confident in asking the questions about the way their brain maps either for themselves or a loved one. The problem isn't the people wanting assessed, they but the fact the nhs can't cope.

To all those questioning yourselves…please don’t allow her to put you off seeking assessment. All those on a wait list for assessment are on it for a reason…there’s enough evidence on initial screening to suggest they require full specialist assessment. Untreated ADHD can really make life incredibly hard for people, from their work to their relationships to just everyday functioning. Don’t let this twat, who probably was fortunate to be able to pay for an assessment, put you off.

Utter horse shit!

Just want to echo the same... I have children with diagnosis and one now on the pathway. I had no idea of what to look out for in girls with ADHD until the shock diagnosis and if I'd known I probably would have been able to understand more and coped better. I handled it so badly thinking it was 'just' bad behaviour and I may have permanently damaged my relationship with my child (this is 10 years on). Plus the meds helped her with school, she was at risk of permanent exclusion and now she's at a top uni. I wish I'd known then what I've learnt the hard way. So raising awareness of neurodiversity and encouraging people to seek diagnosis if they think it applies to them is a good thing IMO. The chronically underfunded NHS is the issue and the stigma too. Such bullshit from Gizzi.

As a woman who didn't realise they had ADHD until their twenties and then had to go through the exhausting process of seeking an adult ADHD diagnosis through the NHS - fuck you, Gizzi. How dare you gatekeep.

A proper diagnosis changes your life and yes ADHD often presents completely differently to the stereotypes we all knew from boys in early 00s. When ADHD is undiagnosed you end up with other mental health problems - in my case anxiety - as you try and manage and regiment a life that feels like it's spiralling out of control. Accessing treatment should be open to everyone, not just special snowflakes (sorry I hate that term but that's what I think she thinks she is) such as Gizzi Erskine.

She didn’t.
Looool so how is she not embarrassed

We have private medical care & I’ve been seriously unwell and been treated through the NHS (which btw, when I tried to move over to private aftercare in the pandemic told me not to as they’re better at dealing with legit medical issues…! So how much faith must they even have in themselves ). My husband however presented to a private GP with a weird stomach pain and within 48 hours had seen someone and had bloods and results and an ultrasound, at the concluding appt they literally asked him if he wants a CT scan but to bear in mind it’s a year’s exposure to radiation.

Personalities like Gizzi and Jack run wild and free in environments like this where you’re allowed to lead your diagnosis and treatment with whatever tf you fancy or have found online, this is why I don’t rate it and especially not for hard to define things. I know that the NHS is chronically underfunded but it works where needed. Private healthcare only functions for surface level shit. It doesn’t seem to have the capability for bigger things plus how can you trust a medical decision when you’re paying for it? The fact the NHS won’t take private diagnoses says it all, no? I honestly think if I went in and asked them to diagnose me as being orange with pink hair they’d do it. It’s all bollocks - maybe instead of doing think pieces on Insta stories Gizzi should get in that NHS waiting list

Slightly off topic but as Jack Monroe was mentioned. Is she still claiming she’s skint?
Come over to the threads! But yes, pulling in £2.5k pcm minimum just through her Patreon that she doesn’t provide any subscriber privileges for (despite promising them) plus all the book sales and media work. Hasn’t paid taxes or filed accounts in 3 years so fingers crossed will be in prison soon x
