I just use my phone internet for anything personal when on my lunch break. I just don't trust work PCs for anything personal. I don't even log onto my gmail at work, just on my phone. Tattle, also on my phone when it's quiet and noone is looking 😂 I get my work done though.

No no no duck that bullshit. They cannot tell you IF you're allowed to post!

They have some degree of infuence when it comes to what you post PUBLICLY about the company, but that's it.

They have no right to completely curbe your social media actions. You are a private citizen after work, and there is an expectation of privacy for your free time. They do not own you!

I'd look for a new job and make them fire you, then take this to an employment tribunal.

CYA - get your manager(s) to admit, in writing, what they're doing. If they talk to you about it, send an email - something like:

"Hi, just to confirm I got our conversation right:

- expectation 1
- expectation 2
- etc.

Please let me know if I have anything wrong."

And then you screenshot that tit, upload it to the cloud and also forward yourself the email thread

COVER YOUR ASS, right now.
This, really, is the only thing you have to do right now. something isn't right there and apparently you are being made the scapegoat for it. They cannot tell you whether you are allowed to post or not and with who to take collabs... Employment court sounds about right but that often takes ages. Start looking for something new now, if you get lucky, they'll fire you and you can try to claim damages from them because they didn't "allow you" to earn money with you SM business.

The guidance on what social media policies can and can't be is sketchy atm. If you're registered with a professional body in any way, I'd be very careful and I'd consider just getting rid of it completely. It's not worth the hassle.

I nearly lost my job a few years ago because someone complained to my work place about my social media (similar to @LifeOfMog a lot of my posts were about how to get into my profession). There was nothing on there that I wouldn't post again and absolutely nothing that was related to a real person I'd interacted with at work but they'd read between some very weird lines and decided that I was targeting them and their family directly. Even though I'd never met them and they lived in a different country to me I ended up with a disciplinary. Employers will look for any excuse to get rid of you if they think you're bringing their name into disrepute whether that's correct or not.

Jesus christ that sounds ridiculous!! Are you still there or did you leave?!

Also, while this thread is a bit active, what does everyone do / what industry do you work in? I'm looking to switch up from construction, but unfortunately money places a huge advocate in leaving my current role :(

I'm a Product Manager in Tech, have been in the industry since 2015, but in different positions and companies. Pay is good, but depending on company the competitiveness can really get to you, because so many people are in it, pushing into it and try to get to higher roles, etc

I’m in consulting/ M&A since 2014, pay is good but very stressful at times. Work life balance is tricky. Flexibility is great (they don’t care from where or when I work as long as things get done). in the meantime I had 2 kids and went part time a few years back but feel like I’m still adapting, lots of late nights once the kids are in bed but I do enjoy the work itself especially since I changed companies a while back. I hated it before, super toxic environment

Depends on what logging they've set up. But yeah, tattle is fine, it's not illegal, simply social media.

Honestly, back up your emails, forwards anything that is related to your conflict to your private email, take screenshots (full screen where you can see the date / have a website open with the date & time at the side). Clean up any files that have nothing to do with work.

Developer. Pay is good and the field is still wide open for Senior Devs like myself - as a junior it will be a lot harder, but if you specialise in any of the current buzzwords / frameworks it's still really worth it money wise.

My work have a policy that states they can see what sites you have been looking at if you use the work wifi on a personal device. I know the IT guy and he is chill so it would never actually happen but thought I'd mention it in case. I never use the work wifi on the office on my phone!

Exactly, I use my phone data for checking my emails and tattle during my breaks.

I find it funny how workplaces can check what you're looking at and all that, I do believe they can, but then you'll always have a colleague taking the absolute mick and they never seem to get pulled up 🤣

Honestly we have some people here who I know full well do not get anything done - I ask them to do bits for me when I need them asap, it'll get to 4pm when I need to leave and they wouldn't have even read my email ...

I have been looking at new roles in marketing and advertising, as well as tech roles as I think this is where one of my biggest passions lay so fingers crossed I find something with a hefty pay pack and remote working <3

Fingers crossed for you! Also just wanted to say, I'd never heard of Otta until you mentioned it in a previous post. I decided to just have a little browse and I've actually found a dream job for myself!! I'm not 100% qualified for it, but it does say even if you're not you can still apply as it's about the person and the fit for the company. So, gonna go ahead and apply but wanted to thank you for the recommendation 😊
