I found my way here a few weeks ago to follow the thread on Harry and Meghan although I did drop by when the PS thing exploded. DS and Tattle are completely different forums. I frequently see comments that make me laugh from people with a vicious wit but there is very little friction between posters on here. DS was a cesspit and I was finding less and less to make me want to engage. Having a look at this thread and seeing some comments about posters that are recognisable from DS has also kept me entertained. I do find it odd how invested people get in a forum that is full of people you wouldn't ever recognise in the RW, bizarre.

Have to say I feel a bit sorry for Occy. He has depression and anxiety problems. He gets a lot of hate but is pretty inoffensive from what I’ve seen. He just starts lots of random threads.

I’ve never understood the level of criticism directed at Occy either. Personally his contributions never really bothered me, though I can see why some may find him perhaps mildly (only very mildly) irritating. But still, he was harmless. Much, much worse people on DS. In fact Occy I don’t think even scores at all on a 1-10 of troublemakers/nastiness/problematic.

Mind you, the Lego fetish guy did my head in and I did end up blocking him in the end!

I don't mind people having opinions that differ to mine. That is your right, and I respect that.

What I do mind is people telling me my opinion is wrong because they say so. With the host of names thrown at you for expressing a differing opinion:

'Gammon', 'Racist', 'Xenophobe', 'bigot', to name a few.

That isn't free discussion at all. It is someone else forcing you to agree with their POV by any ways and means possible.

Monalisa62003 is a very unpleasant person who you should not be fooled by. If you crossed her on the forums she would magically be able to locate you on Twitter or Facebook and would start harassing you. She was banned for causing all kinds of shit but then when the mods allowed all previous bannings to be lifted she was able to get back on. I can't say if she has learned lessons since but back in the day she was a horror. I even think the BBC intervened at some point because she had been harassing cast and crew of Eastenders.

I'd like to see her try those tactics with me.

I'm not on Twitter or Facebook.

The best day on DS must have been Brexit vote day even at 10pm the usuals were declaring they had won and we were staying in the EU the next day was DS gold in the politics forum also that the last election would be a hung parliament and Corbyn would team up with Nicola and rule the country.

Does anyone remember the thread where the lefties were counting the number of people dying so that the EU vote would be no longer valid and working out that everytime an old person died a young person would automatically Labour voters and no one changes their mind as they get older anymore.

Some EU lovers still act all smug and superior and claim intellectual and mental superiority over vote leavers anyway.

I do remember after the 2019 election, there was a lot of Tory supporters although to be fair that was probably to be expected at that time given the election results.

The reason they disappeared was because they were mainly banned, due to the constant relentless and unnecessary reporting by the usual suspects.

I just couldn’t understand why the mods let a relatively small number of people create so many problems on there. And quelle surprise at who got Tellystar banned...I’ve never known anyone to get so many people banned singlehandedly. Well she can bloody well stay in that forum all by herself then!

She was on DS yesterday having a victim party with James - both serial reporters and not giving a shit who they got banned or insulted and both now trying to make out how misunderstood they are and how it was everyone else and how nice they are. She even brought up how she was followed around the forums by 'the pack' even though she was the one who kept responding to posts made by the people she so say was trying to keep away from and kept on commenting until they got so fed up with her that they responded and she then played the victim and reported them resulting in all the posts getting removed so there was no record of what she had been doing to instigate the issue. She's also trying to say how she was trying to be nice by wishing my mum a happy birthday but it was in vain - it was a nice gesture and was appreciated but what she fails to mention is that I thanked her for her best wishes and we exchanged pleasantries about nice things to do for someone's birthday. What made it in vain is that she then reverts to form and carries on as normal - one swallow doesn't make a summer! There doesn't seem to be any awareness of how they actually come across even though you would think they would wonder why they fall out with so many other forum members - it can't always be down to everyone else.

Exactly, there is a list of mods most woke disciples and they essentially run the forum, and act as eyes and ears at ground level. The mods then hand out bans to anyone without actually knowing why. Which is why they ignore any evidence that shows they are wrong. I don't think the mods have seen life for 20 odd years, they have spent that time. in their parents back bedroom they just hang around waiting for one to report someone

Oh, don't worry, the mods at DS have said that "gammon" is perfectly acceptable. It must be true then.

I just don't see how it isn't a hate word. It is said with hatred, bile and is intended as a hefty insult.

It's a shame. I've been on the DS Forums for 9 years this very month and I've come across many decent posters on there.

But like many others, I've not been very pleased with the direction that the forums have taken these past years (particularly since the EU ref).

Like many others, I've felt the Politics forum in particular had become a vipers nest of one-sided opinion and hyper-wokeness - where anyone who voted Leave or votes Tory got shouted down as a "gammon" (I say this as someone who has done neither). The double standards with the moderation didn't help either.

And the GD forum wasn't much better at times! I dared to defend the concept of free speech and to show concern about cancel culture in a thread (including the right of people to express views which myself and others may find offensive) and the GD clique, headed up by Lucy Van Pelt and Boo Radley75 in this instance, ganged up on me with some very personal insults and then made sure I got a temporary ban. All for defending someone else's right to free speech, despite not personally agreeing with their opinion!

So after that slap in the face last June, I'd mostly stayed away from DS GD and Politics ever since. I think it's outrageous the way the DS mods silence anyone who doesn't read from the same script.

I've kept my account over there open incase the suits upstairs see sense.

They did a job that was long overdue, they shut down the nasty morons who'd taken over the site, a great move for DS losing that vile pack but not good news for the sites that they are now invading such as AV and to a lesser degree here...we bite back here and the mods here ain't a bunch of woke clones who will allow the rot to spread here like it did on DS.

Straker. The aging 'Mr cool' of the 80's, whom once worked in the music industry designing album covers. Because of this past glory, it made him feel superior and more special than everyone else. He clearly loved the sound of his own voice, then again so do many who have been involved with the music industry.

Suprised he didn't get a job with Thames Water. His mouth was like a sewer, with foul mouthed tirades and belittling posts by female members.

I just Googled the restaurant that Tanya posted. It is in Knightsbridge, London. No doubt she goes in there after a trip to Harrods.

Was in that restaurant years ago. If I remember right I had tea and a slice of cake. Or as Tanya would put it I enjoyed a pot of Les Constructeurs tea and a selection from the patisserie menu.

Let us be clear. DS Politics is not left leaning, it is uber left leaning.

I've seen moderate lifelong Labour members labeled 'far right' by some of the numpties in the politics section, for not agreeing with the uber left mantra.

What I also laugh at is the numerous posts in the politics section about 'How can Labour win the 2024 election'.

Stop demonising those they don't agree with, would be a good starting point.

How on earth do they think the 'red wall' will be won back, when many of them are happy to continue throwing around the 'traitor', 'gammon', 'racist and 'bigoted' tag lines towards those very people.

I’ve got to agree with that. Their definition of views seemed to either Corbyn or “far right” with no ground in between, where I think the bulk of the population lie. To liken Boris Johnson to the Nazi’s, which I’ve seen done, was just [] .

To those of us who ever saw the early 80s sitcom The Young Ones there was a character called Rick who called everyone a fascist, and saw himself as The People’s Poet. Well that’s how I see people like CRM. And the point is Rick was supposed to be a grotesque parody.
