I know it’s sad when animals die but I’m pretty sure the statistic is that at least one new kitten does pass, it’s certainly not uncommon anyway
She said the kitten was rejected at 5 days old so it’s not a newborn. Though they’re a ton of work - feeding very frequently and through the night in the correct position with the correct milk, providing heat (normally a heat source that isn’t just blankets is needed which they didn’t seem to know) and stimulating pooping/peeing
She apparently mentioned that they did not have kitten milk but that they have fed the kitten - Jack mentioned that the feeding time was coming up. It was then also mentioned that her mother had gone out to get syringes and the milk and would be back within the hour. Of course, the natural question is how did they feed the kitten without the most basic necessities for feeding to begin with? Why did it take until 1-2 PM for them to respond to the problem in general as it sounded like the kitten was rejected at the latest in the morning
I can only hope that the mother’s love of cats is a positive in this case. I do think anyone competent could probably manage to look after a kitten with some research that isn’t surface level
The problem is very much that instead of just being honest and saying that they hadn’t sought the advice of a vet for x or y reason Elphaba sat there and made it up as the stream went along and questions were asked. People only noticed because the information was changing ever so slightly and that she didn’t seem to keep track of what she was saying making the story not add up. She was far more interested in using this poor kitten for views/her image than anything else
Also, because people were discussing how they’re going to manage looking after a dog, it sounded like they were planning on keeping a kitten or two from the litter for themselves. Whether that will happen who knows. Of course, I can only hope they don’t remove said kittens too early from their mother. At least cats are slightly less work than dogs but I do still question how that’s going to work with everything else
