It just didn’t have that air of excitement you normally get with an opening ceremony. It felt tacky. London 2012 was very slick in comparison.
Some of it was OK but it was a very disjointed ceremony overall, too long and the fact it didn’t tie together was really jarring. The figure on the horse (clearly a different woman to the freerunner as several inches taller) goes all along the Seine for what seems like forever, walks for ages, hands the flag over, disappears. Flag gets put up upside down. Ok…
I don’t see what drag acts or ménage a trois have to do with the Olympics as others have said. Was it meant to be French culture? I prefer 2012’s brief shot of the Brookside les kiss, the first gay kiss to air in many countries…!
I just feel like drag is shoehorned into everything and it's nothing to do with French culture. It's not specific to France, it's in every Western country.
I’m not saying this person was a man, but watching the women’s diving just now, my 6 year old said “if this is meant to be girls then why does that person look like a man?” I started to say that she was just a woman with short hair but then saw a shot of the person walking up the stairs and honestly my brain went “man”… so I then had to say “hmm ok that does look very like a man, if it was then that would be cheating, but hopefully it’s just a woman that looks a bit like a man, which doesn’t mean they aren’t a woman” I HATE that I have to say these things because I’m doubting that they are all women?! I don’t want to confuse my child but I’m confused!
I didn't watch it as I was somewhere else. But the whole Drag Last Supper felt like almost a deliberate provocation. A bit like chevron rainbow flag pedestrian crossings. They want people to object so they can hand tragically nailed to forehead about being the real victim here.

They're intended to be provocative and intrusive, and then when someone graffitis on them or interferes with them, it gives the local paramilitaries an excuse to claim they were being hate crimed and to round up some Prods / Catlicks (delete as appropriate) and give them a good shoeing.
Similarly, drag queens and trans flags everywhere are designed to be bait for vandals or people objecting so that the people putting them up can cause trouble and claim they're the victim of hate crime, only the scary men with scary accents summoned by interfering with them wear bad wigs and ill fitting dresses rather than ski masks and AR-15s.

I'm just boycotting the whole Olympics. It's become a platform for trans ideology if what I hear of the opening ceremony is true, and for posers like Tom Daley to keep showing us his muscles and to gain more Instagram fame. I dislike Tom Daley for two reasons. One, I read an interview with him ages ago where he was almost dismissive of women's concerns over trans issues. However he knows perfectly well what a woman is when he wants to buy a baby. Two, the media almost make out as if he invented knitting and crochet, as if men and women haven't been knitting and crocheting for hundreds of years...
It's even more ridiculous when someone declares themselves as "trans non binary", so they are neither male nor female but yet at the same time they are the opposite sex of the neither male nor female that they were or weren't in the first place...utterly and totally stupid.

They were responding to a question in today's daily games news conference about apparent "offended reactions" to the spectacle from a Catholic and Muslim perspective and those "countries that don’t share inclusivity and sexual freedom".
One scene featuring drag artists in the ceremony was being viewed on social media as an interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper that some found offensive.
"We imagined a ceremony to show our values and our principles so we gave a very committed message," Paris 2024 president Tony Estanguet said.
"The idea was to really trigger a reflection. We wanted to have a message as strong as possible."

Organisers worked with the International Olympic Committee on the topics they wanted to reflect in the show – including promoting LGBTQ+ and women’s rights.
"Naturally we had to take into account the international community," Mr Estanguet said. "Having said that - it is a French ceremony for the French games - so we trusted our artistic director.
"We have freedom of expression in France and we wanted to protect it."
Paris 2024 artistic director Thomas Jolly was perplexed by the negative reactions to the show that turned bridges into settings for artistic performances.

In its latest 'Portrayal Guidelines', the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has encouraged media not to use the terms "biologically male" or "biologically female" when describing trans athletes, calling it "problematic language".
“A person’s sex category is not assigned based on genetics alone and aspects of a person’s biology can be altered when they pursue gender-affirming medical care." Alternatives such as "transgender girl/boy, transgender woman/man, transgender person" are then listed.
"It is always preferable to emphasise a person's actual gender rather than potentially calling their identity into question by referring to the sex category that was registered on their original birth certificate," the guidance continues, "If there is a clear reason to refer to the category a person was assigned at birth, the terms to use are: 'assigned female at birth', 'assigned male at birth', or 'designated female at birth', 'designated male at birth'."
