I love F1 it has many happy memories of watching it grow up. However I am so over the hate comments guising it as they stans of such and a driver (usually Lewis). I don't hate any driver, I can't hate them I don't know them. There are some I really like and others I'm not keen on. Never would I feel it was OK to hate and some of the comments are damn right disgusting and really highlights what kind of people they are

I'm almost the same, I either love drivers or I'm not fussed. Except for one driver. I do hate. And I only justify my hate because he's still not over it, so I'm still not over it. And that's Fernando Alonso. He is still bitter about Lewis beating him in 07, so I'm still pissed off about how he behaved at McLaren in 07. Was really hard for me to support him when he came back to McLaren.

But even though I don't like him, I'm not gonna be overly personal with my dislike. Just gonna laugh at how he has never gotten over it.

social media just gives people too much access to celebrities. i saw people laughing about getting blocked by george for tweeting “funny” queen memes to him and calling him a tory twit for his queen tweet - and why wouldn’t he block you? he’s not obliged to put up with that because he’s “famous”.

George in particular is carrying a reputation of being very posh and ‘stuck up’ for no other reason than his accent and his clothing really, and I find that so disheartening. People are so quick to go and judge, even going as far as labeling him a Tory despite having zero proof of that. He’s just well spoken and his interviews might seem a bit ‘PR’ at times, but who could blame him? Look at people like Lando who talk first and think second and the amount of hate he gets for that as well.
So many people say he’s lost his personality after leaving Williams but driving for Merc is a big deal and he’s got a huge responsibility and he wants to do it justice, look at Valtteri and how much more of his personality (and bum) we see now that he’s at Alfa. It’s the nature of being in a huge team and the pressure that comes with it.
Point being is that people love to judge based on very little information which leads them to hate, completely ignoring how he’s the same guy who jumped out of his car to look after Zhou in Silverstone when he had his huge crash, for example. Of course there’s no need to like him but he surely doesn’t deserve the hate.

all i can say to this is

he basically sacrificed his own race to make sure the marshalls knew where zhou was! i think he just takes his job seriously, takes the media training seriously, and takes his image seriously. you’re right that they can never win: george is “too pr” whereas lando is then “too casual”. george is too much of a stickler for the rules, but then people complain about max being “dangerous” (which makes me mad, but that’s a whole other story )

like said above, i have the drivers i like and i really devote my time to them. i COULD be here writing an essay about how i think nico rosberg is the absolute worst, but why? i don’t get how many fans dedicate time to the drivers they apparently hate.

People cannot help how their voice sounds can they? He comes from King's Lynn not really posh. If he has elocution lessons on him voice, his choice.
Like most have said social media is vile atm. Considering the past fews days the amount of disrespect shown is disgusting. Unfortunately social media has changed many people. Manners have gone, please, thank you etc nope want this/that instantly and have the right to say what they want. Sad really.

Unfortunately social media has changed many people. Manners have gone, please, thank you etc nope want this/that instantly and have the right to say what they want. Sad really.

Miss the times when social media was lighthearted banter and appreciation of other people, rather than the opposite it’s become nowadays

Anyway - so Singapore next? Reckon Daniel needs a new engine after today? He’s one of the few who’ve not yet taken a penalty so figured he was due right about Singapore/Japan anyway.

Can I just say it’s so lovely to see so much sense being spoken on this thread tonight? I’ve been really disheartened over some of the stuff I’ve seen online regarding F1 the last week, including the other thread. It’s great to see some proper discussion that doesn’t involve ripping someone to shreds for something they can’t change or making up rumours.

I don’t envy these drivers at all. None of them signed up for this level of scrutiny and DTS made the sport’s popularity explode so quickly that they’ve had no time to adjust to the level of fame!

i just did! he’s had a really hard time of it, bless him i actually hope he isn’t in the car for singapore now, he needs time to fully recover - surgery is hard enough with being on a ventilator! hope he’s doing okay.

Poor Alex. That sounds frightening. I had my appendix out and ended up with an infected bowl so full surgery instead of key hole and was told 6 weeks before I could/ should drive and I drive a clio not an f1 car (Basically similar to c section). I’d be amazed if he’s back in two weeks. The flight and media work would be hard enough let alone getting in a car!
