Out of interest, does anyone have any stats on DS and it’s traffic now compared to.. say about, five years ago? I can’t remember who said it and it must have been a fair few pages back now but someone mentioned DS is probably busier than Tattle. I didn’t give it much thought at the time but thinking about it now, I’m not sure if that is true. Going by the “live” posts constantly updating upon refresh here and seeing the number of registered active users (and then the additional unregistered guests visiting) this site seems a lot busier to me. But i guess it’s hard to tell because DS doesn’t have the same features that show how often threads are updating. a quick glance at their forums main page suggests threads aren’t as active as they are here but there are more sub forums spread out. Hard to say I guess but I’m curious if there’s a way to find out.
I don't have any stats but DS used to be so busy at times, that as soon as you hit submit, the thread would be on the 2nd page. I remember people saying "admin why was the thread removed"

I always thought DS was the bigger site but I'm not so sure. I was pleasantly surprised when I took part in a poll here and saw how many posters had taken part. I don't think I'd seen anywhere near those numbers on DS. Also I think there are quite a few threads here that get to 50 pages very quickly and regularly. Just from what I've noticed since I started posting on Tattle, there does seem to be quite a bit of traffic here.

I for one am posting a lot more on here than on DS these days.

I fully agree, there have been far fewer posts on DS in recent months. GD for example, rarely gets more than 1.4 pages of current posts. Just looking now, the first page still has posts from yesterday and the very early hours of this morning.

@FenellaTheWitch, some of us no longer still have the privilege to post on DS.

my god

posted over 3500 times in just under 2 years

even I quit in 2015 with a shade under 1500
I wouldn't think she is/was a troll with that post sum, but I'm not sure about the contents of those posts.

A very obvious troll must be Tanya1982 - 6000+ posts since June 2020.

I'm sure they don't help themselves by basically making it pretty impossible to join. Their policy of approving accounts is quite silly. If someone new to the forum registers and then has to wait 24 to 48 hours for them to do whatever checks they think are necessary to "protect" their odd little enclave they are quite likely to lose interest anyway.

Is that standard practise now? Pretty sure when I joined many moons ago I literally signed up and started posting immediately. I know most forums have a policy of not being able to post links straight away but never known one where you have to wait to even post.

I tried to join last year.

My Account was created, but then I had to wait until it was approved by a Mod/Admin. Following on from that, I tried to log in a few days later and was told that my details were incorrect.

On the subject of having to wait a certain amount of time before you can post, Pistonheads makes you wait up until a week before you are even given posting privileges.

Yep absolutely standard. Each account has to be approved and you get no posting rights until they do.

Loads of people on Dogs Sleeping have reported problems signing up new accounts after they have been banned, which suggests that DS are also being very naughty in collecting information about users which they shouldn't be (ie. not just a tracking cookie or an IP address (this lie that influencers spread explained here) but something "deep").

Was this the first time you tried to join, or a second time with a different ID? I only ask as years ago FMs managed to sign up with numerous IDs/usernames, but it is no longer easy to do that now, if at all.

Thanks, you have just confirmed what I wondered in my last post. I missed yours to reply at the same time.

First time
Wow! Seems like all forum sites are now making registration much harder than ever before.

What was the final nail in the coffin for you?

Just realising that the showbiz forum I used to love was full of inane balls that was no longer of any interest.
I still post on there regularly so something keeps drawing me back. It's easy to look back on things with rose tinted glasses but I still liked it better several years ago. Not sure what changed.

Who were you on DS? If you don't mind me asking that is (I'm a nosy parker).

Merchant of doom SierraMist returns to the Covid thread after this today

Early signs of a possible increase in the percentage of people testing positive in the South East and South West in the week ending 6 March 2021.

My god he must have nearly burst with excitement when that line came out. 😱🤪🤪

Well, interesting development. I said in another post here on TL that the DS mods watched what was posted here and within an hour of my last post here found this when I went to log in LOL No email, just banned. When the mods read this please feel free to get flucked :)

Won't be the mods it will be the alerters who read this to see if we talk about them.
The ones who have discussions on their account but no discussions to view that means they have reported to a mod.

Wow. That is a development @neo_wales.

Did you have the same user name over at DS?
If @neo_wales does, than I wouldn't be surprised if walterwhite is behind this banning.

This is such a misconception that has been bandied about in the last few months and I blame Jason for starting it - twice. Both times the threads were deleted.

There are many reasons to report a post to the mods/support, not just trying to get another FM banned.

It's not a misconception if someone has 533 unviewable discussions they are not asking the mods over for afternoon tea.

What’s the misconception? When someone reports a post to a mod it makes their thread count go up. That’s true.

Also, I can’t think of any real reasons to report a post other than finding it offensive. The trouble is, finding a middle ground between something that a collective group would agree is genuinely offensive and should not be allowed and something that a fringe minority personally finds offensive should be fairly easy yet DS seems to have lost grasp of it.
