loving all the Bella Coco mentions as I went to School with her. I've not done any myself but my Mum made me a Waffle Blanket from her pattern.
I've not done much crafting lately just 3 cards but I want to do more. I've a cross stitch baby sampler that needs finishing as baby is now one.
And I want to get back Diamond Painting as I keep seeing designs on Temu, though made it a rule that i'm not buying any til i've finished at least 5

How are we getting on with our early spring/late winter craft projects?

I currently have 36 granny squares which are completed and joined together, and around 10 more that need finishing off before joining.

I have enjoyed this project a lot, but i am at the stage when I want it to be nearly done and it isn't anywhere close. I think it is because it looked like lots of squares when stacked on the blocking board, but it didn't look ' big' once I had actually put them together.

I am going to work on finishing up a shawl for next few days, to give myself a little break before getting back to the squares. It is nice not to be weaving in ends all the time.

I hope to finish a hood/scarf thing (knitted) which I hope to wear this weekend for a nice long walk before true Spring weather comes. It's taken me too long to make and the season it is intended for is almost done

Funnily enough I've just started crocheting again after chatting with my neighbour who's started learning and showed me a you tube video she'd seen.

I've never been able to remember how to do the stitches and how to work in a round but it seems to have clicked this time. I got a book last year with crochet flower patterns in so I've made a hydrangea and a peony so far!

I like ' Hooked by Robin' for tutorials. I think you just have to try and few and find the one that works best for you.

@pixxyy your waffle blanket is beautiful, love the colours too. My sister has made us crochet blankets for home - not the granny squares, but a continual square - they are warm but light.

I found a company called Craft Buddy - have bought from them but also had some good finds through Vinted. I really must get my cross stitching completed.

I'd definitely recommend Bella Coco for crochet tutorials - I tried for years and couldn't get the hang of it until I tried her videos.

I'm about to start a granny square blanket that I've found a pattern for, but I'm feeling a bit discouraged as I keep having to look up various stitches to clarify exactly what they are. I know I can do a double, treble, half treble, but if I tried to show you I couldn't guarantee I'd be doing the one I told you I was!

Do you turn your square at the start of each round?
I started doing this after a Blossom Crochet tutorial and its a game changer. So much neater and it doesn't "twist".

Does anyone make their own clothes here?

I'd love to try and make some clothes for my toddler, I got a nice sewing machine for Christmas and so far have made the front of a quilt (tiny, made it completely the wrong size, it's wonky and I hate it so haven't put it on any padding or backing yet) and a Happy Birthday bunting banner. I just have no idea where to start :/

Your local parks and recreation or community college should have classes.

That is a good idea. Look for clases in local area. There are probably some youtube channels dedicated to teaching beginners.

Please don't give up. There is no obligation to be good at a hobby or craft, just enjoy the process and the skill develops over time x

I have taken a break from my granny square project as I felt like I wanted to make something big.

I am making the Attic 24 Sungold blanket as I was gifted the yarn pack at Christmas. Usually the pack has a printed pattern, but this one was originally a CAL with a section released every week for 8 weeks. I had a quick look and my brain did this maths..... 15 colours = 15 stripes a week = easy breezy. Decided to try and do it in 8 weeks.

However....

Each stripe is actually made of 2 rows, so it is 30 stripes a week. Week 1 I was completely rows late into the night of day 7 to try and stick to my goal. I decided to do better on week 2...

Well it is week 2. I have 2 days left to complete this weeks section and I have 20 rows left. When will I ever learn?

Tilly and the buttons is very good for beginner sewers. Very clear instructions. She has a book of children’s patterns. You download the patterns using the ISBN number of the book. The patterns are mini versions of her adult patterns.

Ugh I'm so annoyed. I'm trying to make a garland that consists of a lot of flat-ish discs and even though I'm following the pattern, it just comes out round rather than almost flat. Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Ha sorry thought I'd said! Yes crochet. I'm using a 4mm hook so assumed that would be big enough :/ I'll try a 4.5 and see how that goes.

I know that sometimes squares will curl up if you’re not using a big enough hook so I think it should work, hopefully.

Thanks for the suggestion! It hasn't particularly helped the curling but it does look better on the big hook so at least there's that
