This is why I'm annoyed that we're getting called the nasty ones here on this forum, none of us have gone anywhere near that sort of language, and this is one of the few places we can speak up about our concerns without being called a wretched bleep, a massive witch, a vile rotten hag, being told to suck men's wicks, etc etc.

And before anyone says oh these are just isolated incidents on Twitter, that first tweet has 18k likes.

It's frightening. I am stunned that someone here was told they're "hiding behind feminism". All that stuff in the screenshots, is that feminism? Plenty of posters here have raised valid concerns, e.g trans women in womens sports. Nobody has actually addressed those points.

What those screenshots have proved is that instead of fighting the thugs and bigots who wish them ill will (no one here has wished trans people any ill will, nor has JK Rowling), all the zealots in the screenshots are doing is creating more thugs

I really don’t understand this all genders can have periods concept and *surprise* I got called transphobic from some old friends I don’t want to be associated with anymore

•Only biological women can have periods, if we can’t call people born with XX chromosomes women anymore then what are they? Do the doctors lie in the hospital when they say you have a baby girl because we must wait until they can identify themselves?
•Only a small number of trans men have periods since those who start hormones tend to loose it within just a few months, so do we have to have to completely change our language and rewrite biology books for the very small population of men that are transgender, cannot stand to be reminded that they were born a woman and haven’t had the hormones kick in fully? (And I expect most if not all transmen will take hormones if they expect to pass in society)
•And with the amount of hate JK Rowling got with all those unnecessary tweets, I think there’s a lot more important issues in the world right now and there’s a lot more important issues regarding transphobia that needs to be tackled, with the trans suicide rate so high (which I highly doubt is caused by someone calling people who menstruate a woman) and I don’t think telling someone to shut the duck up is the solution as all that does is infringes on their right to free speech and to an opinion instead of respectfully and openly discussing it

Even "XX chromosomes" is no longer safe. r/TwoXChromsomes has been invaded by them on Reddit. There is nothing just for us.
They literally want to call us "people with uteruses," "people who menstruate," even the awful "bleeders."
Doctors at birth are apparently terrible because that's only the "sex assigned at birth," and not biological sex.

Men who identify as women get so utterly offended when women talk about periods because they can't have them, that we're made to "shut the duck up" about them. Women are fundamentally different to men in so many ways and we’ve got to the point now where we are being denied to acknowledge those differences in the fear of being transphobic and “cancelled” for having that opinion and it literally means nothing to be a woman anymore, they have completely diminished our identity to “people with uteruses” or whatever bull and now they’re threatening us if we speak up about these issues. I am not against men transitioning to be a female if that helps them feel more comfortable but there will always be a difference between trans women and women and we have to acknowledge that!!

Exactly. I will absolutely respect anyone who wishes to be referred to as she/ her and I do think its brave to want to live life as a woman, it certainly can't be easy. But I will not sell my own sex up the river by treating "woman" as a dirty word or acting like trans people are the exact same as us. Imagine I started telling men how they should behave? I haven't a clue what it's like to be a man and nor would I even dare to pretend I do.

The term guys may have evolved to somewhat encompass everyone rather than just men but the remnants are still there and it can still leave a bad taste in people's mouth. It's not just "terfs" rallying against it. Clearly it makes some trans and gender-nonconforming people uncomfortable too.

Hmm. I’m not sure how I feel about this.

What benefit will be had by blocking people whose thought processes do not align with your own?

Personally, this “cancel culture” and everyone being so quick to “shut them down” is toxic. How can we ever deal with complex, deep or emotionally charged topics if people refuse to engage with others?

I see a lot (particularly recently) about how people need to widen their circles and become more diverse and inclusive with their social groups. Does the same apply to a lot of those people spouting this need for open mindedness?

No, I don’t agree with a lot of the comments made on this thread. However, as I have the right to think and feel one way I recognise that others have the right to polar opposing views. This right cannot be taken away from them or me. It’s not a “loony lefty” or “ok, Boomer right wing” debate.

Wow this was great, thanks for sharing! It's so damn refreshing to hear a trans person speak who is calm, rational, celebrates critical thinking and acknowledges the difference between trans women and biological women, and the damage that trans activists are doing to women's causes.

The term transsexual makes so much more sense to me. It is someone who physically goes through sex re-assignment surgery in order to become the opposite SEX. Even though they are still different to biological woman, it's a much more tangible idea. Transgender doesn't mean anything as gender is a social construct and only feeds into damaging stereotypes. I've come across other transsexual people, interestingly enough, also of the older generation, who also speak about about them being attacked by younger transgender activists for being bigoted just because they identify as transsexual.

You're so welcome. I implore everyone to watch this video, especially those that bandy about the term TERFs or transphobic like confetti. If women and their points of view aren't going to be listened to, perhaps it would help hearing it from the perspective of someone who has lived through this and is also very evidently pro-women

I just finished the video, and wow. It gave me goosebumps and made me tear up. I agreed with everything she said! This is the kind of discussion we need, what she suggests benefits BOTH women and trans, so it is possible to look out for both.
I'm tempted to share it on Facebook but admittedly am scared to do so.

Stop cherry picking and yelling terf for a second and read what is actually being talked about here. There are many well thought out comments on this thread as well as sources that you appear to have completely ignored. This is exactly the kind of thing that women and our allies are talking about. There are valid concerns but people like you would rather bury your head in the sand and throw insults rather than engage in an important and civilised discussion. This mentality helps no one, as pointed out in the video someone shared above of a transwomen expressing the very same concerns many of us have.
