My mum was my grandparents carers, they lived with my mum who was there 24/7, helping them get up, washed and dressed, cooking their meals, washing their clothes, dressing wounds, going to hospital to pick up prescriptions, picking them up in the night when they fell getting up to go to the loo and having to get ambulances when she couldn’t manage it. Having to arrange a few nights respite in a nursing home (and feeling guilty about it) because my mum was so exhausted herself, going from a size 12 to an 8 because she was run ragged (not that she begrudged it, I’d do the same in a heartbeat for my parents). She did it for love not picking up a minimal amount in benefits.
it’s not supposed to be easy money Emma and getting bad news whether it’s about yourself or someone else is never nice.
