This isn’t just aimed at my current job but with every job I’ve had I’ve always felt like it’s an inconvenience, as though it’s getting in the way of me doing something else. Not sure if this makes sense or if it’s just me but I can never ‘settle’ or get into a routine of getting up, getting ready and going to work because it feels like I should be elsewhere. Even though I have nowhere else to be because I need to go to work to earn a living😂. Kinda like I’m constantly waiting for the weekend to have some free time to do the things that my mind seems to think I should be doing during the week.. It could even be mundane things like cleaning the kitchen. In my head I’m annoyed that I have to go to work because that’s stopping me from being able to clean the kitchen that day lol.

Bit of a pointless rant really but I’m having one of those days where I’m annoyed that I’m at work because there’s a million other things I could be doing at home right now🤣
It sucks doesn't it 😂 I just feel like the amount of time spent at work Vs other things is so much higher as well. The work life balance is just not right. 5 days working 2 days weekend, ugh does not make sense.

Also I wish I was one of those people that treat work very seriously, are passionate about it and proud about the work they do but it's just not me. I guess it depends on the job, there are jobs where people can make a difference, but my job feels like a lot of bullshit and paper pushing, I just can't treat it seriously. Just want to get it done and finish for the day, can't deal with networking, putting extra hours, and corporate speak

I don't hate my job, the work is actually interesting and although it can be stressful at times the workload is fine. My boss is awful, he has no manners, he's rude and quite frankly I'm now at the point where I can't stand him. I'll come in and say "Morning", he won't even acknowledge I've spoken or reply. He never uses his manners, he'll simply drop tasks on my desk, tap the files and walk away expecting me to know what to do. He's lazy, he'll forward me emails and just put "print attachments". No please, thank you etc. In the time he's taken to forward it, he could have printed himself. He's miserable, he makes me feel like he hates me just because he barely acknowledges me. It's lonely as we're a tiny office and I might as well be on my own most of the time. Sometimes, aside from answering the phone to clients, I can go a whole day without saying a single word. I feel so uncomfortable and on edge around him that sometimes I'll just go and stand in the toilets and cry.

He called me a "petty idiot" the other day because I found something that HE didn't open his eyes properly to look for. It's not on.

I've put up with it for so long but now I've finally decided I've got to just leave. He's never going to change and no job is worth sacrificing your mental health. This is my dream sector to be working in, but I'm now at the point where I'm willing to get any job just to get away. If I didn't have a mortgage to pay I'd walk out of here tonight and never come back.

I’ve recently returned to my job after almost 3 months off due to a bereavement. I had a very tough year trying to balance work with looking after my dad who had dementia and then Covid before he passed away. I work from home in an IT project role and this has been my first week back. Although my organisation is understanding and I get all the right messaging from above about “taking it easy” etc I feel the expectations and the workload have ramped straight back up to where they were before and I already feel so stressed and anxious. I’ve never loved what I do and tried unsuccessfully to change career in the past. But now I’m struggling with all kinds of thoughts - pain and loss and guilt in my personal life, plus I’m questioning WTF am I doing with my life, struggling in a job I don’t care about. And on the other hand I know I’m lucky to have a job in the current climate. I don’t know if I have the energy to start looking for a new career but feel I want to take a step away from being “in my head” all day and do something more worthwhile. I’ve had a week of pointless meetings and really want to shout WHO FUCKING CARES in every single one. Sitting here at 3am dreading having to switch on my laptop again in a few hours...

I left my previous job of 8 years to join another organisation 4 months ago. Regretting the decision now.

I came in as part of a huge restructure so the few remaining staff are bitter about it as they are in roles they don't want. The culture isn't empowering and a lot of blame gets shot around, especially via email. My workload is massive but I have zero motivation to work hard as the culture is so toxic and negative regardless of how hard anyone tries 😔

I think I'm going to stick it out for another year, try to get pregnant and then have a year off mat leave. Then will find another role after that 🤷‍♀️

You are a unit of work to an employer. Don’t stress out about it. They wouldn’t if they had to get rid of you.
I know. That's what my partner says to me all the time. They wouldn't think twice about getting rid of you. I don't know why I care so much about their feelings.

Thanks guys! I did it last night!!! Thankfully my boss isn't in today, so I don't need to hide my guilty looking face! lol
just wanted to drop in and say hi! Closing date for this job is today, so hoping to hear something soon. I’ve also applied for 2 others that I really fancy.
I had a bit of a breakdown last week, and finally admitted my mental health isn’t good. I’m on antidepressants now and I am absolutely sure my job is a large part of the cause.
I need to get out. X

Pattern of headaches when I’m working. I’d been complaining on and off for weeks but only when I took time off for holidays and the headaches stopped and now are returning one week back I’ve jointed the dots.
I hate it. The job not even the people. It’s relentless and I feel I have to be switched on all the time like a performing seal. I could walk out but I don’t know if we could afford to be down my money (approx 1200 per month) for a prolonged period of time
Problem is I don’t know where to start. I need out of the industry but have never done anything else and have no idea where to start.

Still hate it btw. I've been applying for jobs that I would want to do and enjoy but without any joy. I don't want to go from one dreaded job to another and it's just not working out.

Another sleepless night due to hating my job. I have a zoom call with my manager today and I’m this close to handing in my notice, although I haven’t made my weekly target so I think I’m close to being let go anyway.
Ive only been in this job for a month and it’s my biggest regret.

Another Quiet Quitter here! I like that this is a thing.

