This is going to sound a bit bonkers, but has the tattler who went to SA for Xmas been on here recently? I hope she’s okay. I’ve not seen any comments from her for a while.
She’s around! I think she had a name change but she made it back 😊

Edit: just realised that’s made it sound like I’m her, I’ve just seen her posting in other threads (and here I’m sure) 😂

Going back to the chat about hospital figures, in Scotland we get a separate figure for patients in hospital with Covid, and patients being treated in ICU with Covid. I would assume most of your “came in for something else but tested positive for Covid on admission” cases would be included in the main hospital figure, but not in the separate icu figure which I would think is patients whose main reason for being in hospital is fighting Covid. Do you not get a separate ICU count in England?

NI get a breakdown of patients too.

This is from gov.uk is England's bed broken down by ICU and non-ICU

I think its more the fact that Joe with a broken leg but a positive test is counted as a covid admission that is a bug bear.

Edited to add: and that the media make out that every admission is someone on deaths door with covid

I’m so glad you’ve asked this as I’ve been so confused by some of the posts here.

Sadly I don’t think Joe with the broken leg is accounting for the steep U on that chart 😕

Is anyone else seriously losing social skills? I just had a phonecall with my friend, and it was so awkward - kept interrupting each other and I really didn’t have anything interesting to talk about. I feel like a socially awkward teenager again. I’m not even that isolated, I still go to work and mix with people but not many people my age or similar to me... so I’m out of practice. Give me an 85 year old to chat to and I’m fine 😂

But is it not the case that many patients admitted with Covid do end up in ICU as the disease progresses .I'm sure once Joe has seen out his isolation (symptom free) period in hospital he would be discharged again and wouldn't show on the increasing hospital data ?

Older people are lucky in that sense, as they have managed to do so much already. lol.
I just saw this - bugger off, I am old and have not manged enough yet and have stills lots to do and it might get me soon.♥ We should have been in Spain in Sept/Oct. Goa in India from mid October to 26th Dec. German New Year river cruise from 29th Dec to 5th Jan. A week in York in Jan - then off to Vietnam for TET for 3 months.
Honestly we are mid 70's and this is the first winter we have spent in UK for 20 odd years and it is awful. We are used to being out walking all day in the sunshine but instead we are stuck indoors as I hate the cold, not sleeping well and absolutely pissed off with life.

I am sorry you never got to go on your travels. You are right, no matter our age, we all have things we were looking forward to and are struggling with.

Yes. I try to talk to my mom and a friend once a week as that's what I've always done pre-covid. Since we're all at home though there isn't much to talk about because no one is doing anything. The conversations are usually short or are just a re-hash of what we've been watching on the streaming services. Now we've gotten to the point where we haven't found anything new to watch :ROFLMAO: I'm finding we just go around in circles and end up asking the same questions each time but trying to word it in different ways. I do miss the ease of conversations and the spontaneous, but always a laugh, phone calls from friends.

Ha. My video calls with my mum are the same. We started spacing them out more so there is "more" to talk about.

I'm not surprised you're pissed off. Life is so difficult for everyone. So, some young ones haven't lived yet and are pissed off they are missing out, single people are missing out, people who want to start a family are missing out, those that had children early and have been desperately waiting until retirement to have the freedom to do all the things they always wanted to do, those that brought children up, then were immediately thrown into caring for an elderly relative...

I think what I'm trying to say is that everyone is affected in one way or another. Everyone is missing out on something and it's tit. Really tit.

*I'm not suggesting you were claiming to be the only one affected, just to clarify. More a I understand and isn't it crap kind of vibe.

I had an appointment at a breast clinic at the hospital. It went well and the specialists were in PPE, we were distancing, etc. But the waiting area was horrendous! There were two other ladies there, and both of them kept removing their masks, and there was no nurse or receptionist to tell them off. One of them coughed several times as well. For all I know it was just a cough, but it didn’t make me feel any better. So it could be Joes that wouldn’t have caught it if it wasn’t for other possibly irresponsible patients and outpatients.
