Alex responded to my messages. He said his Dad died last week and he's been by himself, not wanting to talk.

I apologised and said he should have told me.

I'm taking a step back because either way he didn't tell me and I jumped to thinking the worst and letting my insecurities get the better so it says it all about us. I have had a cry though. What a nasty witch I am.
Did his Dad die?

When it comes to dating apps and people who are seeing others etc.. having someone die becomes too suspicious lol

Aahhh go easy on him babe. Death of a parent is MASSIVE! Don’t write him off just yet. How old are yo if you don’t mind me asking?

Nooooo you are not a nasty witch.
His father dying was the absolute worst case scenario and it is very seldom the reason for silence. You weren't to know.

Don't be too hard on yourself. If you two were close he could have confided in you ❤

I did hear back off him! I think I mentioned I thought he was married so I said (as a test) next time I’ll come over you way...he said there wasn’t anywhere to go. In Stratford on Avon 😆😆🙈🙈case closed 🤷‍♀️🤣xx

I would much prefer to meet someone like that in real life! You are attracted to people you would otherwise discount I think aren’t you? Xx

I did yes...it was so awkward and not natural too 🙈🙈
Does Gareth think you're stupid?! Nowhere to go in a tourist place?! You're well rid and yes he was definitely married!

Yes it seems a nicer way to meet people by chance and not on a dating site. Often a friend of a friend or someone at work etc but the trouble is when you get older that your age group of men all seem to be married (or pretending they're not!) or living with someone.

I believe him. I'd hate to think somebody could lie like that.

Now my messages read very snappy and childish. The previous poster was right about not sending these type of messages. I should have put an are you okay or something. My insecurities got the better of me. 🙁

You said the dad died last week, was it the week before that you messaged him to rearrange your meeting up ?

Tbh both of mine are dead..... however I had 0 contact with my "Dad" so I could have used his passing as a splendid ghosting excuse back when he snuffed it 🤣

Oh I'm so jaded by the excuses lol and I've literally been through it. I was 28 by time I was "orphaned" mind but I wouldn't kill them off again

Sadly people do lie about it.... we've seen it so many times from saying relatives have died or had something serious like a stroke and its been an excuse for them to fade away.

I'd hate to think people would lie about it but they do.... lol

I’m suspicious of people dying too.. If that makes me a witch then so be it.

Aside from his dad dying he still made very little effort to meet up and he was happy to tell you he was seeing other people.

This happened to a friend of mine and she was really annoyed her boyfriend (long distance relationship) didn't get in touch when his mother died (he ignored a few of her messages). She didn't appreciate what he was going through and so they split up over it but myself and her other friends all thought she had been too harsh with him.

Having lost a parent I can say what an awful experience it is and you are just frozen in grief. His Dad can't have been that old and it sounds like it was maybe sudden which is even worse when you don't have time to prepare yourself for it.

However, don't be too harsh on yourself with your messages. It can feel hurtful that he didn't tell you when you were close.

Yes, the dad dying is just an unfortunate part of this story.
I have lost people close to me in the past, but I was able to send a quick message to the people I was in contact with.

I do find though men are crap at coping in situations like grief. Women are far stronger.

Hence my suspicions of the story....

The rest of the build up just doesn't give me good vibes lol seems more like a keeping hanging on as a backup..

i know Everyone reacts differently to parents dying - I found messaging all and sundry quite helpful (by that I mean those closer to me tbh and as I was mums carer I certainly wasn't dating lol)

I dunno. If my dad was to suddenly die, I would be incapable of texting a date or even friends. I’d just hunker down with family whilst getting through the shock.

I’ve decided to sack off the Sunday fuckbuddy bloke. He hasn’t made hardly any attempt to keep in touch. Also, he didn’t go down on me, even though I gave him a BJ. That’s a red flag yeah?

That would be a green flag for me 🤣

I get the initial grief part, but a few days later you'd start to reach out to people.

He’s being selfish but the red flag is him coming over at 1am.

I agree with you all. I do believe him but he could have text me to say and that he needed time alone. I wouldn't have bothered him and would have respected his wishes.

I don't want to make it all about me and should let it go but it's not acceptable.

But I am just going on the fact that, if it were me, I know I would have messaged him and not let him think that I didn't care and didn't want to see him.
