I'm reading Deeds Not Words by Helen Pankhurst (got a basically brand new hardback copy for about £4 off ebay for my little feminist library) and there's a short paragraph that discusses how the "dominant theme" of the 100 years of feminism between (some) women getting the vote in 1918 and the book being written in 2918 is that "male dominated parliament has been slow to take seriously the concerns of women MPs. The protracted process of getting equal pay legislation... is evidence if how sluggish the law has been".
Isn't it funny then, how supposed trans rights have appeared from nowhere and taken hold so quickly and the government has fallen over themselves to reinterpet and misinterpret the law for the benefit of these men. TRAs will talk about the history of their campaigning (especially in the LGBT community) but as someone who was part of the community through the early 2000s and 2010s, part of LGBT societies at college and Uni etc, they were few and far between. My older gay friends who lived through the 80s and 90s say the same. Really, within the last decade at most, the T in LGBT has gone from a minority (of primarily same sex attracted men) to the centre stage screaming crackpot AGPs that we see now. We have female victims of grape being compelled to call their rapist "she" in court before we even have a legal system that takes female victims seriously. We have on-demand treatment for "transgender children" before there's been any real significant steps forward in treatment for endometriosis.
It just goes to show that the government knows exactly who the men and women are, doesn't it? And the fight for women's rights is far from over - it's a fight in itself to hold on to the rights we've got.

Had a bit of a weird thing happen today. I was in a cafe, sitting in a booth when a youngish man asked if I minded if he shared the booth with me. I had no problem; there weren't many seats free and I was going to be leaving very soon anyway. He looked really 'normal' in jeans and a t-shirt with an open overshirt but on closer inspection I noticed he had breasts. It was just very odd as he didn't fit the usual AGP or blue hair TRA profile and definitely wasn't a TIF.
There was a more obvious TIM on my tram into town too but he looked like a tall nerdy bloke with no make up wearing a very dowdy black dress, and brogues.

Might be non-binary, I suppose. The breasts could be gynecomastia, which has various causes - perhaps he had lost a lot of weight?

The substance of his case seems to be that that trans folk are being told by their employers that they have to use different changing rooms and toilets and this, apparently, has left some of them so stressed that they are unable to continue working......
. Further, they feel that htey can no longer access public places because of 'dodgy policies' around toilet use. I hope he's aware that 'dodgy policies' is most definitely not a legal term.
The piece de resistance of his argument is the very dubious claim that the EHRC has a legal obligation to promote a world which is 'safe and kind' to trans folk which is, apparently, all that those who love them want.......As I read this, I found myself humming 'We Are The World' by USA for Africa - which, incidentally, is a far superior song to 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' - but I digress.
I have to say that his approach is one of the most imaginative and nonsensical things that I have ever read. #BeKind is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a legal argument. I really am beginning to wonder if Maugham is a genuine lawyer - maybe he's just self-identifying as one
