Just caught up on the docu. If you had a preconceived idea about why Emily receives these kind of messages then why on earth do the secondary school girls receive them and what have they done?

I am so glad that a) I’m not a teenager growing up now with social media and b) that I don’t have a teenage daughter.

Considering that someone who wolf whistles is a form of sexual-harassment it’s incredible that this form of sexual harassment is completely ignored by the law!

I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one finding the victim blaming in this thread uncomfortable.

There really are not big leaps between cyber flashing > in person flashing > sexual assault. Cyber flashing is just more prevalent because it can be done anonymously and remotely. If a man (because it is always men) fails to see women as complete human beings whose consent you need to get then that is not the woman’s fault. There is no grey area here. Sending unsolicited explicit photos is a criminal offence.

Some of the messages she has shared on Instagram are truly disgusting. And from a married man with kids! It horrifies me to think of him around children.
I'm no fan of Emily but she doesn't deserve this filth.

Hope she exposed all of them that did post stuff. It's one thing posting a comment saying you think someone looks good but too many think it's okay to go all out because they can hide behind a screen. The best thing is the ones with kids would go mad if it happened to their daughters but think it's fine to send it to others.

Oh for Christ’s sake. Some of these comments are why men don’t get convicted of grape and serious sexual assault. It’s the same reason why loads of young girls got exploited because everyone assumed as girls they were asking for it. This is why we still have to say to women, we know some men are rajed, so don’t have a good time when you go out just incase. Ffs.
Most women share posts about ‘being kind’ or ‘girls supporting girls’ ‘straightening crowns’ and all that balls, but when it comes to a women reporting something around sex, we are still saying women ‘ask for it’, ‘because she’s wearing a bikini’ ‘coz she’s wearing a low cut top’. And if that woman is attractive, she especially can’t be upset by the attention, or there’s something dodge as to why it’s being discussed, as if only weird women can be upset at sexual assault because no one would expect anyone to go near them. I’m so angry at some of these comments. God help if any of you get on a bleeping jury.
You only have to read and hear what she is saying; in the past, that she learnt early on that being ‘sexually overt’ got her attention especially when other girls were having a go at her for having bits and stuff. How many women learnt that as a teenager if the girls don’t like you, the boys will. and how many of those girls did we all see at school and (much to my shame) laugh about, but wouldn’t be mates with ourselves, the ones with the boyfriend with the car? No one ever questioned why those boys got the vulnerable young pretty girls 🤷🏻‍♀️ and no girls ever gave those girls a chance to have girl mates, apart from them seeking similar girls to hang out with, the ‘slags’
And for those of us between the ladette era and things now, where ‘cool girl’ was the thing, with lads mags about etc. We had it drilled in to us, fit girls get love and she found it gave her what she needed. And that was so wrong.
But just because she is quite overt about her sexuality now, it doesn’t mean that she is asking for the things she gets sent. I mean, Sarah millican also talks about sex, but we don’t seem to be saying (if she got those messages) that she asks for it.
And despite the people here saying it doesn’t happen, look at any young influencers insta. It’s full of old men and oddballs commenting ‘so sexy, I’m single’. Just coz it’s open and it’s on a hash tag it doesn’t mean you have a right to comment. And just coz a women shared a snap where she feels good, then it doesn’t mean it’s open season.
Most importantly though, why aren’t women saying more of ‘who the duck sends grape threats over text, that’s not normal’ when women receive them from seemingly normal people. Coz if a bloke came into the workplace and started saying that out loud, we would all be concerned and people would be raising hell about the weirdo doing that. Even if it would never actually happen. Look at how local social media stories go, the apparently dodgy old man sat in the park etc, there tonnes of people calling out behaviours that don’t even happen and spreading crap about something innocent and people jump on the p bandwagon. I’ve had to tell my lovely kind dad not to talk to babies in the park when he takes his grandkids, because of people like that.
But seemingly, send grape threats over a phone or to a famous person and it’s ok? That’s mental point of view for people to hold. But yet reading this thread people obviously view things that way. And then we question why sexual exploitation is still happening now and we still have issues around women being grape beaten and killed by men- because women like some on this thread make it seem to men that we will still put up with it.

I was sexually harassed by a male leaner in my workplace. He made a filthy, lewd comment to me. My male colleagues are aware of this, and now they laugh and giggle with him when I am around and blank him. They are basically laughing at me with him, for blanking him. So they are giving him the message that his comment is acceptable, and I'm a psycho for blanking him. The bystanders are just as much a part of the problem as the aggressor is. As long as men validate other mens actions, this will continue.

