He has normal, but dull, adult son and daughter. The son only speaks in monosyllables, which isn't great on YouTube. Same as Danny Baker's son Sonny. He co-hosted a radio show saying Yes and No for 2 hours. A London thing?
Whilst I agree the son makes no effort to entertain the viewers on blogs (not really his place to do so) he is actually very successful and a bit of a go getter, hence why he is in a senior role and is being moved with his firm to offices over in the states.
Personally my take on DJ is this…
He was probably on 5k subs before he met MM and wouldn’t have had anywhere near the same level of success without the MM. When MM used him up and spat him out I felt sorry for him but over time DJ has begun to grain on me for the following reasons;
• He makes zero efforts in all his videos he does just enough to get his money. He rarely interacts with anyone else on camera to make the content more varied. You don’t see him go out his comfort zone he just films the bare minimum with no back story and little research and it shows.
• His editing, my word, the stuff of legend, compulsive viewing in its own right. The fade to black mid episode for 3 minutes where no-one knows what is going on. Mid episode Darren is talking and no sound comes out because he dubbed himself. The inappropriate creepy music, he could be eating a fry up but has some weird music befitting of a gothic horror in the background. He has no idea how to deal with copy right music or is too lazy to ask a bar owner etc to turn the music down so instead we have a video ruined where we can’t hear him talk because his pilled loud pretentious music on top.
•Poor choice of channel names empty chairs and empty tables, what was wrong with DJ’s food audits?
•Some of the web-toed troglodytes he attracts in the comments, some of the views they hold disgust me.
•His repetitive vocabulary, you can guarantee whenever he eats meat he will say “the meat was so tender”. Who can forget when he was in NYC reviewing the banana milkshake… “the milkshake tastes like bananas”, riveting stuff Darren John.
•Silly catch phrases, how u doing and now he seems to have dumped “off the charts”.
• The poor choices he makes, mistake after mistake, on holiday missing flights getting ripped off, wasting money on business class flights (although the latter I can forgive because if he works and earns well its his money I guess)
He owns no property by his own admission due to living the high life, moving back to margate is beneath him. I just find it really grotty the whole old
large white men shopping for sleazy desperate, poor, Thai Women but hey that’s just me!
