Anyone watching Louis' US road trip in the "DIY electric van"? It's so stressful but he seems a bit out of his depth. I don't understand why he makes it so difficult for himself. Maybe for the content?

Did you see when he asked for suggestions for a present for Raya because “gifts aren’t my love language so I can’t buy them” completely having missed the point that you do things in the Other Person’s love language. Poor Raya.
The electric van trip is clearly sponsored by someone but he’s making it look very stressful, it‘s bad enough when your phone runs down but to be driving in clear view of your car battery when it’s on red….can’t imagine anything worse.
I laughed at the last one when he said “I won’t be too technical as none of you understand” then later he buys the most basic supermarket spanner and calls it “…er….tools”. Proper vanlifers have full toolkits of all sorts! Louis has always had that posh habit of getting other people to do stuff for him and claiming it has his own, “self-converted van” my a. You met the guy who either you or your sponsor paid to convert it Louis, you didn’t convert it.
I come across like I hate him, I don‘t, I enjoy a lot of his content, but we’ve watched him for so long I have lots to say
At the rate he's going, I really don't see Louis making it to New York before Christmas. He seems to be breaking down at least once a day. I can see him hopping on a plane to travel the rest of the way, negating the whole "eco" angle of this trip.
And Raya seems to be doing duck all. She hasn't posted on her channel for almost two years. I guess being married and pregnant is a full time job.
That woman hasn't worked a day in her life. When they met, she was fresh out of university and living in a luxurious Manhatten apartment and doing duck all. She said in their 'how we got together' video that she was helping out for an hour or two once a week at a catering business if she was in town but that she was flexible to just follow him on his travels around the world spontaneously.
I wonder if her parents still support her/ them monthly or if Louis would be too proud to accept it. Or maybe he was smarter than we think and invested wisely at his YouTube peak.
Yeah I keep wondering what she's up to while Louis is on this "adventure". Wouldn't you be permanently stressed wondering if your husband is safe? Not great when you're pregnant.
Judging from this video he really doesn't seem smart with money.
Raya’s “work” is the Raya and Louis channel I guess, it always looked like it was meant to be hers, with him taking a back seat.
Possibly. But it has even fewer subscribers than her solo channel. It seems so silly to be focusing on the weakest channel.
i agree but I think the intention was to build it up while they did their travel across the US, travel across Europe, travel down to Costa Rica etc but times are different to when Louis got to 4m subs and it just hasn’t grown that much. Being a couple makes them both more boring!
They just aren't consistent enough with their uploads, going months without content at times and their channel has only been a success when much bigger Youtubers like Kara and Nate, Eamon and Bec and Kingingit featured.
The Costa Rica tree house build could have been a gold mine for them as that's a pretty unique project but Raya talked about it taking ten years to grow a tree that's big enough for them to start building and I don't expect this to ever happen anyway. They'll settle into their suburban UK life and go on sponsored vacations.

I agree, I think they’ll ditch Costa Rica. It would take some actual roughing it and also they would be small fish in a big pond of determined, wealthy people with corporate backgrounds who would dictate how things are done. That community isn’t some hippy-dippy commune, it’s run by people with money to make money out of other people with money.

The whole trip is a big sponsored project, did you hear him saying “we”? Some pro-electric-vehicle organization has set it all up as a propaganda piece to make people think you can whack your own battery in your car and just go. Surely it’s missed the mark though, it may end up as a heartwarming “just in time” “driving home for Christmas” story, but he’s made it look super stressful, the tech looks unreliable, and how is someone driving 6 hours to bring you a part economical, reliable or green? Call me cynical but ever since he had a seemingly independent trip to South Africa at a time when everyone who went there was getting carjacked, and he was drifting around saying “There’s no crime here, it’s awesome!” and then slipped in “ and the South African Tourist Board have been amazing…” this is what I look out for with him. It’s disingenuous. He makes out to be this independent explorer but he’s usually either paying a tour company or he’s the front man on a sponsored trip with other people running round fixing vehicles, arranging stays, keeping him on crime-free roads etc.
That woman coming up to him saying “you’ve really inspired me” was fake too, why would she recognise his van, and he looked very uncomfortable.

Honestly, if I ever got the idea to self convert a vehicle to full electric, this is the series that puts me off of it 100%. And it really doesn't help that Louis is an irresponsible idiot with zero planning skills.
