I actually miss the old Eurovision and you don’t get to hear anyone getting nil points.

Sorry but I appear to have completely missed this, Celine was in Eurovision?

She sure was. Dublin 1988. Or as the youngsters apparently say, the late 1900s

The staging of Ireland's entry was superb.

I think the best song won, and it was great to see him kill it even without his nan's satellite dish.

Because it was a crap song and the staging was borderline pornographic for most countries.
It was just a shit song and a shit performance. The outfits were weird, the stage set up was weird (dirty bathroom as an aesthetic... really?) and it wasn't fun.

I love Olly and Years and Years but there is no conspiracy in relation to this, it was just really bad.

+1. nothing conspiracy or phobic about it, the entry was real just not good. The song even had potential, but the vocals were very bad and the staging didn’t help it either.
I also found the Greek entry quite bad, but I think the performance there saved it. Shame the same can’t be said about Olly.

I feel sorry for some of this year’s contestants- I know it can always be a bit political but this year has been insane. They must be waking up this morning thinking wtf, I think it will take a few of them a long time to process.

I think next year will be as hard to navigate. Do they ban Israel? Will Switzerland really want to pay €ms to host an event thats potentially a security risk. Who will want to represent their country after seeing how this years been handled? Well probably end up with Katie price at this rate

Another reminder that social media and the loud minority are not an accurate reflection of the world

Love that nobody came close to Käärija‘s points from the public last year he really should have won

My mum reminded me that Lordi’s Hard Rock Hallelujah was 18 years ago and now my back hurts

I like Olly but it was a bit George Michael throwback from 30 odd years (and years!) ago and came off kinda sleazy.

Considering Switzerland is neutral (mind you Irelandis also technicallyneutral), it's probably the best location!

A bit late to comment but...

I felt like there were to many acts that felt very similar this year, it felt like there were a lot of solo female singers surrounded by male dancers who just stalked around the stage in a sexy way. There were exceptions to that, but it felt like lots of songs that were very similar and only a few outliers that went for something different. The show can't help who enters, but I think it just was not as entertaining as normal.

Nemo seems a sweet person, I did think their costume was very silly though. I am not 100% sold on the song. The O O O sounds very ear wormy and there was some impressive singing, but I thought the lyrics were very clunky and basic in parts.

I think Ollie is getting a lot of slagging off in the media this morning, which is unfair. Lots of media outlets seem to be just concentrating on the 0 audience votes and not his judge votes, making people think he had 0 points and came last.

I thought that his staging was really interesting, very different to anything we have done before. I think that it wouldn't have gone over well with viewers as eurovision often has a more campy or silly/light tone when things are meant to be sexual, and this came across as rather raunchy compared to a lot of other acts. It was a good concept but not right for the show.

I am also wondering if it was conceived as a f-you to the the trope of sending boys to boxing to make them manly.

I was shocked that Estonia did so poorly. Maybe people just forgot about them.

Well done Switzerland. 🤍
I’m glad the public got behind Eden though she did really well and 5th is very good all considered. Nice results.

Yes! She won for Switzerland I had to google it too.
Now that I am getting old (40) I am really wishing I had seen Celine in vegas but now she is ill it won’t happen and I’m sad.

With Switzerland being expensive and the fallout from this years contest I wonder how many countries may miss out

I don't think people mind a little bit of sexy!! But I do think the dirty bathroom aesthetic probably put people off and the costumes looked torn, which was deliberate but just came across as if they were old and dirty. Plus people aren't big on crotch grabbing, surely there is a way to be sexy without that??

I think it just missed the mark on a number of fronts.

Yeah, I know I have been banging on about Estonia but I really can’t understand why they did so badly. They were far better than the whole top 10. I could understand perhaps them not winning but how they got so little votes is beyond me.

Wow! That celine video is amazing. She had the stage presence back in 1988! Had no idea.

Last time Ireland qualified, some eyebrows were raised but it was actually quite simply a love song. That's why I do think Olly was a bit try hard this year.

My love of studying French was largely down to Celine (I was 15 back then)

My morning after thoughts....

UK song was garbage - no way was what was shown on the BBC - LIVE - It felt too music videoy, and no way would they have had those other blokes 'sliding' about that boghouse set untethered due to elf n safety. It was also vile - I'm really broadminded but it was a tad too far in terms of content and would've offended even nations like the Italians/Spanish who are not averse to a bit of mild porn on the telly of an evening. Didn't think to flick on the old euro firestick to see what other broadcasts were showing for UK.

Cozzy Livs is real throughout EBUland - and starting to bite - the Swiss song was a bit tripe IMHO and the fact it pulled so many 12s from the jury side showed that no one wants EV next year on their patch as it just sucks money like fuck.

That Croatian ditty was a banger - the audience got on it, moreso than with any other tune. Croatia was robbed, mainly by the cozzy livs based jury vote.

I flicked the euro firestick on at one or two points and had a quick flick through other countries footage - telling was a few countries - mainly France didn't even have EV gracing their main channel (aka BBC 1) - it was relegated to the second channel - can't remember what was on the main French channel but it certainly wasn't EV. Same in a few others, who I forget. Again, it was down on the 2nd or 3rd channels.

I think they have to have a radical rethink on the format - the juries thing is outdated and bloody pointless - public vote is where its at - the building suspense nonsense needs to go - again, it an outdated TV thing. Modern audiences are more sophisticated than a couple of hosts blathering against 'tense' musak for x amount of time that slightly increases as you go up the board.
