He was a reserve
He almost gave up on music
He never sang live until february
They are all amateurs, the "oldest" person from the team is 32
They did everything themselves without any help and despite all the obstacles

Because it was a crap song and the staging was borderline pornographic for most countries.
It was just a shit song and a shit performance. The outfits were weird, the stage set up was weird (dirty bathroom as an aesthetic... really?) and it wasn't fun.

I love Olly and Years and Years but there is no conspiracy in relation to this, it was just really bad.

I think the problem is the UK rarely submits anyone who is 'likeable'. Sam Ryder did so well because his personality shone through, in all of his interviews he appeared genuinely pleasant and popular amongst the other contestants. I think he appeared legitimately happy and proud to be there, scrapping that image of the UK being embarrassed by even turning up. Very few other UK acts have been able to achieve that.

I think that charisma is much more important than any 'big name' we could submit!

Also, Sam was completely unironic about the whole thing. He looked like he was having the time of his life and was totally on board with Eurovision. He actually took it seriously. Whereas a lot of British acts come across as being a bit above it all, like Eurovision is beneath them or something. Even Olly gave the impression at times that, as an established act, he would just swoop in and wow everyone, like Eurovision was his for the taking. Audiences don’t like that.

Even olly saying he’s going to make the song the gayest ever was a bit condescending/patronising, as if that’s all he needed to do to win it. And it didn’t work…
Also, why does “gay” have to mean writhing around half-dressed in a filthy toilet? That’s a pretty unpleasant, and outdated, stereotype IMO.

I really liked Nemo but no one can convince me like 85% of juries think the same
And no one can convince me 3 months favourite gets only 2 12s
And no one can convince me he deserves so many zeros
... without some kind of agreement

And Israel televote score... no words

Gg Nemo, meow meow Baby Lasagna 😻

Got to laugh at Graham Norton being called a bigot and someone who ought to know better on twitter for saying "he's done it!!" after the Swiss bloke won. Someone even angrily saying that surely the non binary flag was a bit of a giveaway. Really? How many people do they really think have the first clue about what the non binary flag looks like. Load of childish nonsense.

Calling a man "he" just comes instinctively and these spoilt children just need to cope with that.

Sitting through this for 4 hours only to see the UK public give 12 points to Israel feels like a kick in the teeth…

Nemo seems sweet though, good for them. Bet Olly’s plane journey home will be a quiet one.

Very sad to see loads of homophobic/transphobic comments already under Nemo‘s performance video on the official site. That was to be expected but it’s still terrible. Anyway, free Palestine and peace to everyone!

TBH I do think Olly was always a bit “Emperor’s new clothes”. I never liked the way the founding members / songwriters of Years and Years were ditched so he could launch it as a solo project. It left a really bad taste for me, because those guys really were talented. I suppose it was the record company that pushed it, I guess those lads didn’t fit the “image”, being a bit geeky and all, but when they ditched them, the song quality dropped off a cliff.
And then when Olly rushed to the papers immediately after Sam Ryder very nearly won, to complain about how he (Olly) hadn’t been in the running for Eurovision. As if he would have won it, unlike sad failure Sam, or something. I thought at the time, really? - you’re choosing to do this now, like a spoilt brat at a party when another kid is getting more attention?
Then all the crowing about how he’d do the “gayest ever” Eurovision, as if this would mean he’d romp home with the trophy. He really did have high expectations of how he would do in the competition. Only to stage some grotty outdated cottaging scenario, with a feeble song, sung badly, and with staging that just didn’t have impact.
I’ve watched it back a few times, and it really was terrible. Borderline unwatchable. I know people who like him will say he didn’t deserve the nil public vote, but honestly, having watched all the acts, he was not better than anyone else.

Another reminder that social media and the loud minority are not an accurate reflection of the world 🥰
