Back in her early youtube days she seemed talented and sweet, but now... what does she do all day? Is she still part of a band? I unfollowed her about 3 years ago when she kept oversharing.
All she does all day is get high and think of ways to tell people she gets high.
Y'know, like all grounded people in their thirties do.
how did you guys feel about her "dear 30 yr old me" response video? i know this is super parasocial, but i can't help but feel a bit disappointed.
i stopped following her a very long time ago, mostly watched her around 2015 and then well, im an adult with a job, so i stopped keeping up with youtubers, nothing personal.
and 5 years ago i tuned in to watch her response to "dear 25 yr old me" and it made me all emotional bc we're about the same age. and yeah, say what you want about cringe, but that's what being in your early twenties is like.
and in this new video idk, she just comes off as very unlikeable, complete opposite of her past self i could relate to all those years ago. yes, looking at your old videos is definitely cringe for everyone, but she was just so dismissive and pretentious and just overall unfriendly. i went to her instagram too and it was like woww what the hell is her life now. what happened?
like okay, artsy people don't have your regular 9 to 5 lifestyles. and im definitely being parasocial. but idk, seeing someone you admired as a teenager become the total opposite of what you liked about them is a bit of a shock.

I haven't watched the video but seen some of her recent posts and yeh, it's like she's ruining her life.
I also think she must have some deep issues that need support.I agree. I found the comparison jarring. 25-year-old Dodie seemed so earnest and sincere. 30-year-old Dodie just feels like she’s trying to hard to appeal to Gen Z/alpha with an “I don’t care” attitude
I'm really glad she's finally giving antidepressants a chance and they're working for her.
This is so petty of me though - I can't help but be annoyed thinking of her years and years romanticising her depression and saying she couldn't medicate because she needed to be crying every two seconds to create (wildly paraphrasing). It was so harmful and tbh one of the main things that led me here.

at least before, even if her 25yr old video was cringe, at least it was her authentic cringe. now she has the tiktok accent and all those chronically online gen z mannerisms.
You should never be dismissive of your former selves, they got you where you are today. For someone that preaches about keeping your inner child alive she surely feels the need to mask them to pertain to others. It reeks of insecurity, not growth.
Chronically online to me is starting to equal turning your back on being an authentic human, and robit devoid of feelings. Any experience is to be felt and looked at from an outside perspective. Her mindset now is not "how does this make me feel" it's "does this make me look cool online"

hard to believe this is a woman in her 30's. Do her friends not take her aside and tell her to get a grip?
One thing that really bothers me about Dodie is that she supposedly has a chronic depersonalisation disorder, and is even a patron(?) for the charity Unreal about it. But then in the next breath she’s doing all these drugs and advocating for them to others, particularly weed, which is a known cause of depersonalisation disorder?! They should probably be vetting the people who work for the charity more since she is really not a good example…
