Yes I saw this, this morning.

From an nhs colleague:
We have just been sent a medical alert that no one is to use anti inflammatories (eg I brufen, Voltarol, naproxen and there are others) for pain or high temperature. Use paracetamol instead. There seems to be a link between severe cases of covid19 affecting young people with no underlying illnesses and taking anti inflammatories. Initial reports started coming from French Drs on Friday. This has been confirmed by infectious diseases consultants here - there are 4 young people in ICU in Cork who have no underlying illnesses - all were taking anti inflammatories and there are concerns this has caused a more severe illness. We have been asked to spread the message. French tv and radio apparently broadcast the same warning today..
From John Greenwood’s niece...Consultant Pediatrician in London.
Pls pass on.
I could 100% be reading this wrong but, I’m trying to think with a little optimism but... maybe it’s not the ibuprofen in people’s system that’s the cause of it being worse in “healthy” people. Maybe they’re undiagnosed people, taking ibuprofen for illness’s which make them vulnerable, or even just side effects of this virus that most people with the virus would be I assume, headaches, sore throats etc. Meaning the ibuprofen in their system could just be an unrelated correlation instead of causation of fatality’s?

I feel you about the unsupported part-my husband and I are really clashing at the minute because he can’t understand why I am being so anxious about the whole thing-he doesn’t give a tit and is being very matter of fact about the whole thing. I must admit I do catastrophise in my head a bit so I’m down the line of him losing his job,not seeing my mum or granny for months, having my baby in September alone in hospital etc,but his blase attitude is making me resentful and we have been arguing about it a lot-I dread if there is a lockdown because our relationship willdefinitely be affected (I’m sure I’m not the only one in that situation)
Same here. My husband says he is looking forward to the school closing (he’s a teacher) so he can play golf everyday 🙄 He also said that they were still shaking hands etc when they played at the weekend 😡

Summary of Goldman Sachs Investor call...

where 1,500 companies dialed in. The key economic takeaways were:

50% of Americans will contract the virus (150m people) as it's very communicable. This is on a par with the common cold (Rhinovirus) of which there are about 200 strains and which the majority of Americans will get 2-4 per year.

70% of Germany will contract it (58M people). This is the next most relevant industrial economy to be affected.

Peak-virus is expected over the next eight weeks, declining thereafter.

The virus appears to be concentrated in a band between 30-50 degrees north latitude, meaning that like the common cold and flu, it prefers cold weather. The coming summer in the northern hemisphere should help. This is to say that the virus is likely seasonal.

Of those impacted 80% will be early-stage, 15% mid-stage and 5% critical-stage. Early-stage symptoms are like the common cold and mid-stage symptoms are like the flu; these are stay at home for two weeks and rest. 5% will be critical and highly weighted towards the elderly.

Mortality rate on average of up to 2%, heavily weight towards the elderly and immunocompromised; meaning up to 3m people (150m*.02). In the US about 3m/yr die mostly due to old age and disease, those two being highly correlated (as a percent very few from accidents). There will be significant overlap, so this does not mean 3m new deaths from the virus, it means elderly people dying sooner due to respiratory issues. This may however stress the healthcare system.

There is a debate as to how to address the virus pre-vaccine. The US is tending towards quarantine. The UK is tending towards allowing it to spread so that the population can develop a natural immunity. Quarantine is likely to be ineffective and result in significant economic damage but will slow the rate of transmission giving the healthcare system more time to deal with the case load.

China’s economy has been largely impacted which has affected raw materials and the global supply chain. It may take up to six months for it to recover.

Global GDP growth rate will be the lowest in 30 years at around 2%.

S&P 500 will see a negative growth rate of -15% to -20% for 2020 overall.

There will be economic damage from the virus itself, but the real damage is driven mostly by market psychology. Viruses have been with us forever. Stock markets should fully recover in the 2nd half of the year.

In the past week there has been a conflating of the impact of the virus with the developing oil price war between KSA and Russia. While reduced energy prices are generally good for industrial economies, the US is now a large energy exporter, so there has been a negative impact on the valuation of the domestic energy sector. This will continue for some time as the Russians are attempting to economically squeeze the American shale producers and the Saudi’s are caught in the middle and do not want to further cede market share to Russia or the US.

Technically the market generally has been looking for a reason to reset after the longest bull market in history.

There is NO systemic risk. No one is even talking about that. Governments are intervening in the markets to stabilize them, and the private banking sector is very well capitalized. It feels more like 9/11 than it does like 2008.

Hi, my friend works for PHE in infectious diseases, she put a status out last night saying that anti-inflammatory medicines make CV worse and to not take them

Why would people be taking ibuprofen? If it doesn't help and there is even a small chance it could make it worse why do it?

We have Hoseasons break booked for the first week of the Easter holidays here in the UK. They are offering for you to exchange your holiday for another date in the coming 12 months but they are not offering refunds/cancellations. also it only applies if your holiday is due to start on or before 2nd of May. We plan on trying to re-book for Easter 2021.

My employer still haven’t said anything about changing to working from home. We work in an office and it wouldn’t even be difficult to change this. It is absolute madness.

I think this stance will change. This has come anecdotally from the sheer amount of cases in France. Inflammation is needed to fight infection as it increases the amount white blood cells released into the blood stream.. You don’t have to believe me but evidence is ever changing with this so I wouldn’t be surprised if it will be mentioned in today’s press conference

Trying to explain to family that self isolating will be a little bit harder for me because I stay alone and wouldn't have any human contact but they all live with someone or still together but apparently they don't understand

I’ve heard to only take paracetamol for this, but not heard about people who died having ibuprofen in their systems. The 60 year old GP who recovered only took paracetamol according to what she wrote in the Mail online.
