I see fecking 10 year old kids sat in the food part of the trolley and think it is DISGUSTING. No wonder kids are more overweight these days if they can't even walk around a supermarket. I see it multiple times everytime I go grocery shopping.
Normally on some sort of device too, right? 🙄

I've seen kids sneezing over the unwrapped bread, many parents don't even seem that bothered by it 🤯 . Waitrose is the worst for this in my experience.

I wouldn’t say I’m anxious, more concerned. My dad is 80 and has heart and kidney problems and has to go to hospital 3 times a week for dialysis. He had pneumonia last year and was in hospital for 2 months so this would probably finish him.
My husband has heart disease so I would be concerned if he caught it.
Not concerned for myself.
I do think the media will be the cause of food shortages because of their “empty shelves” reporting. I’ve been shopping today and all was normal, except for no anti-bac hand sanitiser.
If you look at the articles of the ‘OMG empty shelves!’ It’s not food, just antibacterial gel.
I was so anxious last week however can I ask what is worrying everyone so much?
I'm no longer worried about catching it as myself my daughter and husband have no health conditions so am confident that we would recover.
My parents are in their 50s and in good health so not worried about them.

Are most of you so anxious because you or your family members would be at risk?
Mine is because my dad is 70 and has diabetes. It’s low risk diabetes and he is washing his hands, being careful and he generally only goes out to get the paper each day, but after losing my Mum a few years ago, I can’t deal with the thought of being 35 and parent less. But I’m trying to focus on the positive stories. The man who is writing articles from quarantine saying he feels fine, the 90+ year old lady who has just been let out of hospital in China. I will have a nervous breakdown if I don’t focus on those stories :)

Oh dear, please stop panicking, that is the worst thing anyone can do in these situations. Panicking helps nobody and causes extra harm due to stress, panic buying when it's not necessary and general anxiety all round. Also, panicking causes people to overlook the obvious because they're too focussed on other things. I've seen a lot of people saying they're cleaning the handles on shopping trolleys, letterboxes etc. I wonder how many of those same people clean the one item they use (more than likely) multiple times a day - an item that gets put down anywhere and everywhere and comes into direct contact with their face every time they use it (the face that is the entry point for viral and bacterial infections)? I'm talking about their mobile phones which are a breeding ground for microbes if not cleaned regularly. Anyone who doesn't already regularly clean their phone ought to read this article https://eu.usatoday.com/story/tech/...obably-disgusting-heres-how-clean/2950106002/

Just stay calm and level headed, panic is just as much a problem as the virus itself.

I am starting to worry now, i'm 34 weeks pregnant and still commuting everyday. I assume being pregnant I'm more susceptible to this like normal flu?
This is my worry. I’m 38 weeks and I just want him out and at home safe with me although I know he’s probably safer inside me at the minute

My son has severe Brittle asthma, he's 6 and he is still classed as unmanaged. He spends quite a lot of time in hospital as it is, and is classed as disabled because a simple cold can be life threatening and lead to him being in ressuss and hcu needing introvenus treatment. With this being a respiratory disease I'm really worried. I've stocked up my freezer and cuboards for two reasons. 1- If it does start to spread close by me I would keep him from school and self isolate to try and prevent him from catching it. 2- I think people will panic buy so would rather be prepared.
I really don't think people need to worry yet and I do think the media magnify things. They just keep saying if your fit and well you will be fine (which I agree with, most people who catch it will be fine) I just worry for the people like my son who would struggle to fight it. I also want to know what's put in place for those with respitary problems. my gp surgery doesn't really deal with my sons condition the hospital do, who are amazing, but my gp surgery are pretty awful. There seems to be no information available and I think they should be prioritising the vulnerable.

I’ve cleaned my phone! And my car keys and I’ll do it everyday.

You keep posting and make it sound like your superior and try to belittle people that have genuine concerns over a novel virus that experts in virology are very worried about. It's common sense your phone is the worst place and that's what everyone i know is cleaning the most after their hands. People buying a bit extra isn't panic buying, it makes sense now to do it and spread it out. If somewhere goes into lock down that is when shops will be stripped and it's helpful that some people are stocking up before a potential rush!

I don't get this "don't go to the doctor's " but self isolate for 2 weeks advice ,
What if you've got it ? You could be dead in 2 weeks without treatment 🤷

self isolate if you've been to a high risk area (or a member of your house has), then if symptoms start phone 111 to get tested. hope that helps

Shame it's not as easy for people with anxiety to just stop panicking.

👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Finally! Somebody agrees with me. I cringe when I see grubby children sat in the actual trolley with their shoes on and fingers god knows where. There are seats in the trolley for a reason, so control yourself and your child.
Not always easy when you have twins and the shop has 1 or none of the 2 toddler seat trollies. So sometimes needs must. Also not all children are grubby

its making me ill :(
😔 With being an anxiety sufferer myself, I can fully understand that. In the past I've made myself ill through worrying about health. There's no easy fix for anxiety, it's not something you can just switch off.

I think I will run into this problem once mine are trolley sitting age
It's a dose. The only shops that consistently have double seat trollies near me are Aldi and Lidl. Our local shop has 2 of these trollies and neither are in the main carpark. Meaning you have to drag two smallies around looking for them. Not always possible. Good to know people assume I have my two sitting in the trolley cause I can't control them 🙄

I am not posting anything like as much as some people are, neither am I trying to sound superior or belittling, I'm just trying to remain measured and calm. As I have mentioned previously I work in the NHS (no, I'm not a doctor's receptionist, despite what you may like to believe!) and I am surrounded by highly qualified healthcare professionals. The people I work with are doctors, nurses, mental health specialists etc and the advice they give is to stay calm and not worry unduly. In other words, don't panic and maintain a sense of perspective.

It is one thing if they are little toddlers but it is when I see kids that are 5+ sat in the food part that I side-eye.

That’s for the number of people tested though, not who have it. Almost all of those people were negative. A better graph to share (and not panic people) would have been the number of confirmed cases overlaid against the number of people who have recovered (although, I don’t think that graph exists unfortunately). The one above doesn’t really tell us anything - all 13k people could have been negative for all that shows (or positive for that matter).