Don’t think anyone was tone policing. No one has said ‘you can’t say that’ just remarked on the sadness and prevalence of it. and lots of us have clearly had a strong reaction to some people saying she asked for it. Emily Atack never asked random strangers to send her grape threats but it seems fair game to say that. Some people on here will have been victims of sexual assault, and if people are saying that she has brought it on by being her, then it’s only fair to dispel the myth that women cause themselves to be victims of assault, grape, indecent imagery etc.

This
Although I don’t agree with what she is going through she also doesn’t help herself
And my husband said it straight away why didn’t she block straight away
I know they make more accounts but continue to block block block as soon as messages come through not continue to allow them to message you leaving them on read

That’s all well and good saying block.I get the premise like but Would you want to spend half your day doing that? It does my head in getting a few dozen messages, can you imagine constant stuff alongside work messages and emails and actually being busy…..
And men who do this tit for fun like the chase of it, the persistence. She blocks one account, they make more. You can literally go to companies that make spam accounts for people. It’s like when abusive men buy Loads of tit ten quid sims to text their ex. Blocking doesn’t solve the issue.
I mean, For some, sure that one read might make them not bother coz she’s seen the horrendous fool, they can imagine she’s looking at it for ages. But when there’s loads of people wanting that…..
it feels like we have to go back to proper education in social media. People get called out for being rude in shops, people used to tell their grandparents how to use Facebook so they didn’t post on some random site and become a meme. Now we need to teach kids, lads especially that social media isn’t for threatening and abusing women. If they wouldn’t do it in the street and would kill anyone doing it to their wife, then why would they think it’s ok online???? And when you say that to young lads they are normally appalled but no one thinks it’s a priority

'Doesn't help herself' just invalidates everything you say. That is victim blaming.

I only watched half the documentary but the reaction of Seann Walsh when they were in the pub was just bizarre. I don’t like him (although I think the anger against him for snogging in a SCD dancer was way OTT), but he has something missing in him that he just laughs inappropriately. He was the same on I am a Celeb. Emily telling him and showing him the messages and pictures and he laughs hysterically. And when she goes on to say she has grape threats, the other guy looks more concerned, but Walsh laughs and says that is a bit strong. He’s a weirdo, one of her mates not giving a tit that his friend is being abused like that. Some friend. To a lot of people it is just a joke. Hope his baby (not sure if it is born yet) is not a girl.

She can block as much as she wants but It doesn't change the fact there are sick feckers out there who are doing this constantly. If it happened to a daughter, sister, aunt, friend.....I'm sure some people wouldn't be so dismissive.

Is the same Sean Walsh who admitted he was abusive to his ex when he cheated on her? That was why the anger came I think, because his girlfriend said he had proper tried to do a number on her mental health. Some wonder that was his reaction given he called his girlfriend a psycho and imagining something actually printed……and then to not give a crap when he’s meant to be in his redemption perfect man arc…..doesn’t look good.
But again, it’s that man thing, he no doubt doesn’t get fan pictures on insta daily and bits will be welcomed I bet.

I think she tried to make light of it as most women do tbf. If we was to give him a benefit of doubt, I think that's what most men would do because they don't understand and it makes them nervous. If that makes sense.

I don't agree with what he said to the ex but I think it's pretty common to tell the current gf that they are paranoid etc. Because its easier. I repeat I do not think that is okay behavior in the slightest.

I didn’t know if it was the same twatty Seann Walsh tbh, that’s why I was checking. I’m not down with all the love island kids, so didn’t know if there was another one a bit younger who did the whole insta/tinder thing and was jsut as bad 🙈 showing my uncool a bit there.
But yeah, it’s so common it’s unreal, but given the rep he had, I’m surprised she would choose him for it.

Sick of the tone policing and virtue signalling on this thread. If you want to hold people accountable hold the ones making the threats, the disgusting men sending her this stuff.

Turning your vitriol on posters on a gossip thread for something that is largely perpetrated by men is ridiculous. The same men who her whole image caters to. Emily Atack has based her whole career catering to the male gaze, that’s her entire shtick, no coincidence she is now actually aging out of that bracket and needs another thing to latch on to. Doesn’t mean she deserves the messages she gets, absolutely not. However I stand by what I said that she is absolutely loving the media attention around this Doc.
