I feel like I’ve not been able to watch Friends recently, but this thread is making me laugh and want to watch it again

I love the episode where Ross is still living there and Joey writes a script for him and Chandler to make up after their fight.

I used to fall asleep to Friends every night as a teenager because my house was creepy af, it was a huge comfort to me. The way Matthew Perry delivered his lines is iconic, the fact I can read so many of these quotes and know exactly how he said it, the mannerisms, everything is a testament to his talent. Today is a very sad day.

I’ve been reading up about Matthew and now watching friends has such a different meaning. He doesn’t remember filming seasons 3-6. In the earlier seasons he’s already on drugs. In season 2 he says he’s on so many pills. When he’s skinny it’s pills when he’s fat it’s alcohol.
When he proposes to Monica he is addicted to alcohol and then in the next season (S7) he is skinny again because he has been to rehab.
He said his fave episode to watch was Chandler and Monica’s wedding as that is when he looked his healthiest. He had been driven from a treatment centre to film and was going through rehab. And the only season he was sober the entire time was season 9 which is when he won an Emmy. It just shows how talented he is that he was able to play this hilarious character whilst having so many struggles in his personal life. You would never ever be able to tell he was addicted to anything. He must’ve hid it very well. It makes watching it now really difficult especially as he struggled to watch it himself. Apparently he was addicted to alcohol from the age of 14.

Oh my god- Matthew Perry died. I’m actually devastated.

I have just sobbed for the last 20 mins. Thought it was a sick joke when I see it! I am devastated.
Friends has helped me though so much shit, as silly as it might sound but it was always and still is my one consistent in life.

As someone has already said above, the fact you can read any of his lines and just hear exactly how he said them is testament to the man. So sad today, like many others I grew up with Friends. So sad that he never seemed to find the long term peace and happiness he deserved, considering all his success and talent. Just so sorry it ended this way for him. Think I’ll be rewatching Friends soon

one of mine is when Rachel is a bridesmaid and he says “I’m sorry, we don’t have your sheep”.

I’m not one to get upset over celebrity deaths, the only one I can really remember making me cry, even now I tear up when I watch him, was Robin Williams but this has destroyed me. Rest easy Matthew.

There are so many iconic lines but the one I always loved was from The One with the Prom Video - “So how many cameras are actually on you?” It cracks me up every time I watch it.

So sad to read about his passing. Like many people, friends is my comfort show and every year I watch it from beginning to end and it always brings me joy and makes me laugh. It always saddened me that Matthew never truly saw his own brilliance. He was so hard on himself, but many of his iconic lines were ad libbed and it's just a testament to him and his comedy that the writers let him go with it because they just knew that he'd be so much funnier unscripted. I love watching the bloopers because he'd have the rest of the cast in tears laughing as they never knew what he'd come out with next. A true icon

I'm so sad to hear about Matthews passing. It feels like someone I knew has passed. I'm actually going to the friends experience tomorrow in Dublin as part of hen. It's going to feel very odd.
