Just been catching up with the thread, dont think its moved this much in weeks!

Was really strange seeing the press conf on tv again today, text my mum and said it feels like weve gone back 3 months again šŸ™„

I myself am way more relaxed than I was at the start of all this and have started seeing family and going to shops etc way more but looking back, it honestly feels like I have been through some kind of trauma. The fear I had at the start (I made myself physically unwell for about 3 weeks at the start) and missing my family was just horrendous. I cant talk about how I felt during lockdown without crying.
Its badly affected my partners mental health (hes always suffered but managed to keep in under control but the past month has been tough!) Its not about corona but think the stress, worry and fear has sparked it off again!

2020 has just been tit. Theres no other way to describe it and in my eyes 2021 is gonna be more of the same ā˜¹ (apologies for been a debbie downer)

I was shocked at how bad the numbers of cases and deaths had got in the UK when they FINALLY decided to lockdown.. it should have happened earlier.
Iā€™m not sure how true this is, but I did read (possibly on here) that the reason the country didnā€™t go into lockdown earlier was that Borisā€™ fiancĆ©e had already arranged her baby shower at Chequers and an earlier lockdown would have meant that it would have had to be cancelled šŸ¤”

Begrudgingly took me and the family for covid tests today coz my bestie tested positive and we were all out together being as careful as you can at McDonald's two days before.:cautious: We all have colds and headaches and a high temperature. Wasn't worried but not the other half has a bad cough, can't smell ought or taste ought. No word of a lie I'm now totally bricking it. No sleep for me now šŸ˜ØšŸ˜ŸšŸ˜

I couldnā€™t smell anything either but my nose has been so blocked itā€™s no doubt because of that but I also had the temp and cough too so all three symptoms. Try and not worry. There is also so much going about too! Hope you manage to get some sleep itā€™s not nice worrying all the time :(

This face covering wearing is absolute rubbish. If masks work then why are cases spiking again? All a load šŸ’© No point in wearing them at all!

People obviously arenā€™t wearing masks when they are socialising when their friends and family though, not sure you can really blame masks on the rise. The majority of people I know arenā€™t social distancing from close friends or family any more, they are back to hugging etc.

Good for them to be honest. I think this is an each to their own situation. We can't be controlled forever. Do what makes you happy and not worry about what other people are doing.

Iā€™m not worrying about what anyone else is doing, just pointing out marks are hardly to blame for a rise.

The masks work. I think the problem is we have all been sitting at tables in pubs and restaurants with friends we haven't seen in months and not wearing them.

Iā€™m looking at it like if we go to see our in laws for a meal after the kids are in bed, and donā€™t see them (theyā€™re upstairs the whole time), then I donā€™t think they count as itā€™s not like we will have contact with them or even be in the same room šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I think also wasnā€™t it meant to be a max of two households sat at same table in a pub or restaurant... Iā€™m pretty sure a lot of people havenā€™t been following that

Update here child 2 made swift recovery just dident want to go to school she missed 1 day with the sniffles no temp or cough but odd a fww same class all have colds.

Child 1 been back at senior school 3 days and is shattered but seens happy with new arrangements and bus she takes fairly quiet so maybe local businesses ignore Boris must work from office i know the local council are.

2 schools in my city had cases yesterday so just 1 primary class at off 14days. Secondary other side of the city whole of year 7.

Local press day out break in the range and the company being tit not even deep cleaning and threatening staff disiplinary and some walked out as they dont feel safe.

I feel super Markets major issue.
It was costing food retailers money on extra wages carefully manage the door and the tillls which uswd to be like complicated maze in Tesco and Morrisons.
Now no limits..masks optional and just optional hand sanister everywhere.
I feel much less safe food shopping these days.

Really dubious about universities return.

So if i go see dad wales im not breaking the law but if he comes over with his wife we breaking the law as over a 6 as we a family of 6.
One bonus is last few weeks allowed son play with kids in our street in the garden.
Theres 4 kids 2 siblings next door. 1 child opposite whos more my daughters freind and 1 child nearby who has behaviour issues.
Now told them yesterday they can only play 1 child at a time when husbands at work and only 2 households can mix at any 1 time.
Its the law and what boris said.
Will give me well deserved break from the naughty loud child.

Blimey the journos meant to be well educated yet they ask such stupid questions.
Peston dont ask about brexit and bang on about john major stick to the point.
Cancelling xmas nice soundbite.

