i dont get on with holding the yarn full stop. all the winding around your fingers on your other hand etc . i find it cumbersome and not much use, rarely stays in place and its too distracting to keep putting it back on my left hand. i hope this doesnt cause many problemsHow do people keep themselves going with crafts? I got Disney crochet in the hopes it would inspire me to really get into it, am 90 magazines in an so far have done one square for my blanketI don't know why I can't just seem to get into it when I actually really want too
I also am finding it difficult to be comfortable with my hands if I crochet, I get cramps soon into it, am sorta of just holding the yarn with it going up an over my index finger, is there a better way?

I've not had the brain space to craft this past few Months but i've just restarted my Parrot Cross stitch, Its Bothy Threads Menagerie series so very bright fabric.
Blanket? I don’t think it sounds naff at all. Id rather have a beautiful handmade gift than a toaster.
That sounds like a lovely idea. If they have specific ' wedding colours' you could incorporate them into the blanket.
If you are good at soft toys, you could make small versions of the couple.
A crochet bunch of flowers or a flower wreath could fit the theme as well.

Blanket in wedding colours with the date crocheted into it?
Blankets make lovely gifts, I've done a few as wedding presents. There are some patterns with "wedding themes" entwined rings etc, wedding colours are good and I've done a couple that where temperature blanket for the year they met (one with the day they met in sparkly wool) xx
My best friend loves the 70s, saw one of her little one's friends in a crochet cardigan and asked for me to make one.

Thank you! It's Stylecraft Special DK, I use it for everything that will get used and need to be washed as it washes well. Not naff at all! I’ve seen some amazing plants & flowers, but disclaimer I can’t crochet so have no idea how much of a nightmare that may be 🫣
I loveeee this brand so much!
I brought colour pegs from Etsy of every colour, so I can swap and play with palettes before buying the yarn.
My idea behind it was, I’d be buying less yarn because I can pick the exact colours I want together. (It didn’t work but the thought was there right?!)
I should really make some of my own, I've probably had at least half the colours, but I just buy them at random now, you can't really go wrong can you
.I've just finished 175 pieces for a blanket that started with "leftover" colours but of course I've had to buy more...

You could do one in a heavier weight yarn, make it a bit quicker? I really like Stylecraft. It is soft, has lots of nice colours, hard wearing and well priced. I have purchased a lot of 'budget yarn' and Stylecraft is around the same price and much better
I do see lots of people online who claim to only buy ' ethically produced' hand dyed and washed in nuns tears indie yarn from Etsy. All the better if it is from a women/LGBT/BAME owned business...
....And I honestly don't know how they afford their hobby, unless they only ever make small items. I have seen this stuff priced at 20 quid for 200 grams. It looks like but I can not afford to make a blanket out of it.
They are often so snotty to people who can't afford to buy this stuff regularly as well. I saw a bunch of people on reddit having a hissy fit over people buying yarn from Hobbi as they didn't like the company that owned it, and acting like anyone who bought from them is literally evil.
My point being, people need to stop being snobs and appreciate that other people can't always afford what they have.

I agree totally. I mostly make blankets that will be used and need to be washed so I don't really have an issue using acrylic. If I was making some sort of heirloom I'd love to use fancy yarn but like you say, it's so expensive and only affordable for smaller projects. I don't believe for one minute half these people are only using ethically produced natural fibres unless they're all millionaires.
Anything that kids are going to have their hands on especially needs to be hard wearing and something that won't shrink and felt in the wash. Cotton yarn can be a bit more affordable but it's heavy and probably not particularly environmentally friendly to produce anyway.
I’m not a fan of Aldi selling yarn personally as I’ve seen people run out and I’d rather support a local yarn shop (or even an online yarn shop) and be able to buy more if I need it but all yarn has its place at the end of the day. I’d rather use Stylecraft for a blanket and be able to wash it easily.
I will use hand dyed too as I mostly make small things but I’m quite fussy who I buy from as I’ve had some horrors in the past.
