I was going to write a post anyway as I think TT has taken it a bit on the extreme edge anyway
Here's what I remember from the livestream I watched, I'll say if anything is my opinion/how I viewed it in italics just to try and keep things factual:
- The kitten was rejected by the mother. She said that the litter was about 5 days old. Unknown whether it was rejected before the 5, or shortly before, day mark but I think it's safe to assume that it was in the morning or before noon as the livestream was at around 2 or 3PM (I made my first post about it while she was still live or soon after she had ended the live I think)
- They did apparently try to have the kitten latch onto the mother, though it wasn't shown when they tried on the live. They couldn't try with the other cat (her litter was a day old or so at that point) as she is apparently protective of her own kittens and that's part of the reason they weren't picking them up also. They also didn't want to try because they were scared that it could lead the cat to reject her own kittens, I don't remember if they said this was specifically mentioned by the vet
- The vet thing they kept coming back to and the info changed ever so slightly each time. Essentially, she said that she called the vets but they had no appointments and that her mother went out to get the supplies needed for feeding the kittens (syringes and cat milk) from them. Interestingly, she did not mention that she had made an appointment for another date or that the vets told her that the kitten needed an actual heat source (nor did she mention her mother getting this) or that she would need to stimulate peeing and pooing - kittens can't do this until they're a few weeks old by themselves. A lot of it was focused on how the vet specifically told Elphaba that she was responsible for looking after the kitten (or something to that effect), looking back at it it's definitely to make her look better and a bit narcissistic. I also simply don't think that she called the vets, Jack let it slip at one point that he had just Googled something too
- Jack mentioned numerous times that the feeding time for the kitten was coming up, Elphaba then responded that her mother would probably be back in time for it with all of the supplies. Of course, how they fed the kitten to begin with is unknown. A lot of the chat at the time was saying no cow milk but I did not hear her specifically say that this is what they were using. Numerous people, including me, asked her repeatedly how she had fed the kitten without having syringes or cat milk to begin with and she did not answer those questions which I found a bit concerning. It doesn't make a lot of sense from the timeline of events also (the kitten is rejected, [presumably here or somewhere after they called the vet they fed the kitten?] they call the vet and her mother goes to get supplies) or they did have some form of kitten milk (I'm thinking like ones they sell at Asda/Tesco/wherever) but they didn't buy enough which ??? huh.
Here's some other stuff:
- According to some TT comments Elphaba said that her mother cannot afford the vet suggesting that the kitten never saw the vet. She's now claiming that the kitten did see the vet - cannot confirm whether this was actually said because I've not seen any videos and it was not mentioned when I watched the live
- According to some TT comments the kitten was rejected because they were handling it too much - this appears to be a myth. Kittens get rejected because there's something wrong with them, as I'd understand Elphaba is now claiming for this to be the case :
- In the most recent clips of her talking about this she says that both her and Jack (they both said yes to feeding it every two hours and Jack said 'we') fed the kitten every two hours. I remember watching clips of her most recent live when I woke up and I couldn't make out whether she was home or at her mother's - if she was home, where was the kitten? Her lives also tend to last more than 2 hours and you'd think that someone would have taken a clip of her feeding the kitten? ALSO, I don't remember there being any clips of Jack (who seems to have a pretty strict night routine so might not wake up every two hours) or hearing his voice in any clips I watched. Of course, she could have fed it on her own. Someone might wanna check this whole thing out if they have the effort
My personal opinion is that they all
ducked up. Elphaba isn't the sole person to blame for this. It is her mother's cat that gave birth to said litter and the kitten presumably stayed at the mother's house, whether Elphaba was there the whole time who knows - when she announced the kitten's passing
she appeared to be at home rather than at her mother's and the crying would suggest that she also recently found out possibly. Rejected kittens are a ton of work around the clock and I simply don't think anyone responsible would trust Elphaba and Jack to do this alone