Am i the only one who can remember the sort of traffic light systems/ levels of alert.
Just like travel air corridors and quarantine these levels and restrictions should be and will be subject to change.
The changes can go either way.
We squeezing the brakes again.
Hand face space has be same every setting.
I loathe term covid safe secure as many schools admitted they not risk free but parents have no choice unless they home educate.
I dont think we doing a great job but taking action before deaths and hospital admissions rise seems sensible as thats pattern if France and Spain and they ahead if us last time.

I am not sure restrictions go far enough tbh.
We should have curfews
Early close pubs and restaurants
I cant believe track and trace details were not mandatory.
Now tourists season coming to close maybe restrict foreign travel.
Lots business retailers pubs salons really strict at beginning.
They have to tackle shops because online cant meet demand of all.

How did china eradicate it. I honestly think i had it but cant get free antibody test.

Anyone else heard Jason Leech saying PCR test is a bit rubbish (direct quote) as it canā€™t differentiate between infectious and non infectious virus and you can shed for 6+ weeks hence positive test does not really equal a positive test .....

How long will this nonsense last. We canā€™t wear masks forever. We canā€™t queue forever. We canā€™t cancel the whole arts industry and be told where we can and canā€™t travel to.

The world needs to get back to normal, albeit with some form of risk, but we need to be responsible for ourselves and make our own decisions.

Just got a negative result for my son (as expected as itā€™s just sniffles/asthma cough that he gets every year) so Iā€™m hoping back to school tomorrow but need to wait to hear back from them.

Hey! I am wondering if anybody could help me. We are due to go to Germany next month and the current travel rules are that if you are from a high risk area you have to take a test on arrival or quarantine for 14 days on arrival. On the list it currently says -

ā€¢ United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ā€“ the following British
Overseas Territory is currently classified as a risk area: o Gibraltar (since 26 August)

Does this just mean people travelling from Gibraltar need to quarantine or, people from the UK too?

I canā€™t make it out. Thank you!
It's only people from gilbraltar currently however that could change at any time

Kids (and people in general) will now be getting bugs and sniffles because theyā€™ve been in hiding or in small bubbles for half a year, mixing again will throw a lot of peopleā€™s immune systems for a loop along with the change in season. Of course schools going back was going to see a rise, along with people returning from abroad and frankly nobody enforcing any kind of quarantines.

That said I think this shows that the COVID safe way of doing things hasnā€™t been followed strictly and thatā€™s what the government should focus on - there is far less hand washing and social distancing going on. People are out and about every day with different people for the sake of it. Nowhere enforced the rules about only two households gathering etc. British people just donā€™t like following rules or being told what to do / changing habits, our society just isnā€™t collaborative and after months of being locked down, people who are generally well and healthy just want to do what they want to do.

A huge huge majority of people are asymptomatic, of those who have symptoms, most are mild, and of the few hospitalisation cases again most arenā€™t dying. Young people are mixing, being exposed to the virus and testing positive but not dying and thatā€™s what matters. We have the flu every year, in bad years why arenā€™t we asked to socially distance and wear masks and hand wash to protect the vulnerable? We have a flu jab and thousands still die. I believe people who are extra vulnerable should take extra precautions the same way they might do during a normal flu season but that the rest of the country should be allowed to get back to some level of normality. I believe herd immunity is important and we are some way to getting it but we need to realise this virus might just be something we live with and unfortunately itā€™s something, like flu, that can kill the vulnerable. Itā€™s terribly sad but itā€™s a fact of life and one we seemingly manage to ignore every other year. I know people who will still go to work or socialise ā€œoh itā€™s only a sniffleā€ and spread germs happily and knowingly with the same potential outcome if youā€™ve got elderly or vulnerable relatives. My grandparents are miserable, depressed and feel as if theyā€™ve a death sentence hanging over them which is just no way to live because youā€™re old.

The tests have an astonishingly high percentage of false positive readings (current testing numbers estimate 500-700 a day could be false positive). We are doing targeted testing which also could account for the high positives. As long as deaths stay low (and theyā€™re far lower than cancers, flu, suicide, etc) then letā€™s get back to normal with a good lashing of sensibility and hygiene Our mainstream media And even government are scaremongering.
Iā€™m so, so over it now. My husband reads the cases etc but for the most part Iā€™m avoiding all coverage of it as much as I can. First time Iā€™ve read this thread for weeks and I feel like my head is going to fall off again!
