I loved it even though it was black and white Soames was brilliant, wish they made tv like that again instead of reality rubbish that is on now, but that would be wishful thinking.
I'll give it a go...will let you know how it goes. Thanks for recommendation!

My parents enjoyed the Old Mother Riley films with Arthur Lucan and Kitty McShane, which were repeated at cinemas in the 50s/60s. Not much on Youtube other than a few short clips. I believe Talking Pictures shows them periodically. It may have partly inspired Mrs Brown (which I hate)

You'd love Billy Liar ( if you don't already!)

Another great film is This is My Street, starring June Ritchie and a very young John Hurt, based on the novel of the same name written by Nan Maynard, a very prolific author now sadly out of print. Those of you who like kitchen sink dramas would devour her books - if you see any second hand, I'd urge you to buy
Awwww Thankyou Jerry.

In a way, she kind of did - there's the Bond spoof "Casino Royale", which features her singing "The Look Of Love".

Sad how insecure she was about her singing voice.

Someone I used to know through work had an uncle who was a promoter in the 60's.

Apparently, they loathed Dusty as she canceled a tour at the last minute and never rescheduled leaving them severely out of pocket.

Glynis Johns the darling of 1940s and 50s British cinema is probably a good one to flag up on here. She is 99 now.

"In 2016, with the death of Zsa Zsa Gabor, Johns became the oldest living Batman cast member. With the death of Dame Olivia de Havilland in 2020, she became the oldest living Academy Award nominee in any acting category. Similarly, Johns is currently the oldest living Disney Legend, having been honoured in 1998."
With the loss of Sylvia Syms a few weeks ago, what other 40s and 50s British Cinema stars are still alive? I can only immediately think of Petula Clark but there must be others.

Has anyone read Noel Coward's diaries?
Their life together is really hideous and here they are trapped by public acclaim, scrabbling about in the cold ashes of a physical passion that burnt itself out years ago. If only the Oliviers could continue to be together as far as the public is concerned, and yet live separately and sleep separately. If only Vivien could hold out until this season finishes in November and then set her career in a different channel from Larry's. However good she is, she will never be accepted in the big tragic roles. She should develop along her own lines and become a witty, light comedienne, which she could do better than anyone I can think of.

The Olivier situation is worsening by the hour. Graham and I drove down to Stratford with Cecil Tennant on Tuesday. Larry was wonderful although, at moments, a little funny. Vivien was frankly not very good.

Vivien was in a vile temper and perfectly idiotic. Larry was bowed down with grief and despair and altogether it was a gloomy little visit.

Personally I think that if Larry had turned sharply on Vivien years ago and given her a clip in the chops, he would have been spared a mint of trouble. The seat of all this misery is our old friend, feminine ego. She is, and has been, thoroughly spoiled. She also has a sharp tongue and a bad temper. This, coupled with incipient tb and an inner certainty that she can never be as good an artist as Larry, however much she tries, has bubbled up in her and driven her onto the borderline. Fond as I am of her and sorry as I feel for her, I would like to give her a good belting, although now I fear it might push her over the edge and be far, far too late.

Dolly and Mrs Moon, if you haven't already, you must see Theatre of Blood. It's the best thing Vincent ever did, he has been quoted many times himself as saying it was his personal favourite of his own work
Yes,I see it many moon ago at the cinema when it came out also they have shown it on Tv,Dr Phibes as well, they used to show a few really good horror films on the Telly few years ago.I love Theatre of Blood though.

Thank you for doing this.

I don’t remember her, not quite that old, but remember reading a few articles about her.

Not sure why, but the Mail link does not open. So trying this Express one.
Are you sure? It worked for me. I'd never heard of Sabrina! Here's a clip.
