While in theory I agree with you but being perfectly honest if you (general you, not specific you) were in danger of losing one of your income streams and potentially your social circle would you speak out? I'm not in danger of losing my job but I still have to be very careful what I say and how I say it simply because my role is looking after the wellbeing of all our staff and my oldest friend has a trans sibling.
Yes I agree, working women can’t speak out for that reason (I mean some did like Maya Forstater who then went through hell). (Also depends on the social circle tbh. The working and lower middle classes have very little time for this trans
tit, although some of their daughters do get caught up in the cult and that’s a big problem.)
But Marina Hyde is not like you and me. She’s rich, posh, upper middle class bordering on aristocratic as I understand her background. She’s written books, done TV, had a long career with the Guardian where she doesn’t even have to be a journalist, just wrote 500 words of snooty supercilious snark every week (as I recall it).
In the Guardian’s favourite language and framing, that of Progressivist Identitarianism, Marina has Privilege, Social Capital and belongs to the Cultural Hegemony. This, according to Progressivist Bystander Theory (which the Guardian was very hot on back in 2020) means that she is obliged to speak out on behalf of Marginalised Communities, in this case vulnerable women threatened by the trans cult.
Come on Marina love! You’ve made bank talking the talk for years - now let’s see you walk!
Do you think she will? I would hope so, otherwise it might start looking like Progressivism is mere status signalling rather than a cohesive belief system which people actually adhere to, and of course, that simply can’t be true.
