I used to like Gary and his videos and still do enjoy the odd couple, back when they were simple, light hearted, checking out some of the good food this country has to offer in both well known and hidden gem establishments (for those I could let the odd fast food chain slide as theyre not somewhere i go anymore so it can be interesting to see current trends). But the descent into rage bait slop is disgusting, manifesting into half the comments on that latest potential food poisoning curry takeaway being racist shit (at the time of writing this they hadn't been removed). The misleading titles and not to mention the stupid shocked or deep in thought thumbnails that've been out of trend for, in social content terms, an age. The pop up table also has to be one of the dumbest gimmicks I've seen in quite some time yet he and danny seem to think its the most original and hilarious bit in decades. It definitely feels like that group who seem to have gravitated together (though Harrison seems to have managed to be intelligent enough to steer clear of what i'll be generous and call bad content decisions) are feeding off eachother and using one anothers ideas in a race to the bottom.

And I know its clearly a winning formulae views wise for him but jesus christ is he going for the Guinness book of records achievement for most fish and chip shops reviewed?! How can you not be bored making the same thing over and over let alone being a viewer. Going back to my point of unoriginality with every single one apparently being either the best or worst in history if the titles are to be believed

Finally, as someone who actually works in the restaurant industry and not someone who as far as I think we've been informed didn't just grow up with parents who owned a pub? (feel free to correct me if more info has been given in a video I've missed) some parts are outright (I think intentionally) dishonest. Specifically when referring to things as 'not worth the money' or 'overpriced' etc (I grant you in some cases eg Salt Bae restaurant this is fair and true). I say intentionally dishonest because in some videos he acknowledges costs of rent, running, wages, quality of produce etc but in others its ignored entirely i presume to get the reaction of a lot of people who don't think about those things with the 'oh i could make that at home for half the money' mindsets. A recent example that comes to mind would be where he's reviewing i believe a hotel cafe that serves 'the most expensive pastries in the country' then comparing it to Greggs, without any consideration of location, atmosphere, the experience of a highly trained brigade of patissiers, the high quality ingredients vs takeaway, made by a machine, frozen, with the cheapest ingredients possible to keep margins high, Greggs. The industry especially now needs much better ambassadors, not people/wannabe influencers slagging it off.

Without too much stretch of the imagination in Garry's very formulaic shtick: 'has he got too big for his boots? I'll let you decide. Buh bye' *walks off muttering to myself into the distance while trying to dodge people and/or traffic*

You're spot on. I'm the OP of this thread and I actually used to enjoy watching his videos. Some of it was because he looks like my late husband, who wasn't a huge fan, declaring Gary to be 'boring and repetitive.'

He's got such a limited vocabulary when describing food. As his YT fame has grown he's showing his true colours of being downright aggressively rude to his son during filming, despite describing it as 'banter'.

I have read in previous vlogs some commenters suggesting it’s his son answering in the comments anyway I’ve also been wondering if that person who he pinned on YT (ie. had the dogs set on them) is even real, I genuinely hope not. Cos I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes, but call me cynical

Some pointing out their distaste in Greeno comments. One said they like the videos, but getting a little tired of all the advertising, as they pay £12.99 to remove advertising. He replied “you’re getting tired of one advert per month”

He also disagreed with another over the value for money etc regarding HF, person raised some valid points. one said you’re obviously being paid to plug them etc. just losing credibility with each one..

There he goes ambushing people again I was so bored watching it, I was doing the dishes waiting for the Chef part. Glad his tomato was juicy, not raw 🥱. I watched it and it was so awful, it was like feeling brain cells pouring out of my ears. He shovels down a burger, a bacon roll, and a foot long hot dog. All the while saying 'wow, its such a great service to provide to the town' (exactly the same stuff Gary and Danny said) and just spent of the time he wasn't eating going on a ramble about British seaside towns.

Also a nice tacit threat I thought, both with saying if anyone harassed him again it would be recorded and posted online, and also by mentioning the Yorkshire Pitt bull turning up to that guys work. Well he did a video where he claimed because of his internet celebrity he'd been 'assaulted' in public on multiple occasions, and in the comments of that video financial donations were flying in because some people just have money to burn and a severe lack of sense. So I don't know what else it would be!

They both use the most annoying ideas for the quality of food too, key offender is THE CHEESE PULL.

It doesn’t mean a bloody thing in any context other than visual advertising to get you to buy the product, and often times it’s done by adding glue to the sodding cheese for marketing purposes. Are they eating glue, or are have we been sniffing it to sit through this tripe?

Gary’s latest video is the biggest farce he’s ever put out. Mid at best Thai food, including a tub of “stir fried veg” that looked like they’d boiled it in the toilet. Despite admitting the stewing, soon-to-be compost didn’t look the most appealing, he later branded it as “bang on” - what? Bet that didn’t make it home.

This saviour complex is really going too far, how can he claim impartiality when he’s going to champion these run of the mill places that happen to have a ‘viral’ video he can exploit.

It’s clickbait nonsense so he can spread his cheeks and have the sun shine out of his self-important rear end.

Spare the moral lecture Gary, you’re changing nothing and only in it for yourself.

His latest tour de farce at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant really highlighted a growing trend between him and Danny. They’re preconceiving the results of their “reviews” and this one really showed it off. He went for a “redemption arc” approach, made a point to show that an egg was overcooked and then when it happened again (after he said he wanted to do it straight away so no excuses) he then started making excuses because it didn’t fit the vibe he wanted the video to have.

It’s so much fun when he starts flapping and lying on the spot, he’s a bit of a dullard so he’s not very good at it. Then in the outro he feels the need to tell us again why the egg situation was totally different this time. Multiple takes, photography etc etc. Yet he said he did it right away and then decided it was fine? Which is it Gareth? One wonders if the management team has suggested a good review to keep doors open.

also this brain dead independent businesses thing is a load of hogswash. It’s a pre-built excuse for praising medicore businesses for other motives. Danny had a phase on rate my takeaway of going to dodgy independents that all looked the same, reeking of money laundering. (Who has the money to have full shop fits as an small operation? And they all had pictures of the joker and Tommy Shelby looked like a teenagers bedroom)

Danny came out and said that paid reviews had taken place at RMT, is it still going on?

Gary Lies has started pre-reviewing and dumping googled info on food before he even puts it in his mouth. Usually when there’s someone else on screen. Can’t let someone else have a say.

His behaviour with Si King was insane, what is actually wrong with him. Bit of respect for someone who has actually achieved something, but can’t have that because it highlights how low-brow he really is.

Lastly, jalapeno is pronounced with a H not as its written. Food expert btw

His latest video at the steak place was really bad form. It's like he went there to slate it. I can't believe he filmed himself telling the waiter everything that was wrong with the food. I thought it was reprehensible to talk at the end about how they gave him the entire bill free and then ENCOURAGE people to ask for their money back when they are not happy with anything. It just feels like Gary has now opened this place up to a load of chancers.

I jumped through this video and then unsubscribed from him. I’m done with his content.

Bet he’s having a right giggle with his foodie mates over what he’s cooked up. To use his elderly mum with dementia in all of this is tragic and disgusting.