I am not a career-orientated person at all, yet there seems to be a stigma around not being so. In the words of Peter from Office Space: It’s not that I’m lazy, it’s that I just don’t care. And it’s exhausting trying to look like you do. I’m in it for the money, not fulfilment or growth or whatever other buzzwords are being tossed around.

This reminds me - this internet-famous tale is one of the best things I’ve ever read, and my dream: https://sites.google.com/site/forgottenemployee/

Finding this thread couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m feeling so miserable and stuck, I dread every single day and it’s affecting my health and mental well-being.

Long story short, I got moved teams and dislike my nee role and manager and have lost all motivation. The company is full of misogynists and people who won’t accept any work/life balance. I’ve been forced to work in the office the whole way through Covid dealing with some pretty tough conditions from both that and Brexit combined and honestly thing I’m burnt out. My new manager is not impressed with where I am in my learning compared to others in different teams with different experiences and had a pretty brutal meeting about it where he just listed all the things I’m not meeting his expectations on. Majority of which I think are a bit of a joke considering I’m near enough being forced into the office all the time and he wouldn’t know what work I was doing or not as he’s never about for support.

The only thing is the pay is good but I’m now at the point where I don’t think the physical and mental strain is worth it. My hair is falling out, I have endless sleep problems and I wake up every day depressed about work. I have no motivation to do anything outside or work and just want to lie around indoors. Unfortunately I’m in the process of buying a house and regretfully now went for a new build which is delayed. I always hear how you can’t leave your job whilst waiting for mortgages to be confirmed but I really don’t think I can stick it out until next May (that’s if there’s no more delays!). The only hope would be trying to find a job on similar pay and praying the mortgage company would continue with it but I think that will be a bit of a stretch to be honest as I’d want to change roles completely.

Just wanted to rant really and read stories of others in similar positions so I know it’s not just me spending endless days crying and hating working!

Hope you all find positive solutions soon.

Today was my last day in the job that has made me unhappy for the last few years. I'm so glad I took the plunge six weeks ago and decided enough was enough. I have gone from self employed to unemployed but my mental health has massively improved since I decided to quit, so I have no regrets. I plan to have a month off as in the last 10 years I've barely taken any time off work, just to be at home, and I will look for something new in the new year.

I'm in a fortunate position that I can afford to do this but to be honest I was at breaking point, so even if I couldn't, it needed to happen or else I would have had to be off with stress.

I love what I do but hate the company I do it for. I definitely don’t do a minimum wage job, but I’ve been on minimum wage for 6 years. I’m the one in the company everyone comes to for help with the job including my boss yet I’m the only one on minimum wage. Someone who constantly asks me how to do his job is on over double what I am. I’ve tried speaking to my boss and got some bs about how wages are based on experience… What’s my 6 years then?

I’m getting to that ambivalent stage with my job now. A boss who lives to divide and conquer is no fun 🙄 What a sad little life, Jane! 🤣 I’ve been applying to some interesting roles and it’s keeping my spirits up. Even if I don’t hear back it’s nice knowing there are places I could thrive in. I hope everyone who is hating their job can move on to pastures new 🙏🏻

I'm often sitting on the "other side" of the table, meaning that I interview candidates and my company indeed runs multiple interviews per person. It seems ridiculous to the outside and is obviously an expensive thing to do, but it has major benefits as well. The chances that you hire someone that doesn't fit are greatly reduced that way, plus you can assess whether the person would be a great fit for the company, but maybe not for the job they applied for. You have fewer people you need to let go of while on probation (major cost sink, you spend time onboarding but have no output...). But it is a luxury that only bigger companies can afford. It has good and bad sides to do it like that.

Hearing though that someone is put through the paces and did well, only to then hear that they actually didn't have a position? Major No-go! I'd actually ask whether they can refund at least travel time or something like money you had to spend on fuel.
I really appreciate hearing the other side of the coin. I can understand multiple rounds of interviews to make sure both the candidate and the company are comfortable with each other, but what's described above is insane. It was multiple interviews, tests and then a presentation in 1.5 days (to paraphrase the poster)...I mean, that's an enormous amount of pressure and stress. Why push someone to fatigue like this when you could spread it out over several days and give them time to regroup/ think. Nobody would perform well at the end of that.
I understand they want to see people "under pressure" but you're already seeing them under pressure as interviewing is anxiety-inducing in most. It just feels excessive to me. Especially if the person interviewing is in dire need of a job, this is a quick way to break their spirits (putting them through all that and then not hiring them). I've been there and it crushed me. They probably knew early on that they didn't want me but put me through a battery of tests anyway. It was awful to feel like my time and energy had been wasted.
Sorry to go off on a tangent.

I did hate my job but since Covid been working at home, so much freedom, start and finish when I want so long as I work the hours I am paid for. Home working has it pros and cons which most know but not seeing anyone was hard to start with and not actually leaving the house every day and the commute weird. Can be lonely but also peaceful. Get some music on!
I don't think I have really even liked a job I've done, like bits, some of the people I worked with, but not all of them. Office life is one bitch fest but guilty as charged as it just becomes the norm sadly.
I do get annoyed with people who "just get another job" not that easy atm.

I used to HATE my job with a passion. I ended up in counselling because I was so unhappy. I was lucky enough to start a new job last January so got out at the right time (before covid) and although my job is a lot harder, it’s actually enjoyable. I feel valued and it’s rewarding.
Being in a job you hate affects your personal life as well as professional.
I hope you manage to find something else that you really enjoy.

No job should ever make you ill! If it’s impacting your mental well-being please look for other roles/get out as it likely won’t improve, no matter how you try to rationalise it.

Also don’t blame yourself - we don’t blame plants for not blooming we look at the environment & people around it, not the flower itself! ❤
