Well, he might've been out qualified by his teammate for the first time in his F1 career, but that was a bloody impressive effort by Mr Saturday George Russell. To do that in his first qualifying in that car - more than took the battle to Bottas.

Shows just how good Russell is and is going to be. He is definitely next in to a Mercedes seat, whenever either Hamilton retires or Bottas is replaced.

I doubt Lewis is retiring. He'll want to go for the 8 titles.
We will hear the tyres are gone, no power, don't feel well but will come through and win.

Agree re Alonso...it's all a bit boring when there are loads of other drivers desperate for a seat.
Hamilton apparently isn't feeling 100% after having Covid. I think Russell's fantastic drive has caused a major stink at Mercedes and that's the only reason he's back this weekend.

I've never particularly warmed to Alonso. I've only got into F1 in the past 5 years, but moreso in the past 2, do didn't see him at his best. Just comes across as too arrogant.

After seeing Checo win yesterday, and a long-time (circa 2007) fan of Seb’s through thick and thin, I am VERY much looking forward to next season

He’s isn’t gonna win the championship or anything, but he should be up there getting good results and podiums.

And who knows in 2022, rumours of Toto going to Aston, could be a Merc 2.0

Rumours of Newey going to Aston too. If Red Bull don't get a decent engine deal, he will be wasting his time.

I read the FIA report last night. Sometimes I hate the rules, so stupidly complex, he had lost two places from the spin surely thats penalty enough. The team told him to regain position but he didn’t/ couldn’t.

Similarly with Perez under the safety car, what I found weird was 2 drivers (can't remember who, LEC and RIC maybe) yielded and let him pass them to regain his position. So presumably those drivers thought that was right too?

Agree, they all seem to shy away from it. Senna wanted Prost as his teammate to prove he was the best. 88 is still talked about as epic. Surely to cement yourself as the best beating a rival in the same car is the pinnacle.
Micheal v alonso in the Ferrari or Max v Lewis in the merc. Egos are too fragile these days.

Yeah, it was awful to watch. What amazes me is still how the marshalls and medical team just run straight in to help. Bloody heroes the lot of them!

Do you think Mercedes would change mid season like Red Bull? I personally don't but are they happy with Bottas getting 3rd mostly? Yeah maybe an odd win and a few DNF's. Still think this 1 year deal for Hamilton is it and then maybe 2 Seats available. Gorgeous George and Ocon! Hey you never know

I don't see Mercedes changing mid-season. Not unless Bottas properly kicks off and causes mega trouble, which I just don't see happening.

George is definitely going to be in one Mercedes seat in 2022, I can't see any way he isn't.

I'm not so sure about Ocon though getting a Mercedes seat. Though he would be another no. 2 to Gorgeous George who would put Ocon to shame I think.

To be honest, I'm still not 100% sure that Hamilton will leave after this season. I definitely think he is on his way out, but he might fancy a go at the 2022 reg cars before callijg time after that.

What a day, Perez beat Verstappen! Can't even remember when was the last time a team mate beat Max!

My husband is convinced it was all a conspiracy and they screwed the pit stop on purpose to not piss off Hamilton
Good race though. I was thrilled for Perez and loved seeing George pulling some decent overtakes. Shows he’s a great driver, especially considering he’s a bit squished in that car.

I read Hamilton will have to get special permission to enter Abu Dhabi as due to their Covid restrictions the last day for entry is today but the earliest Hamilton can fly in is the 9th, so that’s an interesting one. I really hope George gets another race and Merc don’t mess up the stops this time.

I do really like Max and his dad is pure trash and it’s clear all Max’s bad qualities are from how his dad raised him. I wish he would tell him to fuck off.

I can understand the road rage though I don’t like the bad terms he uses on drivers. But one was used here against him which explains a lot.
