Half of the problem with DS, is that it grew too big. You had many different subjects with there own sub sections, each dedicated to different things.

Mesotim. Yes

The others, again I can't say I've really encountered them.

My list was more on a personal level. Those I've had encounters with.

Apologies. I got you mixed up with the other Amelia. 😁
is there anyway of PM'ing on here :D

You can add andykn from that EU-AZ vaccine thread to that list. Spent the entire thread refusing to budge, constantly asking for links to anything he disagreed with - and never read any of them or acknowledged them, because they all factually refuted every lie he regurgitated.

It was at times like that when DS desperately needed a chunk of moderator/users who could just spend time chilling on the forums and help maintain a better environment pro-actively. They could chime in and tell individuals they need to sort themselves out - perhaps dish out the occasional temporary thread ban till they got the message, etc.

So many endless threads were allowed to get taken over by one-eyed trolls. But the mods were only ever interested in responding to alerts against people who broke arbitrary rules - and it was often decent forum members who were just getting exasperated with the 'thread destroyers' who ended up getting warnings.

DS is probably the best example I've ever known of how NOT to moderate an internet forum.
Oh god Andykn. He was the massive anti semite who refused to believe any of the claims made against Labour and even went as far as to say Kier Starmer was being paid by Israeli forces to purge the left. All posts despite being racist and libel are still there to view, say something like ' I can see JK Rowlings point; and you get an instant perm ban, There was no consistency with the moderation at times.

I don't mind people having opinions that differ to mine. That is your right, and I respect that.

What I do mind is people telling me my opinion is wrong because they say so. With the host of names thrown at you for expressing a differing opinion:

'Gammon', 'Racist', 'Xenophobe', 'bigot', to name a few.

That isn't free discussion at all. It is someone else forcing you to agree with their POV by any ways and means possible.

I'd like to see her try those tactics with me.

I'm not on Twitter or Facebook. 🤣

(Two other sites that are as toxic as DS Politics.)
Amen to that Ingress

Monalisa62003 is a very unpleasant person who you should not be fooled by. If you crossed her on the forums she would magically be able to locate you on Twitter or Facebook and would start harassing you. She was banned for causing all kinds of tit but then when the mods allowed all previous bannings to be lifted she was able to get back on. I can't say if she has learned lessons since but back in the day she was a horror. I even think the BBC intervened at some point because she had been harassing cast and crew of Eastenders.
Yes she was actually arrested.

It was incredibly freaky how if you argued with her on the forum she would then suddenly pop up on your Twitter time line spouting abuse.

I hate the word 'Gammon.' Really hate it. Not that keen on the meat let alone its use as an insult by backslapping, smug idiots who think they are our intellectual and political saviours.
Not sure how DS ever allowed this to be used as a tool of hate against posters, it should have been outlawed when James2001 and co started using it.

You can have a quick look. You don't have to join but you can read all the posts on the hello thread.

It is supposed to be a dig at white middle aged people who voted for Brexit.

It could be classed as racist, as they also use that term against ethnic minorities who voted for brexit too. There is simply no distinction in their blinkered view.

According to some on DS, ALL people who voted for Brexit were white 'Little Englanders'. It clearly hasn't occurred to them they are also insulting a large number of black and Asian people (particularly in the Midlands and North) whom also voted for Brexit.

Can you see the contradiction in their views?

Well happily kneel for you for BLM. On the other hand we have no issues insulting you for voting Brexit (even if it is indirectly).

I've thought of a name to describe all of the lost souls who are now moving onto other GD forums

I call it 'The Scattering'

Named so after an Event in the Dune series.

For some of them, 'The Pebbledashing' would be more appropriate. I've never bothered with Twatter or Facebook so the whole social media thing is somewhat a mystery, but it was more than an eye opener to see the types of people that really do exist.

Good Emporer of Dune. Was Tanya one of the Honoured Matres?

Warning: Obsure sci-fi reference shoehorned in.
