Sorry, long rant(?) incoming...
"it [ADHD] has been affecting me for about a year and a half..."
As a woman with ADHD, who also got diagnosed recently, this is something that has affected my whole. entire. life. Since before *I* can even remember. Also, bit of an indescrepancy in her story, how can the amount of time that it's "been affecting you" be the same amount of time you've been "meaning to get diagnosed"?
She does show some of the signs tbh, so I'm not invalidating (or trying not to), but it felt a little like a kick in the teeth to hear the disorder that's dominated my life for 30 years, and many others, be reduced to a hyperfixation on stewing apples. She also seemed far too happy/excited about it and talked about it like it was some massive amazing thing. Of course diagnosis is a positive/relief generally, but personally my diagnosis has also caused me a lot of trauma (anger at how adults didn't consider it when I was a very spacy kid, the multiple misdiagnoses, seeing all of my symptoms listed on a diagnosis sheet, and ultimately realising this is a chronic condition that I'll be managing forever). I know a lot goes on behind the scenes, and she could also be feeling these things, but it's not just a fun quirky thing to offload randomly in a vlog, it's a very loaded topic and I wish she would have taken the time to formulate a proper, informative response to sharing her diagnosis that was more than just "oh yeah while I'm talking about my apple obsession...". It's fucking shameful, actually. Especially if she does have ADHD she's doing herself a massive disservice in the way that she has presented it in this vlog.
She's not obligated to of course but I hope she does a video on it at some point because I'd be interested to hear her story and if it was present in childhood. It's in the diagnostic criteria but as someone said, it's very easy to fake. If it has been her entire life, all power to her for getting the diagnosis, as it's a hard process.
P.S. I wonder if she ever caught wind of the fact that ADHD meds reduce your appetite and quite often make you lose weight. Just another layer of nuance to add to the conversation, given her history...
